E. Install Checklist
Appliance Install
Appliance is leveled and connector is secured to appliance.Hearth extension size/height decided. Outside air kit installed.Floor protection requirements have been met.If appliance is connected to a masonry chimney, it should be cleaned and inspected by a professional. If installed to a factory built metal chimney, the chimney must be installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions and clearances.

B. Avoiding Smoke and Odors
Negative Pressure, Shut-Down and Electrical Power Failure
To reduce the probability of back-drafting or burn-back inthepelletapplianceduringpowerfailureorshutdowncon-ditions, it must be able to draft naturally without exhaustbloweroperation.Negativepressureinthehousewillresistthisnaturaldraftifnotaccountedforinthepelletapplianceinstallation.
Heatrisesinthehouseandleaksoutatupperlevels.Thisairmustbereplacedwithcoldairfromoutdoorswhichflowsintolowerlevelsofthehouse.Ventsandchimneysintobasementsandlowerlevelsofthehousecanbecome the conduit for air supplyand reverseundertheseconditions.
Outside Air
Anoutsideairkit isrecommended inall installations. TheOutsideAirKitmustbeorderedseparately.Pernationalbuildingcodes,considerationmustbegiventocombustionairsupplytoallcombustionappliances.Failuretosupplyadequatecombustionairforallappliancedemandsmayleadtoback-draftingofthoseandotherappliances.
Whentheapplianceisroofvented(stronglyrecommended): Theairintakeisbestlocatedontheexteriorwallorientedtowardstheprevailingwinddirectionduringtheheatingseason.
Whentheapplianceisside-wallvented:Theairintakeisbestlocatedonthesameexteriorwallastheexhaustventoutletandlocatedloweronthewallthantheexhaustventoutlet.
Theoutsideairsupplykitcansupplymostofthedemandsofthepelletappliance,butconsiderationmustbegiventothetotalhousedemand.Housedemandmayconsumetheairneededfortheappli-ance. Itmaybenecessarytoaddadditionalventilationtothespaceinwhichthepelletapplianceislocated.ConsultwithyourlocalHVACprofessionaltodeterminetheventilationdemandsforyourhouse.
Vent ConfigurationsWheninstallingapelletappliancewithahorizontalventcon-figurationthefrequencyofpoweroutagesshouldbeconsid-ered:
• Poweroutagesduringoperationwillcausetheappliancetoimmediatelyturnoffandmaycreateconditionswheresmokewillbackdraftintothehouse.Inordertoreducethe likelihood of smoke back drafting into the houseduringapoweroutage,HearthandHomeTechnologiesstronglysuggests:
• Installingthepelletventingwithaminimumverticalrunof5feet(1.52m).
• Installing theoutsideairkitat least4 feet (1.22m)belowtheventtermination.
Topreventsootdamagetoexteriorwallsofthehouseandtopreventre-entryofsootorashintothehouse:
• Maintain specified clearances towindows, doors andairinlets,includingairconditioners.
• Vents should not be placed below ventilated soffits.Runtheventabovetheroof.
• Avoidventingintoalcovelocations. • Ventsshouldnotterminateunderoverhangs,decksor
ontocoveredporches. • Maintain minimum clearance of 12 inches (305mm)
from the vent termination to the exteriorwall. If youseedepositsdevelopingonthewall,youmayneedtoextendthisdistancetoaccommodateyourinstallationconditions.

7. Onceyouaresatisfiedwiththepositioning,removetrimandsetaside.
8. Remove the paper from double-sided tape that is toaccepttrimside.Alignsideandthenpresshardagainsttapetosecuresidepiece.Repeatforotherside.Installfronttrimpiecelast.
9. Thereare3holesinthebackflangeofthetoptosecureittothewallifnecessary.Usetheappropriatefastenerforthetypeofwallmaterial,i.e.,brick,sheetrock,etc.

You must use a Quadra-Fire Outside Air Kit for installation in a mobile home.1. Anoutsideairinletmustbeprovidedforthecombustionairand
mustremainclearofleaves,debris,iceand/orsnow.Itmustbeunrestrictedwhiletheapplianceisinusetopreventroomairstarvationwhichcausessmokespillage.Smokespillagecanalsosetoffsmokealarms.
2. Thecombustionairductsystemmustbemadeofmetal. Itmustpermitzeroclearancetocombustibleconstructionandpreventmaterialfromdroppingintotheinletorintotheareabeneaththedwellingandcontainarodentscreen.
3. Theappliancemustbesecuredtothemobilehomestructurebyboltingittothefloor(usinglagbolts).Usethesameholesthatsecuredtheappliancetotheshippingpallet.
