1. Introduction

1.1. Generality

This manual describes the procedure for correctly installing and configuring the RSS10 software.

The RSS10 software suite is composed of:

• RSS10 Server

• RSS10 Client

1.2. Minimum system requirements

For a correct operation, the PC where the RSS10 Server is installed must be configured with one of the following Operating System :

• Windows XP Professional

• Windows 2003

• Windows 2008

• Windows 7

2. RSS10 Installation

In this chapter the procedure to install the RSS10 is described.

2.1. RSS10 Server Installation

Here the procedure to install the RSS10 Server pack is described.

2.1.1. Preliminary steps

• Install and configure the FTP Service as described in the par. 5.2.

• Make sure the graphic card is correctly installed and configured.

• Install and configure a modem.

• Properly configure the firewall as described in par. 5.1.

2.1.2. RSS10 installation

Run the installation package of RSS10 and proceed as described in chapter 3.

2.1.3. Post-installation steps

• Restart the PC.

• Configure the system as described in chapter 4.

2.2. RSS10 Client Installation

Here the procedure to install the RSS10 Client pack is described.

2.2.1. Preliminary steps

• Make sure the graphic card is correctly installed and configured.

2.2.2. RSS10 installation

• Run the installation package of RSS10 and proceed as described in chapter 3.

2.2.3. Post-installation steps

• Restart the PC.

• Configure the system as described in chapter 4.

3. RSS10 Setup In this chapter, the installation of the RSS10 package is described.

Insert the RSS10 installation CD in the CD drive and proceed as follows:

• Click on the RSS10 installation icon.

• The Fig. 3-1 appears. Click Next to continue.

• The Fig. 3-2 asks for the software selection to install: select RSS10-SRV and click Next.

• The following figure shows the installation path: it is possible to select the installation folder for the software RSS10 by clicking on button Browse... (default setting “C:\RSS10\...”). Click Next to continue.

• Through the Fig. 3-4 select the menu start folder (default RSS10) and click Next to continue.

• On the Fig. 3-5 click Install to begin the installation.

• When the installation is complete the Fig. 3-6 appears.

4. RSS10 first post-installation start Once the RSS10 is installed it is necessary to create a new archive and then to make a first configuration of the system according to the following steps:

• From Program menu, select the folder “RSS10” (or whatever configured) and run the SysCfg, in order to configure for the first time the RSS10 archives.

• The application asks for the language selection as shown in Fig. 4-1:

• To access the archives the password is required. The default password is “rss10md” where “m” is for current month (January = 1, February = 2, do not add zeros to the month number) and “d” is for current day (from 1 to 31, do not add zeros to the day number).

• If the correct password is entered, the first window of the configuration program will appear (see Fig. 4-3).

• Select the tab Connections and click on Add to create a new connection (see Fig. 4-4).

• The Fig. 4-5 appears: click on Avanti to continue.

• Configure the name of the server where the archive resides.

- In case of RSS10 Server, leave the default setting localhost (that is the database will be created on the PC where we are installing the software).

- In case of RSS10 Client enter the IP address or the name of the PC where the RSS10 archive is present. Clicking on Ping it is possible to verify if the entered address is reachable.

- Click Next to continue.

• On the following window click Next to continue leaving all default settings.

• On the Fig. 4-8 execute the following operation, depending on the version of the software installed:

- RSS10 Server

� Select Local Connection;

� Select Create Database and DSN;

� Insert in the field Data Base the name you want to give to the database to be created (default “rss10”);

� Insert in the field Engine the name you want to give to the Database engine (default “rss10”).

- RSS10 Client

� Select Remote Connection;

� Insert in the field Data Base the name of the Database present on the Server;

� Insert in the field Engine the name of the database engine present on the Server.

• Insert a name for the connection that has just been created and then click on Finish.

• In case of no errors a message of successful database creation will appear and the connection details will appear on the Connection tab, see Fig. 4-10.

• Now make the GestProc run and, as soon as the Fig. 4-11 is shown, it is possible to make the ClientMap run.

4.1. GestProc multi-database

GestProc provides the possibility to start more databases at the same time on the same machine. To be able to do that, it is necessary that the database of local connections defined in the SysCfg are configured to use the same engine.

Run the GestProc, select from the list the connections you need to start and then click on the button Connect.

All of the selected databases will be loaded in the same engine (whose name is specified in the column Engine).

Note

Since the databases are manually run, when the GestProc is closed, the database server will still be running. To close it, go to the Windows application bar, click with right-hand mouse button on the relative icon and

select Exit.

5. Installation and Configuration of Windows components

In this chapter the procedure to configure Windows 7 is shown.

In case of another operating system, for more specific information, please refer to the relative Windows guide and manuals.

5.1. Firewall configuration

To set the Firewall in order the make the communication between the peripheral and the centre possible proceed as follows:

• From Control Panel menu select System and Security and then the item Windows Firewall.

• On the left panel, select Turn Windows Firewall on or off.

• Disable the firewall by checking the relative options, see Fig. 5-3.

5.2. FTP Service installation and configuration

The FTP service can be installed during the operating system installation (Internet Information Services).

It can also be installed later, according to the following procedure:

• From Control Panel select Programs and Features - Turn Windows features on or off.

• If you expand the Internet Information Services tree node, you can see that there are a lot of options beneath it. Check FTP Server and the sub-options FTP Service and FTP Extensibility.

• On the Control Panel - Administrative Tools check the availability of the IIS Manger and double click on it (see Fig. 5-6).

• The IIS Manager Panel appears as shown in Fig. 5-7.

• Click on the Sites and select Add FTP Site.

• Set the FTP site name and the path as shown in Fig. 5-9.

• On the Fig. 5-10 set No SSL.

• On the Fig. 5-11 set Anonymous authentication and Read and Write permission. Click Finish to complete the FTP site creation.

• On the IIS Manager panel, right click on the Default FTP Site and select Edit Permission.

• Select the Security Tab, select Users group and click on Edit button: allow Full control option.
