Installation of 8D Ripper (47D, 53F, 54F, 92M, 93M) And 9D Ripper (97L, 22M){5350}

SMCS - 5350 D8K (66V, 76V, 77V) D9H (90V)

The 8D and 9D Rippers are available with two hydraulic cylinders or with two solid links, which are used to adjust the ripper tooth pitch. The Rippers are also available with single or multiple ripper teeth. See Special Instruction Form GEG02268 for installation of the 183 Hydraulic Control and Form GEG02269 for installation of the 193 Hydraulic Control.

(1) Remove the drawbar, corks and all paint from the mounting area on the bevel gear case. On D8K Tractors with ROPS, cut the left and right doors as shown. Install and tighten the new studs to the torque shown. (Illustrations show installation on the D8K Tractor unless shown differently.)

(2) Remove all paint from the mounting surface of the support brackets and around the spotfaces; install support brackets (1). Put lubricant on the stud threads and install washers and nuts (2). Tighten all nuts as shown.



(3) Install eight 4J8981 Seals in the ripper frame. Install the ripper frame using washers as necessary. Install the grease fittings.



(4) Put a block under the frame and install the beam assembly.

(5) Put a block under the beam assembly and install the lift cylinders.



(6) Install the pitch cylinders or solid links if so equipped.



(7) Install tube assemblies (A) using seals, lockwashers and bolts. Install the hydraulic lines as shown using seals, flanges, washers and bolts. Connect lines (B) from the control valve to the lift cylinder rod end; lines (C) from the control valve to the lift cylinder head end; lines (D) from the control valve to pitch cylinder head end; and lines (E) from the control valve to the pitch cylinder rod end. If the ripper is equipped with solid links, hydraulic lines (D) and (E) are not needed.

(8) Connect the hydraulic cylinders or solid links. Install all pins, plates (3), lockwires and grease fittings.



(9) Install the indicator between the upper right hydraulic cylinder and the ripper beam. On the D8K, install brackets (4) and (5), and rod (6). Install washer (7) on rod (6) with two nuts (8). On the D9H, install bracket (9), clamps (10), tube assembly (11), plate (12) and rod (13) as shown. Install washer (14) with nuts (15).

(10) Put grease on each shank and install the shank or shanks from under the ripper beam. Install the shank locking pin.

Hydraulic Pin Puller (If Equipped)



(1) Remove pin (1). Install the pin puller cylinder, the new pin and the linkage to the ripper beam assembly.



(2) If the tractor is equipped with a cab, cut a 1.781" Ø (45.24 Ø) hole (A) and drill three .344" Ø (8.74 Ø) holes (B) in plate (2) at the locations shown. If the tractor does not have a cab, cut a 1.25" Ø (31.75 Ø) hole (C) in cover (3) as shown.

(3) If the tractor is equipped with a cab, drill three .406" Ø (10.3 Ø) holes (D) in the support; use plate (4) as a guide. Install plate (4) with bolts, lockwashers and nuts. On tractors without a cab, install two weld nuts under support (5) at locations (E) and (F) with a .12" (3.0) fillet weld. Install bracket (6) on support (5).



(4) Install the four seals and connectors (7) in valve (8). On tractors equipped with a cab, install valve (8) on plate (4). Install the two elbows (9) in valve (8). On tractors without a cab, install valve (8) on bracket (6).



(5) Remove cover (10) from the mechanism that activates the right brake. Install new cover (11) and elbow (12). Install 3P6048 Hose (13) between elbow (12) and port (G) on the valve as shown.



(6) Remove plug (14) from oil supply line (15) to the steering clutch control valve. Install the seal and connector (16) in place of plug (14). Install 3P6049 Hose (17) between connector (16) and port (H) on the valve. On D9H Tractors only, drill a .406" Ø (10.31 Ø) hole at location (J) and fasten hose (17) to the angle assembly with clip (18) and to the top of the transmission with clip (19). On all tractors, fasten hoses (13) and (17) in position with clip (20).



(7) Install the seals, adapters (21), the seals and elbows (22) in the pin puller cylinder. Connect hoses (23) and (24) to elbows (22) and to the valve as shown. Fasten the hoses in position with clips (25) and (26).



(8) Install handle (27) with the pin and cotter pin. Connect handle (27) to the valve with links (28), the pins, washers and cotter pins. On tractors without a cab, install cover (3) and knob (29).

(9) On tractors with a cab, install boot (30) on plate (2) with three clips (31), the bolts, washers, lockwashers and nuts. Install plate (2) and knob (29).

Final Installation Steps

(1) After installation of the ripper, put grease in all lubrication fittings. Start the engine and check the operation of all cylinders. Check the oil level in the hydraulic tank and fill as necessary as shown in the LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS.
