1. Introduction

1.1 What is TOPCASED ?

TOPCASED is an integrated System/Software engineering toolkit compliant with the

requirements of critical and embedded applications. It covers the stages fromrequirements analysis to implementation, as well as some transversal activities likeanomaly management, version control, and requirements traceability.

TOPCASED is strongly model-oriented : not only TOPCASED provides model editors,model checkers and model transformations, but is also itself based on modelling and codegeneration.

TOPCASED is a meta-tool : you can develop your own graphical editors and modeltransformations using TOPCASED.

1.2 How to download TOPCASED ?

You can download the current release of TOPCASED from the folowwing link:

You have two different ways to install TOPCASED :

We provide RCP bundles for each Windows and Linux platforms. This is theeasisest way to get quickly a complete installation of TOPCASED with all theneeded dependencies.

You can install TOPCASED from the update site on any Indigo platform.

From an Eclipse Indigo platform, TOPCASED update-site enables to install

TOPCASED and its dependencies. It should be helpful if you need to work with acustom platform. Installation steps are described later in this document.

1.3 What is the TOPCASED licence ?

TOPCASED is available under an EPL (Eclipse Public licence). You can consult the EPLat http://www.eclipse.org/org/documents/epl-v10.html.

2. Installing TOPCASED - How to ?

TOPCASED can be possibly used with any platform running Eclipse 3.7.x and has beentested with : Linux (Ubuntu, GTK+, J2SDK 1.6) and Windows (XP, J2SDK 1.6).

2.1. From an RCP bundleLet suppose that you have already installed a Java Runtime Environment.

Download the installer (jar file) corresponding to your operating system from the linkbelow and launch it.

If an installer is not available you can download the archive corresponding to youroperating system from the link below and unzip it into your own location.

If you can't find an RCP for your operating system please use the method specifiedin the next chapter.

From TOPCASED update-site

Let suppose that you have Eclipse and a JVM already installed (if you need informationabout installing Eclipse, please refer to http://www.eclipse.org).

Click on "Help > Install New Software...",

Go into the "Available Software Sites" page

Select "Import..." and then select the topcasedBookmarks.xml file(http://gforge.enseeiht.fr/scm/viewvc.php/*checkout*/releng/org.topcased.releng/topcasedBookmarks.xml?root=topcased-mm). All the necessary sites are added, just

click on "OK" to close the dialog window

Warning: Sometimes after bookmarks import, the Indigo update-site is removed.Topcased requires this update-site to perform installation. Please check that the Indigoupdate-site is still available after import step and add it again if needed: Indigo -http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo

Then select the TOPCASED update-site. You can now select the features you wantto install

Remark:

You can disable the option "Group items by category" to highligh features with sourcesand choose to embed it into your platform.

2.2. Custom installation

If you need to install TOPCASED on your custom Eclipse 3.7 platform, here is the list ofthe required components:

Remark: If you plan to use subversion, we suggest using Subversive: Update Site is apart of Indigo Update Site. Look at Help > Install New Software... > select Indigo -http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo > Collaboration Tools

3. Updating TOPCASED

When a new TOPCASED version is available, you are able to update your platformthrough the update-site. You can see below how to update your platform:

First, you need to add the update-site of the new TOPCASED release in the Eclipsesoftware updates:

Then the software update analyses the new site and show the available updates:

The installation process informs you that some features will be updated

You can click to the next step and perform the update. Your TOPCASED platform is nowupdated to the new release version.
