OIL BATH SEALS

Step 7: Use the inner bearing raceas a guide for tool/seal assembly.

Step 12: Adjust wheel bearings to manufacturer’s or TMC specifications.

Step 6: Use each manufacturerstools on their seals only, they donot interchange.

Step 8: Use a 3-5 lb. hammer. Do not over-drive seal. Failure willresult from damage.

Step 16: Sleeve must be fullyinstalled and flush with shoulder.Return to step 6.

Step 9: Use only the same wheelend lubricant to be used in hub.

Step 10: Use wheel dolly only. Alignhub with spindle and slide on partway. Fill hub with lubricant.

Step 11: Install adjusting nut andtighten slightly. Remove wheeldolly.

Step 13: Use a hammer on theback of a severe service sleeve or face of a standard sleeve.

Step 14: Apply thin film of non-hardening RTV on the axle shoulder only.

Step 15: Drive axle sleeve on toshoulder until the tool rebounds.

Step 1: MVP® Oil Bath Seals,tools, new gasket, torque wrench,and dial indicator.

Step 3: Remove all rust, scale and burrs from all seal related surfaces.

Step 2: Remove all corrosion, oldsealant, and sharp edges, cleanand inspect spindle threads.

Step 4: Place wheel assembly flaton floor or at 45 degree angle.

Step 5: Clean and inspect bearings,lubricate with wheel-end lubricant.

INSTALLING TIPS:• Do not use sealants on the seal O.D.

• Always pre-lubricate with the same lubeto be used in the hub.

• If using grease to lubricate the wheelbearings on non-driven axles, see vehiclemanufacturer or TMC recommendations.

On Trailer Axles:

• Do not exceed the oil level line on thehubcap window.

On Drive Axles:

• Raise one wheel end approximately 8 inches for 30 seconds and repeat forthe other side. Remove the axle fill plug,and add lubricant as needed. Remove the axle breather, clean in solvent. Dry with compressed air, and reinstall.

For installing drive axles, see tipssection below.

For installing MVP two-piece sealaxle sleeves, see steps 13 to 16.

Assemble all required parts andinstallation tools.

Thoroughly prepare all surfaces thatmate with seals and axle nut.

Thoroughly clean and inspect theentire hub, inside and out.

Do not install seals with wheelassembly in vertical position.

Select correct MVP Seal installationtool driver and bearing guide.

Use of a torque wrench and dial indicator is critical.

Fully install hub. Lubricate outerbearing and install.Lubricate inside diameter of seal.Drive seal into bore only until the

tool reounds and sound changes.Carefully align inner bearing withtool/seal assembly.

Remove any gouges or marring fromaxle shoulder with a file.

Remove old axle sleeve with ball-peen hammer. Do NOT use a chisel.

Inspect for full installation, removeall excess RTV.

Use only MVP axle driver and drive plate.
