Introduction

Your digital certificate facilitates the secure exchange of data between yourself and the Department of Human Services – Medicare master program.

After receiving and installing your certificate you may need to configure your browser in order to successfully transmit and receive data.

AssumptionThis document assumes that Internet Explorer is already installed on your computer.

Operating System

Operating system required: Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7

Please follow the attached instructions to install the Chain of Trust into your Internet Explorer browser. This document has been written using Internet Explorer 8. If your computer has a different version of Internet Explorer, there may be slight differences getting to the dialog box required.

Step 1A: To install each of the 3 certificates separately.

Download the 3 Chain of Trust certificates from the Medicare website - see link below:

http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/provider/vendors/pki/index.jsp#N100BC

Select the ‘Save’ button and save each certificate to your desktop.

Step 2A: Installing the ‘Medicare Australia Root Certificate’.

Double click on the ‘Medicare Australia Root CA. cer’ file on your desktop. The certificate dialog box is displayed.

Step 2B:

Note: To ensure you have selected the correct certificate, ensure it expires in 2026.

Select the ‘Install Certificate’ button. The certificate import wizard welcome dialog box is displayed.

Step 2C:

Select the ‘Next’ button. The certificate import wizard 2nd dialog box is displayed.

Select the ‘Place all certificates in the following store’ radio button.

Select the ‘Browse’ button. The Select Certificate Store dialog box is displayed.

Locate and select the ‘Trusted Root Certification Authorities’ folder.

Select the ‘OK’ button.

Select the ‘Next’ button. The certificate import wizard 3rd dialog box is displayed again.

Select the ‘Finish’ button. A security warning message is displayed.

Select the ‘Yes’ button. A confirmation message is displayed advising the import was successful.

Select the ‘OK’ button. The certificate dialog box is displayed.

Select the ‘OK’ button. The Certificate dialog box is closed.

Double click on the ‘Medicare Australia Organisation CA. cer’ file on your desktop.

The certificate dialog box is displayed.

Step 3B:

Note: To ensure you have selected the correct certificate, ensure it expires in 2016.

Select the ‘Install Certificate’ button. The certificate import wizard welcome dialog box is displayed.

Select the ‘Next’ button. The certificate import wizard 3rd dialog box is displayed again.

Step 4A: Installing the 2nd ‘Medicare Australia Organisation Certificate’.

Double click on the ‘Medicare Australia Organisation CA2. cer’ file on your desktop. The certificate dialog box is displayed.

Step 4B:

Note: To ensure you have selected the correct certificate, ensure it expires in 2022.

Select the ‘Install Certificate’ button. The certificate import wizard welcome dialog box is displayed.

Step 6:

You should now be able to view the three Medicare Australia trust certificates in your Internet Explorer settings.

To confirm that the 3 certificates have been imported correctly, open Internet Explorer and select the ‘Tools’ menu.

Select ‘Internet Options’. The Internet Options dialog box is displayed.

Select the ‘Content’ tab.

Select the ‘Certificates’ button. The Certificates dialog box is displayed.

Select the ‘Intermediate Certificates Authorities’ tab. There should be 2 Medicare Australia Organisation certificates which expire in 2016 and 2022 listed.

Select the ‘Trusted Root Certification Authorities’ tab. There should be 1 Medicare Australia Root certificate which expires in 2026 listed.

Select ‘Close’.

Select ‘Ok’ to close the Internet Options dialog box.

The ‘Chain of Trust’ has been successfully installed into Internet Explorer.
