Even, Controlled Flow: When the copper is coiled, it is molded to a oval shape to yield a larger heat transfer area and spacers are inserted between the rows. Hot water or steam enters the head and is diverted through the coil bundle in a counter/cross-flow manner. The inner casing insure even and controlled flow over the exterior of the tubes in the bundle. Self – Cleaning:The ability of the coil to flex with temperature changers combined with the increased flow rate through the oval coil section insures a minimum of deposits.

Flow Through Shell & Coil HX Design

Alstrom’s unique design of highly efficientheat transfer

Efficient Flow Where Needed:The design of the collection chamber, and the an-gle of the tubes results in a low flow rate and less resistance where the water enters the tube. This means less erosion. However, as the tube changes from round to oval, there is a 50% increase in flow rate at the point of heat exchange.

Designed to LastThe connection of the tubes to the chamber and of the coil to the head provide a large, strong silver solder area (15% silver used Cu-Cu and 45% used Cu-Steel). The coil design allows expansion and contraction to occur in the coil and minimizes any stress at these connective points.

ELGE® ’s Steam Water Heater may be specified with self-actuated, electronic or pneumatic control valves. The state-of-the-art controls maintain a preset

water temperature to +/- 4 deg F.

ELGE® Shell and Coil Heat Exchangers consists of a copper coil (battery) within a pressure vessel. The coil is manufactured from drawn, smooth, spiral wound copper tubes with an oval cross section. The tubes are separated by spacers which form channels with uniform counter flow areas. The copper tubes are joined to a collection chamber with low flow resistance.

The heat exchangers are delivered from the factory insulated with 2” of glass fiber which is covered with a stainless steel jacket. This is removable for inspection. They have an adjustable foot stand for easy vertical installation.

ELGE TECHNOLOGIES, Swedish designed but now USA based manufactures highly efficient heat exchangers for Domestic hot water or Hydronic heating. Founded in 1873, ELGE® heat exchangers and prefabricated packaged systems have been installed throughout the U.S. and Canada since 1985. There are over 60,000 ELGE Packaged Water Heaters throughout the world.

2-1/2 to 6-Inch Valve, Two-Way & Three-Way,and Actuator Assembly Selection

Siemens Industry, Inc.

Description This Technical Bulletin will aid in the selection of a Flowrite 599 Series 2-1/2 Inch to 6-Inch valve and actuator assembly. Begin with the graph of water capacity and the chart of close-off pressures to select a valve and actuator according to specifications. Use Tables 1 through 4 to identify product numbers.

These tables show all the possible combinations of the Flowrite 599 Series valves and compatible actuators that can be ordered as complete valve assemblies from the factory.

The dimensions of all valves and the service envelope required for each actuator are included in Tables 5 through 7.

How to Use the Selection Graphs

Use Figure 1, the water capacity graph, to select a valve. Locate the specified flow rate on the vertical axis. Follow across on the horizontal line to the point of intersection with the specified pressure drop. Choose the valve size from the heavy diagonal lines across the graph.

Use Figure 2, the close-off pressure graph, to select an actuator. First locate the valve action and actuator power source specified. Locate the bar that represents the valve line size. The top of the bar indicates the maximum close-off pressure for tight close-off.

Use the legend at the bottom of the graph to identify the actuator.

How To Use The Valve Tables

Tables have been organized to help select a valve and actuator combination using additional specifications.

Moving from left to right, identify the valve by selecting the combination of parameters needed. Continue to the right to match the selected valve to a desired actuator.

A valve and actuator assembly part number is determined by combining the actuator prefix code with the suffix of the valve product number.

NOTES:

1. No valve will combine with all actuators.

2. The symbol “—” indicates a combination is not available.

Selection Example Specification

Select a two-way normally closed valve and actuator assembly for an ANSI 125 piping system that will deliver 500 gpm (113 m3/h) chilled water with an equal percentage flow characteristic with no more than 5 psi (35 kPa) pressure drop across the fully open valve.

The valve shall be operated by a 24 Vac powered, 0 to 10 Vdc control signal, spring return electronic actuator, and must close off tightly against a pump head pressure of 15 psi (1 bar).

Valve Sizing

Use Figure 1, the water capacity graph, to begin valve sizing.

1. Locate 500 gpm (113 m3/h) on the vertical axis to find the required flow.

2. Read across the horizontal axis to find 5 psi (35 kPa), the maximum allowablepressure drop across the open valve.

3. Select a 5-inch (125 mm) 250 Cv (214 Kvs) line size valve because the point ofintersection falls close to the 5-inch line.

Actuator selection

Use Figures 2, the close-off pressure graph, to choose an actuator.

1. Locate the graph for electronic actuators for NC valves in the upper left side of thefigure.

2. Locate the bar for 5-inch valves. The black bar represents an SKB/C actuator.

3. Notice that the SKB/C has the sufficient force to provide tight close-off againstmore than 20 psi (1.4 bar) differential. For a 5-inch valve, select a SKC actuatorwith a 40 mm stroke.

Product Number Selection

Use Table 1 for ANSI Class 125 valves. Begin at the left and select the specifications necessary.

1. Select a two-way, normally closed, equal percentage flow characteristic accordingto the specifications.

2. Select bronze trim for the low pressure water application and standard packing forchilled water.

3. Select the 5-inch line size determined from the sizing example above. Note the40 mm stroke of the valve. The valve part number is 599-05993.

4. Read across the top of the table to Electronic-hydraulic, 40 mm, and 24 Vac, 0-10Vdc control signal. The actuator part number is SKC62U.The actuator code number is 294.

5. Read down the column to determine the valve and actuator assembly productnumber is 294-05993.

NOTE: A valve and actuator can be ordered separately by using the part numbers from Steps 3 and 4.

OUTPUT FUNCTIONSOUTPUT MODULESThe controller can have a total of four control outputs, alarmoutputs and/or loop power modules installed. There are fivetypes of output modules which can be configured to suit yourparticular application. The modules may be ordered factory-installed, or they may be installed in the field.

Analog module: Either 0-20mA or 4-20mA (front panel select-able) into a load up to 1000ohms. Accuracy ±15 microamps@25°C.Mechanical relay module: SPDT electromechanical relay. Resis-tive load rated at 5 amps at 120/240Vac. Normally open or nor-mally closed selection is made by jumper. Output 4 is rated at 0.5amps at 24Vac and is always normally open.Solid state relay (triac) module: Resistive load rated at 1 amp at120/240Vac. Output 4 is rated at 0.5 amps at 24Vac. These out-puts are normally open.DC logic (SSR drive) module: “On” voltage is 17Vdc (nominal).“OFF” voltage is less than 0.5Vdc. (Current limited to 40mA.)Loop power supply module: Current is limited to 25mA@24V.

Control OutputsUp to two output modules may be designated for control. Anycombination of output modules, with the exception of the looppower supply module, may be used.

Duplex control is available if output modules are installed inthe first and second output sockets.Position proportioning control with feedback is available ifmechanical or solid state relay modules are installed in the firsttwo output sockets, and the slidewire feedback option isinstalled. Slidewire feedback range is 0 to 1050ohms."Velocity” position proportioning control is available byinstalling mechanical or solid state relay modules in the firsttwo output sockets. A special time based algorithm controls anelectric actuator without the slideware feedback signal.Staged (split range) outputs are available if analog modulesare installed in the first and second output sockets. Thisalgorithm will allow the output range to be split between thetwo outputs.

CONTROL ALGORITHMPID, P with manual reset, PI, PD with manual reset, andOn-Off are selectable from the front panel. Duplex outputseach use the same algorithm, except On-Off may be used withPID. The PID algorithm used is non-interacting.

TUNING PARAMETERSProportional Band: 0.1 to 999% of input range

Integral: 1 to 9999 seconds/repeat

Derivative: 0 to 600 seconds

Manual Reset/Load Line: 0 to 100% output

Cycle Time: 0.3 to 120 seconds

On-Off Deadband: up to 15% of input range (in eng. units)

Up to eight sets of PID values may be stored in memory andselected automatically, based on setpoint value, process

variable value, or the corresponding local setpoint (SP1–SP8)

Retransmission OutputBased on available outputs (any socket not used for control),up to two different variables can be simultaneouslyprogrammed for retransmission. Each precise, 16-bit resolutionoutput may be scaled for any range. Variable selectionincludes: PV, SP, RAMP, SP, and OUTPUT.Transmitter Loop PowerIsolated 24Vdc (nominal) loop power supply is available if aloop power module is installed in an output socket not used forcontrol. Capacity is 25mA. Two or four wire transmitters can bepowered.

ALARMSThe 535 controller has two software alarms. High and lowalarms may be sourced to:

• Process Variable High

• Process Variable Low

• Process Variable High & Low

• Deviation from S.P.

• Band around S.P.

• Rate of Change

• Manual Control Module

• Remote S.P.

• Control Output

If an alarm is tripped, the alarm message will show, the ACKkey will illuminate (if acknowledgeable) and the ALM icon willlight. If the alarm is tied to the first available non-control output, the “1” below the ALM icon will light. Similarly, if the alarm istied to the second non-control output, the “2” below the ALMwill light. The availabilty of outputs determines how manyalarms can be tied to relays.

Up to two alarm outputs are available if an associatedmechanical, solid state relay or DC logic module is installed inany output socket not used for control.

Global Alarm feature allows one or more of the internalsoftware alarms to be tied to the same single, physical output. The acknowledge key is active for alarms associated witheither loop.

SECURITYThere are two levels of access: restricted and full. Aconfigurable code is used to enter the full access level. Func-tions not available in the restricted level are configurable. Sixdifferent groups of parameters can be restricted.

PROFILE CONTROLLER OPTIONWhen a 535 is specified as a profile controller, the SET PT(setpoint key) is replaced at the factory with a RUN key to fa-cilitate operation. Setpoint access is available through use ofthe DISPLAY key. All functions are described in the manualsupplement. The 535 with profile option, provides full ramp andsoak capability with the following features:

20 RECIPES/PROGRAMSUp to 20 recipes/programs may be stored in memory and recalledby number through the front panel keys, digital inputs or RS-485Communications.

24 SEGMENTS PER RECIPE12 ramps and 12 dwells may be programmed for each recipe.Programming a dwell time of OFF effectively skips the dwell allow-ing 2 consecutive ramps of different rates. Recipes may be linked ifmore than 24 segments are necessary.

GUARANTEED SOAK WITH ADJUSTABLE HYSTERESISWhen activated, dwell time doesn’t start until the ramp setpointhas been achieved within the specified hysteresis (a positive ornegative deviation from the dwell setpoint).

3 EVENT OUTPUT CAPABILITYUp to 3 event outputs, programmable per segment, may beselected depending on the availability of controller outputs. The535 has 4 outputs. If 1 is used for control, 3 are available forevents. Likewise, if 1 is for control and 1 for an alarm, 2 areavailable for events. These outputs are available to turn on fans, start another process and perform other functions.

RAMPS PROGRAM IN TIME OR RATEA ramp can be programmed to take place over a specific amountof time or be based on the rate of change of the PV per hour. Iftime based, the time to reach setpoint must be between 0:01 and99:59 (hours:minutes). If rate based, the setpoint must be reachedat a rate between –9999 and 9999 engineering units per hour.

DUAL TIME BASETwo modes are available, Hours:Minutes or Minutes:Seconds

MULTIPLE CYCLES, 1–99 PER EACH RECIPERecipes may be programmed to automatically repeat up to 99times.

RECIPE LINKINGAll 20 recipes may be linked to form a new longer version. For example, select recipe 4 to automatically follow recipe 2.

REMOTE FUNCTIONS VIA DIGITAL INPUTUsing the optional digital inputs, the following functions may be re-motely activated: Start, Hold, Reset, Abort and Segment advance.

MODIFY RECIPES WHILE RUNNINGIndividual recipes may be modified by the operator while running.

REMOTE RECIPE CHOICE VIA DIGITAL INPUTUsing the optional digital inputs, recipes 1-7 may be selectedremotely.

Control Solutions’ Babel Buster BB2-3010is a BACnet MS/TP client/server device that functions as a Modbus RTU master/slave. A large number of BACnet objects gives you fl exibility in mapping Modbus registers to any combination of BACnet objects. Packed Modbus registers may be parsed to mul-tiple BACnet objects when reading. Multiple BACnet objects may be packed into a single Modbus register when writing. All standard Modbus register types are supported.

Input objects will poll their assigned Modbus register at the inter-val you specify, and provide the Modbus data as the Present Value when read. Commandable Output objects are used to write Modbus registers, and will update the Modbus device each time BACnet is updated. The BB2-3010 supports up to 300 non-commandable ob-jects, or up to 135 commandable objects, or a mix in between.

Value objects will poll their assigned Modbus register at the inter-val you specify. The content of the Modbus register will be given as the Present Value of the BACnet object when read. The Modbus register is written each time the BACnet Value object is written. The Value object corresponds to the Modbus Holding register.

The BB2-3010 is most often used as a Modbus master, but it can operate as a slave while MS/TP operates as a client (master). This makes it possible to put MS/TP devices on a Modbus network (but does still require an understanding of BACnet). MS/TP data in re-mote devices is queried and saved locally. The local data may then be accessed by another Modbus master.
