SAN DIEGO—Multinational employers nowhave more choice when it comes to theirglobal property/casualty insurance programs.

Boston-based Liberty Mutual Group andParis-based AXA Corporate Solutions haveformed an alliance whereby the insurers willunderwrite and service the foreign operationsof each other’s policyholders in their respec-tive parts of the world.

The insurers jointly announced the newpartnership Monday during the Risk & Insur-ance Management Society Inc. 2004 AnnualConference & Exhibition in San Diego.

Under the agreement, Liberty Mutual willconcentrate on U.S.-based multinationalclients and will help AXA’s European multi-national clients with any insurance needsthey have in the United States.

AXA will concentrate on clients in theUnited Kingdom, France and Germany and

aid Liberty Mutual’s U.S. clients with their in-surance needs in Europe and other selectedcountries, such as Morocco and Turkey, ac-cording to Trond Landsvik, managing direc-tor of Liberty Global, a Liberty Mutual unitbased in Boston.

Because Liberty Mutual and AXA concen-trate on different clients, “the network willwork, because we’re not in competition witheach other in any lines,” Mr. Landsvik said.

“Our ultimate goal is to provide U.S.-based

multinational clients with the option to ex-tend their domestic insurance program to in-clude foreign countries and to duplicate, asmuch as we can, the services we offer todaydomestically,” Mr. Landsvik said.

Liberty Global provides multinationalclients with a range of primary property/casu-alty products and services in 85 countries viaa network of Liberty Mutual subsidiaries andinsurance partners.

For AXA, the new partnership “will com-plement the services currently offered by ouraffiliated company in New York, (AXA Cor-porate Solutions Insurance Co.), providingour international clients a full range of exper-tise in the U.S., particularly in such areas asworkers compensation, commercial auto andsurety bonds,” Jean Paul Rignault, chief exec-utive officer of AXA Corporate Solutions, saidin a statement.
