INTROIT. Is. 30,30. People of

Sion, behold theLord shall come tosave the nations;and the Lord shallmake the glory ofHis voice to beheard in the joy ofyour heart. Ps. 79,2. Give ear, O

Thou that rulest Israel: Thou that leadest Joseph like a sheep.V. Glory.

PRAYER. Stir up our hearts, O Lord, to prepare the waysof Thine only-begotten Son, that through His coming we

may be worthy to serve Thee with purified minds. Wholivest.

EPISTLE. Rom. 15, 4-13. Brethren, what things so everwere written, were written for our learning; that through

patience and the comfort of the Scriptures we might havehope. Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you tobe of one mind one toward another, according to JesusChrist: that with one mind, and with one mouth, you mayglorify God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Where-fore receive one another; as Christ also hath received you, unto the honor of God. For I say that Christ Jesus was min-ister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm thepromises made unto the fathers. But that the Gentiles are toglorify God for His mercy, as it is written: Therefore will Iconfess to Thee, O Lord, among the Gentiles, and will singto Thy name. And again He saith: Rejoice, ye Gentiles, withHis people. And again: Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; andmagnify Him, all ye people. And again, Isaias saith: Thereshall be a root of Jesse; and He that shall rise up to rule theGentiles, in Him the Gentiles shall hope. Now the God ofhope fill you with all joy and peace in believing; that you mayabound in hope, and in the power of the Holy Ghost.

G RADUAL. Ps. 49, 2, 3, 5. Out of Sion the loveliness ofHis beauty: God shall come manifestly. V. Gather ye

together His saints to Him; who have set His covenant be-fore sacrifices.

ALLELUIA, ALLELUIA. V. Ps. 121, 1. I rejoiced at thethings that were said to me: we shall go into the house of

the Lord. Alleluia.

G OSPEL. Matt. 11, 2-10. At that time when John hadheard in prison the works of Christ: sending two of his

disciples, he said to Him: Art Thou He that art to come, ordo we look for another? and Jesus making answer, said tothem, Go and relate to John what you have heard and seen. The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deafhear, the dead rise again, the poor have the gospel preachedto them; and blessed is he that shall not be scandalized inMe. And when they went their way, Jesus began to say to themultitudes concerning John, What went you out into the de-sert to see? a reed shaken with the wind? But what went youout to see? a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they thatare clothed in soft garments are in the houses of kings. Butwhat went you out to see? a prophet? yea, I tell you, andmore than a prophet. For this is He of whom it is written,Behold I send My angel before Thy face, who shall prepareThy way before Thee.

O FFERTORY. Ps. 84, 7, 8. O God, turning, Thou wiltbring us life; and Thy people shall rejoice in Thee: show

us, O Lord, Thy mercy, and grant us Thy salvation.

SECRET. Be appeased, we beseech Thee, O Lord, by theprayers and offerings of our lowliness, and where no sup-

port of merits is at hand, do Thou hasten to us with Thineaid.

COMMUNION. Bar. 5,5; 4,36. Arise, O Jerusalem, andstand on high: and behold the joy that cometh to thee

from thy God.

POSTCOMMUNION. Filled with the food of spiritual nour-ishing, we humbly beseech Thee, O Lord, that by our

partaking of this mystery Thou wouldst teach us to condemnearthly and love heavenly things. Through our Lord.

Entrance: Veni, Veni, EmmanuelRefrain only:Gaude! Gaude! EmmanuelNascetur pro te Israel.

Recessional: O Come, O Come, EmmanuelO come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel, that mourns in lonely exile hereuntil the Son of God appear.

Refrain:Rejoice! Rejoice!Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, thou Wisdom from on high, who orderest all things mightily;to us the path of knowledge show, and teach us in her ways to go. Refrain

O come, thou Rod of Jesse, freethine own from Satan's tyranny;from depths of hell thy people save, and give them victory over the grave. Refrain

St. Nicholas~ Feast Day December 6th ~

By tradition, St. Nicholas was born in the province ofLycia on the Mediterranean coast near Turkey, in the cityof Patara to wealthy pious parents, Theophanes andNonna. The date of his birth is not known, though the year270 is attributed to him. This area was a Greek colony in aprovince of the Roman Empire, under the rule of theruthless Emperor Diocletian (245-313). His parents diedwhen he was young and so he was raised by an uncle, alsocalled Nicholas, who was the bishop of Patara. Havinginherited his parents' estate, he became known for hisgenerous gifts to those in need. As a youth, he made

pilgrimages to Palestine and Egypt. St. Nicholas was ordained to thepriesthood and later consecrated Archbishop of Myra as the fourth centurybegan. Emperor Diocletian mounted some of the fiercest persecutions ofthe early Church, especially in the East of the Empire. Because he spokeout against the Roman pagan gods, St. Nicholas was imprisoned, but waslater released by Emperor Constantine, when he issued the Edict of Milanin 313. St. Nicholas was noted for his defense of orthodoxy againstthe Arian heretics. He is reputed to have been present at the Councilof Nicea, but his name does not appear among any documents from thatera. He died in Myra on December 6 in a year uncertain, somewherebetween 342 and 352. St. Nicholas, ora pro nobis

“God does not accept the sacrifice of asower of disunion, but commands that hedepart from the altar so that he may firstbe reconciled with his brother . For God

can be appeased only by prayers thatmake peace. To God, the better offeringis peace, brotherly concord and a peoplemade one in unity of the Father, Son andHoly Ghost.” - St. Cyprian, Bishop & martyr. (Pe Dom, orat. .23:PL4,

Welcome to St. Mary’s OratoryWith the gracious permission of BishopDavid Malloy, Bishop of Rockford, the ex-traordinary form of Holy Mass is offered atSt. Mary by the Institute of Christ the KingSovereign Priest. We are pleased to haveyou join us in this venerable act of worshipand invite you to return often.

In the traditional Mass everyone has hisproper role whether it be celebrant, choir, server, usher, or congregation. At HighMass, the choir makes all responsessimply because that is their function. The congregation, on the other hand, responds internally, as opposed to vocal-ly, and this is still, according to PopePius XII in his encyclical “Mediator Dei”active participation. Active participationis wide-ranging, such as singing, silentmeditation or even recitation of the Ro-sary during Mass, because active partici-pation does not necessitate vocal re-sponses but unity of intent with the cele-brant (priest). To assist at Mass morefully, use the missals provided in thepews, paying particular attention to anynotes in the margin. All the “propers,”scriptural parts of the Mass, proper tothe day. These can be found in the bulle-tin. Simply follow those around you as towhen one should stand, sit, or kneel.Lastly, please keep a “holy silence” in thechurch at all times, out of respect forChrist’s presence in the tabernacle. Sincethere is no mixing of the old and newrites, Holy Communion is to be receivedon the tongue while kneeling at the altarrail. the response “Amen” is not said bythe communicant when receiving theHost.

A kind reminder: Only Catholics inthe state of grace (not have commit-ted a grave sin) and having fasted for

1 hour, are free to receive HolyCommunion.
