Climate of Montenegro

The geographical position of Montenegro determines its climate as the dominant Mediterranean

The southern part is characterized by pure Mediterranean climate

(with long, hot and dry summers and relatively mild and rainy winters)

The central part and one part of the North have the characteristics of mountain climate with evident influence of the Mediterranean Sea

(which is reflected through the precipitation regime and higher mean temperatures in the coldest months)

The far northern part of the country has a continental climate

(with characteristic large daily and annual temperature fluctuations and low annual rainfall )

Climate services to agricultural sector

Drought monitoring (using SPI index and satellite data for FVC(Fraction Vegetation Cover index) and LAI (Leaf Area Index) for thevineyards AD Plantaze

analysis and monitoring of the soil temperature

Agricultural bulletin based on climate services→

Activities within the project: Drought Management Centre for South-Eeastern Europe – DMCSEE, http://www.dmcsee.org/

data about the values of meteorological parameters on the request for scientific work and research in agriculture

information on analysis of phenological data according to customer requirements and other types of information related to agriculture A few years ago, IHMS

processed meteorological danger indices of occurrence of forest fires, "the state of risk of fire on that day“- FWI.

CLIDATA

Since October 2008, in operational use is CLIDATA - a system for storing climatological data prepared in accordance with the WMO recommendations and standards in this area.

There are available products derived from CLIDATA

The reference climatological period in use is 1961-1990

Department for Agrometeorology has two operational databases: one with data from 25 phenologicalstations and database on soil temperature with 11 agrometeorological stations. Phenological base contains data divided in 7 basic categories, which are as follows: fruit growing, wine grape, agriculture, forest trees, herbal diseases and pests, beekeeping and general field works.Database on soil temperatures contains data on temperatures on seven depths: 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 and100cm.
