ITE CERTIFICATION SYSTEM

The ITE Certification System comprises three certification levels as follows:

National ITE Certificate (Nitec) for training courses t N Level or GCE Level as an entry requirement, with pre-requisites for certain courses.

Higher National ITE Certificate (Higher Nitec) for training course Level or GCE'N' (Academic) Level with pre-requisites as an entry requirement.

Master National ITE Certificate (Master Nitec) for training courses that require Nitec and some years of work experience as an entry requirement.

JANUARY 2013 INTAKE EXERCISE Joint Intake Exercise N N for Nitec Courses The January 2013 Joint Intake Exercise N (JIE N ) is conducted to enable / (Academic) / O Level school leavers to apply for the National ITE Certificate (Nitec) courses conducted by the Institute of Technical Education (ITE). / (Academic) / GCE O Level school leavers can choose to take up a course under Full-Time Education or Traineeship.

for Higher Nitec Courses under Direct Entry Scheme to Polytechnic Programme (DPP) The January 2013 J is conducted to enable Level school leavers with the relevant pre-requisites to apply for the Higher National ITE Certificate (Higher Nitec) courses conducted by ITE under the Direct Entry Scheme to Polytechnic Programme (DPP). Successful applicants are required to attend a 10-week preparatory course followed by 2 years of Higher Nitec training. Upon completion of the Higher Nitec training, graduates will be assured of a place in a related Polytechnic Diploma course if they meet the qualifying criteria for progression. Eligible school leavers may apply for Higher Nitec Nitec Higher Nitec course you will not be offered a Nitec Notes 1. You will receive a Form N and this ITE Admission Booklet through your school on the day when the 2012

N evel examination results are released. The Form N is printed for you if you have sat for the 2012 N evel examination as a school candidate. The full-time ITE courses you are eligible to apply based

N Level results are indicated on the Form N. Offer of a course is based on merit and vacancy available.

FULL-TIME TRAINING SYSTEM ITE offers a wide range of full-time courses at the National ITE Certificate (Nitec) level. -time courses are conducted in a Semester-based Credit System of Training (SCT). Under SCT, each training year is divided into two terms of 6 months each. In each term, students are given skills training in specific modules. Students are assessed on the performance of each module. On passing a module, credit points will be awarded to the students. Students who have accumulated the required number of credit points stipulated for the course of study will be awarded an ITE certificate. FULL-TIME NITEC COURSES AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

N / O Level holders can apply for the following full-time National ITE Certificate (Nitec) courses. Applicants may choose up to a maximum of 10 choices. Each choice will comprise the course and college, eg Nitec in Service Skills (Office) at ITE College Central and Nitec in Service Skills (Office) at ITE College East are taken as 2 choices.

POSTING OF APPLICANTS Different categories of Nitec courses come with different entry requirements ranging from completed GCE N Level to 3 GCE N evel passes. Level school leavers applying for admission to full-time Nitec courses must first satisfy the entry requirements including passes in the pre-requisite subjects for the courses applied. Admission is merit- Level subjects, including pre-requisite subjects and bonus points where applicable and is subjected to availability of vacancies. Instructions to Successful Applicants Who Have Accepted Nitec Courses

For Singaporeans/Permanent Residents

You are required to report to your posted college between Wed 2 Jan 13 and Fri 4 Jan 13 to register for your course. A separate letter will be posted to you to inform you of the registration details.

The first term fees payable is indicated on page 85. For your convenience, you may pay your first term fees via a number of payment modes which is explained on page 84. If you do not pay your fees by Fri 4 Jan 13, you will be deemed to have forfeited your training place and the place will be offered to other eligibleapplicants appealing for a place in the course.

You are to report to your posted college on Mon 7 Jan 13 at 9am or other time as advised by your college, in your former school uniform or ITE uniform to commence training. Please bring your NRIC on that day.

For International Students

You are required to apply for Student Pass via SOLAR Plus by Fri 4 Jan 13. A separate letter will be posted to you to inform you of the details. Your admission to the course is subject to clearance by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) for the issuance of a Student’s Pass to study in ITE.

Upon obtaining your Student’s Pass, you are to report to Customer & Visitor Centre @ Ang Mo Kio to pay your first term fees and obtain your Posting Letter. You are also required to submit the completed Application Form for InterBank GIRO (attached at the end of this booklet) for payment of 2nd term fees onwards and medical report (if you are posted to a course with medical examination). The payment modes are explained on page 84 and the first term fees payable are indicated on page 85. Upon obtaining the Posting Letter, please report to your posted college to commence training. You are allowed to commence your training only after you have obtained the Posting Letter from Customer & Visitor Centre @ Ang Mo Kio,paid your first term fees and submitted the completed Application Form for InterBank GIRO.

If you do not report to the college with a Posting Letter to commence training by 31 Jan 13, your training place will be forfeited and offered to other eligible applicant appealing for a place in the course.

DIRECT ENTRY SCHEME TO POLYTECHNIC PROGRAMME (DPP) Fobenefit from a more hands-on preparation at ITE, you may first enrol in a Higher Nitec course at ITE. You will subsequently be assured of either a first- or second-year place in a related polytechnic course, provided you achieve the qualifying Grade Point Average (GPA) score in your Higher Nitec course.

Offers for Higher Nitec courses under DPP

School leavers who had applied for Higher Nitec courses under DPP will be made a confirmed offer if their actual GCE ‘N’ (Academic) results meet the minimum entry requirements of the course offered. Admission is based on merit and subject to vacancies.

Students who have applied using their school-based ‘O’ Level preliminary examination results and have been selected for the DPP, will be made conditional offers. These offers will only be confirmed if the students meet the eligibility criteria after the release of the GCE ‘O’ Level results in January 2013. Students who have accepted their conditional offers in December 2012 will not be required to re-apply. School leavers who do not meet the eligibility criteria after the release of the GCE ‘O’ Level results may approach their secondary schools for re-admission. They will be withdrawn from the Higher Nitec course and provided a full fee refund.

The Higher Nitec courses are of 2¼ years in duration for successful GCE ‘N’ (Academic) Level candidates. Students will first undergo a 10-week preparatory course in January 2013 before they start their 2-year Higher Nitec training in April 2013.

The offer of an ITE course to applicants is subject to them being physically, medically and mentally fit to pursue the course. This is to ensure that all students can benefit from ITE training in a safe and conducive environment. Applicants or students assessed by ITE as being unfit can be withdrawn from the course. Where appropriate, they may be considered for other courses if there are suitable ones. Applicants with specific disabilities are strongly encouraged to seek prior academic course advising from the respective College(s) before selecting their choice of application. For further assistance on course advising before submission of application, please call the ITE Customer Service Hotline on 1800-CALL ITE (1800-2255-483).

Notes: Applicants for the following courses must ensure that they do not have colour appreciation deficiency: Business Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Mechatronics Engineering and Wireless Technology courses. GCE ‘N(A)’ Level school leavers applying for admission to full-time Higher Nitec courses must first satisfy the entry requirements, including passes in the pre-requisite subjects for the courses applied. Admission is based on merit, and posting to a course is based on an aggregate of the student’s English, Mathematics and Best 3 GCE ‘N’ (Academic) subject scores (ELMAB3). A lower aggregate point is indicative of better performance.

Step 4: If you are offered a course and would like to accept the course offer, you are required to verify / provide your personal particulars and health declaration before you can accept the course offer. Please get ready the information given in Table below before you proceed to accept the course offer. For Singaporeans/Permanent Residents You are required to report to your posted college between Wed 2 Jan 13 and Fri 4 Jan 13 to register for your course. A separate letter will be posted to you to inform you of the registration details. The first term fees payable is indicated on page 85. For your convenience, you may pay your first term fees via a number of payment modes which is explained on page 84. If you do not pay your fees by Fri 4 Jan 13, you will be deemed to have forfeited your training place and the place will be offered to other eligible applicants appealing for a place in the course. You are to report to your posted college on Mon 7 Jan 13 at 9 am or other time as advised by your college, in your former school uniform or ITE uniform to commence training. Please bring your NRIC on that day. For International Students You are required to apply for Student Pass via SOLAR Plus by Mon 31 Dec 12. A separate letter will be posted to you to inform you of the details. Your admission to the course is subject to clearance by the Immigration & Checkpoints ITE.

Otherwise, your place will be offered to those who are eligible and have appealed for the course. To appeal for transfer to another course, you can accept the course offered and submit another application via the Internet.

7) Fees is charged based on Citizenship at the point of term commencement. Students who have officially informed ITE of their Citizenship change to Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident before the term commencement will have their fees adjusted to the Singapore Citizen / Permanent Resident rate for that term. However, for students who inform ITE officially of their Citizenship change to Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident after the term commencement, their fees will be adjusted to the Singapore Citizen / Permanent Resident rate only with effect from the next term.

For recipients in a 2-year course, renewal in the second year of study is subject to their performance and conduct during the first year of study. The value of the award is $1,200 per year. 3) Howe Yoon Chong-PSA Scholarship The Howe Yoon Chong-PSA Scholarship provides financial assistance to Singaporeans from lower income families to upgrade themselves through attaining formal qualifications and/or technical skills. The Scholarship is open to Singapore citizens aged 25 years and below who are admitted to a full-time Higher Nitec or Nitec course and whose gross monthly household per capita income is $750 and below. For applicants

not exceed 26 points. For asubjects must not exceed 9 points. The Scholarship will pay for the tuition and other compulsory fees, monthly living allowance of $300, and an annual book allowance of $200. Applications will open in December 2012. Details on the Scholarship are available at http://www.hycpsascholarship.com.

4) MOE Bursary The MOE Bursary is introduced for ITE students whose gross monthly household per capita income must not $1,700. Students may apply for the bursary at any time during an academic year. The bursary quantum is given in the table below:

Applicants must be a subsidized Singapore citizen student pursuing full-time Nitec or Higher Nitec course and must not concurrently hold other bursaries or scholarships. To apply for the bursary, an applicant will be required to submit an on-line application form, followed by submitting the supporting income documents to the College where he/she is studying. 5) ITE Special Student Assistance Scheme (SSAS) This scheme is aimed at providing financial assistance to needy ITE full-time students who require financial support after the application period for the CDC & CCC-ITE Bursary. In a way, the ITE SSAS is an exigency scheme to provide support to needy students so that they can continue with their study. To apply for the financial assistance, an applicant will be required to submit an on-line application form, followed by submitting the supporting income documents to the College where he/she is studying.

6) ITE Arts Excellence Award The objective of the ITE Arts Excellence Award is to attract school leavers with outstanding performance track record in music and the arts to pursue technical training in ITE. The award is also given to encourage and motivate on-going students to excel in music and the arts. ITE full-time Higher Nitec and Nitec students who have a good record of CCA, conduct and performance in school or ITE College can apply for the award. The value of the award is $800 for one academic year only. A full-time student in a 2-year course will have to re-apply for the award at the beginning of the second year of study.

7) ITE Sports Excellence Award The objective of the ITE Sports Excellence Award is to attract school leavers with outstanding performance track record in sports and games to pursue technical training in ITE. The award is also given to encourage and motivate on-going students to excel in sports and games. ITE full-time Higher Nitec and Nitec students who have represented Singapore or Singapore schools in sports and games can apply for the award. The value of the award is $800 for one academic year only. A full-time student in a 2-year course will have to re-apply for the award at the beginning of the second year of study.

8) Edusave Merit Bursary The Edusave Merit Bursary is awarded to ITE full-time Higher Nitec or Nitec students in recognition of their academic performance. Singapore Citizens who are ranked within the top 25 per cent of their course based on their examination results of the training year and have a Gross Monthly Household Income of less than $5,000 or per capita income is below $1,250, will qualify for this award. Each award is valued at $500. All eligible students will be informed by their respective CCCs on the application procedure.

9) Good Progress Award The Good Progress Award (GPA) is aimed at rewarding the top 10% of ITE full-time Singaporean students who show commendable improvements in their Higher Nitec and Nitec courses. They must have passed all the accountable modules in the examinations and must not be in receipt of the Edusave Merit Bursary or CDC & CCC-ITE Scholarship. Each award is valued at $400. No application for the award is required as the students who have shown progress in their studies will be identified.

10) Edusave Awards for Achievement, Good Leadership and Service (EAGLES) The EAGLES is given to recognise students for their leadership qualities, service to community or excellence in the non-academic areas, i.e. Sports & Games, Arts and Cultural Activities, Clubs and Societies, and Community Involvement Programme (CIP). Up to 10% of ITE full-time Higher Nitec and Nitec students who are Singapore citizens will be selected for the award yearly. No application for the award is required. Students are selected based on their CCA and CIP participation. The cash quantum of each award is $500. An equivalent award is available to non-Singaporean students to recognise their leadership qualities, service to community and excellence in the non-academic areas. Up to 10% of ITE full-time Higher Nitec and Nitec non-Singaporean students will be selected for the award yearly. 11) Singapore Armed Forces - ITE Sponsorship Scheme (SISS) and Military Domain Experts Scheme Study Award (MSA) (Higher Nitec / Nitec) Students seeking admission into ITE full-time Higher Nitec and Nitec courses may apply for sponsorship under SISS or MSA (Higher Nitec / Nitec). Under these schemes, the SAF will provide ITE students with sponsorship of their studies, which covers tuition fees and other compulsory fees. In addition, they will receive a monthly allowance ranging between $550 to $750, depending on course and the type of vocation applied. Sponsored students are required to serve a bond upon completion of their ITE courses. They may choose to join the Army, Navy or Air Force.

TRAINEESHIP TRAINING SYSTEM Traineeship is a structured mode of training that enables you to learn a valuable skill in an actual work environment and earn a salary at the same time. The training duration varies from one to 2 years, depending on the traineeship course you have chosen. A traineeship course comprises 2 components as follows: On-the-job training You will work under the supervision of an experienced and qualified trainer in the company to learn the skills needed for the job. Off-the-job training You will attend theory and practical lessons at an ITE College or an ITE Approved Training Centre (ATC). Results of Applications Registration for a traineeship course is based on a first-come first-served basis. If you have submitted an application for a traineeship course, you will need to attend an interview at the company you are referred to within the dates given in the application confirmation slip. Otherwise, your place will be offered to other applicants who are eligible and have applied for the course. If you are not successful at the interview, you can re-apply for another course at the Customer & Visitor Centre @Ang Mo Kio. The office hours for Customer & Visitor Centre @Ang Mo Kio are Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm.

Alternatively, you may down-load and complete the application form from www.ite.edu.sg and submit it to the Industry-based Training Division.

AWARDS

-Institute of Technical Education (CDC & CCC-ITE) Scholarship Singaporean school leavers who have matriculated for ITE traineeship courses and who are in the top 10

CDC & CCC-ITE Scholarship. Successful recipients will be informed by ITE. No application is required. Each scholarship will be awarded for the duration of the course subject to a maximum of 2 years. Renewal in the second year of study is subject to the recipierecipients from a 3-year course, no award would be given in their third year. The value of the award is $1,200 per year. Recipients of the CDC & CCC-ITE Scholarship will not be eligible for any other ITE or government-funded scholarship/bursary awards.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON INTER-BANK GIRO SERVICE 1. Students are required to pay all fees (programme, supplementary and exam fees) through Inter-Bank GIRO. 2. Please complete the Inter-Bank GIRO Application Form and return it to your respective campus. 3. With effect from September 2002, the ITE’s bank account for collecting fees via Inter-Bank GIRO is 7375-001-9893451826. 4. Fees are payable in advance each semester and are deducted automatically from your bank account. Students will
