To the President and Members of thej

Illinois St. Andrew'' s Society:

The Constitution of the Society requires that an Annual Re-

port shall be published each year (Sec. 2, Art. xv). In compli-

ance I herewith submit report for the year ending November 30th,

1879. For several reasons the report has been delayed beyond

the usual time. I have no suggestions to make. Part of last

year's business has got mixed in with this year's, which could not

well be avoided. The list of members, with date of admission

(which has never before been published), is to date ; those before

the fire I could only find the year, as the books were burned.

I have no record of place of nativity of quite a number of mem-|

bers, but if they will send me the missing information I will place

it on the books. There are some whose residence I have failed

to receive;they will know such to be the case if they receive no

notice of quarterly meeting. Members will please notify me of I

any errors in this report, at 226 Warren Avenue.

Gents—I beg leave to submit my annual report. The number of newmembers have been larger than last year. The amount of money collected for

dues is not quite as large as last year, but as a large number of members have

promised to pay at this meeting, I trust the whole amount will be fully equal to

that of former years.

I would recommend that action be taken at this meeting, allowing the Sec-

retary to give each mem])er who may so request, a diploma of membership free

Report of Board of Managers,

To the President and Meitibers of the

Illinois St. Andreiv's Society:

Gentlemen—We herewith present the Thirty -Third Annual Report

of the Board of Managers.

This Report must necessarily be without some of the usual details on account

of the death of our Chairman, Mr. Thos. Hastie, but nothing essential is

wanting.

At the quarterly meeting held in August, John Stewart was elected to fill

the place made vacant by the death of Mr. Hastie.

The financial results of the gatherings of the Society have placed the funds

in a more satisfactory condition than they have been for some time, and your

Board of Managers have extended relief to every deserving applicant, thereby

alleviating the distress of many Scottish poor, and also finding situations for

many willing to work.

The Board of Managers expended during the year $429.60; of this $57.00

was paid for bills of the old Board, leaving the actual amount disbursed by this

Board, $372.60. About one-third of this was for railroad tickets—the balance

for drugs, coal, provisions;

also, meals and lodgings.

The Society is again deeply indebted to C. G. Truesdell, Esq., of the Chi-

cago Relief and Aid Society, Alex. MacKay, Esq., of the M. C. R. R., to the

various agents of railroads, the Atlantic steamship companies, and to Alex. M.Thomson, Esq., for his usual large donation of tea and coffee. To all of these

gentlemen we herewith tender the thanks of the Society.

To Dr. R. D. MacArthur, our worthy physician, the thanks of the Society

is especially due.

Report of Cemetery Committee,



Gentlemen—The grounds have been kept in good order during the year

at an expense of twenty dollars.

No interments have been made in the old grounds during the year, and only

one in the new grounds.

Seventy-five new stakes have been provided for the new ground, and the

maps properly lettered and divided so that children's graves will be by them-

selves.

Gen. McArthur has deeded to the Society a piece of ground owned by the

old Highland Guard, in Rose Hill Cemetery, 9 x 12 feet, worth $54.00, on con-

dition that this Society remove from that ground a body at present interred

there to this Society's old ground. Under instructions given at a former meet-

ing of this Society, your Committee has accepted the deed, which is now with

the managers of the Rose Hill Cemetery Company for their approval.

We hereby tender a vote of thanks of this Society to Gen. John McArthur

and the other representatives of the Highland Guard.
