What is a film distributor, and what do they do?

• Is an organization, or even an individual who are responsible for the release of films, and acts as the connection between the film production and the film exhibitor.

• The term distributor, distributes films to various cinemas, or for home viewing eg: DVDs or television programs. The Distributor can either do this themselves or through theatrical exhibitors and other sub-distributor. However the Distributor has to have a clear understanding of the genre of the film, as they need to distribute to the correct target audience for the film.

BBC Film Network• The BBC film network focuses on the distribution of short British films, releasing four short

films ever week. There website allows views to view and comment on the short films, and provide tips and resources on how to make and distribute your personal short film.

• They explain in great detail all the key terms a upcoming distributor will need to know, and allowing them to create profiles, so they will be able to keep up with the distribution of films within the BBC.

DNA Films• DNA films was produced in 1997 by Andre MacDonald and Duncan Kenworth. DNA films is an

independent film production and distribution company, who have produced a small number of films, yet the films they produce become very well know and popular

• 28 Days Later• The Last King of Scotland.

• DNA films have a collaboration agreement with Fox Searchlight. Which when collaborated together they have enough money to produce large scale independent British films, and even have enough to produce sequels to their films.

PARAMOUNT

Paramount Pictures is an American film and television production/distribution company. It is one of the most famous and well known film company across the world.

• it is the second oldest existing American film studio behind Universal studios.• Paramount are responsible for some of the biggest and most famous films within the film

industry.

WANRER BROs• WARNER BROS. DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION, part of the Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group,

oversees the electronic distribution of Warner Bros.• Warner Bros. Entertainment has agreed a multi-layered UK film distribution agreement with

leading European film and TV subscription service Love film. This now means that LoveFilm will become one of their main distributors.

• Warner Bros are Offering a great selection of recent movies from their portfolio, that LoveFilm will distribute on their website and offer to their customers.

CONCLUSION

• In conclusion I believe a smaller independent British film distributor would be best suited to fund our film. Considering our film is set in London, and doesn't require expensive funding. This is because the majority of our film is set outside within London city, and only features 3 main characters.
