INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing the TOPCON Auto Kerato-refracto-tonometer TRK-1P.

This instrument has the following features:• Exact measurement of refraction power, corneal curvature, intraocular pressure and

central corneal thickness by simple operations• Softer air blow in measuring intraocular pressure• Auto alignment and auto start functions enabling quick measurement under best conditions

This text outlines the Auto Kerato-refracto-tonometer TRK-1P and describes basic opera-tions, troubleshooting, checking, maintenance and cleaning.To encourage the safe, efficient use of this instrument, carefully read "Displays for SafeUse" and "Safety Precautions."Also, keep this Instruction Manual in a convenient location for your future reference.

PRECAUTIONS

• This is a precision instrument, install/store it in a place with the following conditions: tempera-ture (10 to 40°C), humidity (30 to 75%) and atmospheric pressure (700 to 1060hPa). Avoiddirect exposure to sunlight.

• To ensure smooth operation, install the instrument on a leveled stand free of vibrations. Also, donot place any objects on the instrument.

• Before using the instrument, connect all cables correctly.• Use the specified source voltage.• When not in use, turn off the power and put the measuring window lens cap and dust cover on.• To ensure the correct reading, do not mar the measuring window with finger prints, dust, etc.

Also, do not touch the measuring nozzle except during cleaning.

[WARNING]When operating the instrument, be not touch the patient's eye or nose.

USER MAINTENANCE

To maintain the safety and performance of the instrument, never attempt to do maintenanceon your own. Ask our service engineer for repair except for the items specified here which canbe maintained by the user. For details, follow the instructions.

CHANGING THE FUSEThe primary fuses for the main body may be changed by a non-trained service technician.For details, refer to "REPLACING THE FUSE" on page 160.

CLEANING THE MEASURING WINDOWThe measuring window glass may be cleaned. For details, refer to "CLEANING THE MEA-SURING WINDOW GLASS" on page 156.

CLEANING THE MEASURING NOZZLE AND WINDOW INSIDE THE MEASURING NOZZLERegarding the measuring nozzle and the window glass surface inside the measuring nozzle,cleaning is allowed.For detail see "CLEANING THE NOZZLE AND CHAMBER GLASS INSIDE THE MEASUR-ING NOZZLE"on page 157.

INSTALLING THE INSTRUMENT

1 Hold the instrument body firmly at the specified positions and place it on the automaticinstrument table.For the automatic instrument table, see "OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES" on page 164.

RESETTING FROM POWER SAVE STATUS

This instrument uses a power save system for saving electric power. When the main body isnot in operation for approximately 10 minutes, power supply to the monitor is stopped. Underthe power save condition, only the POWER lamp of control panel lights and the monitorscreen is off.

In a few seconds, the monitor screen is displayed and measurement is enabled.

OPERATING THE CONTROL LEVER

Control lever operation includes coarse movement dynamically moving the measuring headand fine movement for fine adjustment. Also, by turning the control lever, the measuring headmoves up/down. The Measurement switch is located at the top of the lever.

1 Coarse movementWhen moving the measuring head back and forth or right/left, tilt the lever toward thedesired direction and slide the tilted lever as is. Coarse movement occurs while the con-trol lever is being slid.

2 Fine movementTo move the measuring head back and forth or right/left, tilt the control lever toward thedesired direction. The amount of movement is increased as the tilt angle is increased.

The time for moving to the power save status can be changed by the initial setting"SETTING THE POWER SAVE TIME" (see page 47).

7 After the alignment bar is displayed, move the main body to the patient side only a little.Auto alignment starts, and alignment and measurement is done automatically.After the measurement is finished, the measurement result is displayed on the color LCDmonitor screen.

8 When left and right eyes continuously measurement is selected, measurement of the oneeye is done, the main body moves to another eye measuring position automatically. Ifone-sided eye measurement mode is selected the measurement is end.

Auto alignment is not done while the control lever is operated.To enable a smooth auto alignment operation, do not operate the control lever.

If the control lever is operated during an auto alignment, the auto alignment isinterrupted by a vertical movement.

When the outer alignment mark is OFF, measurement cannot be done. The outeralignment mark is displayed in a few seconds, and measurement can be done.

It is also possible not to automatically go to the position for measuring the othereye after measuring one eye. For details, see "CHOOSING THE EYE TO BEMEASURED" on page 94).

9 If returning to another eye measuring position is complete, alignment operation starts andthe measurement is carried out automatically. If the measurement completes, the result isshown on the color LCD monitor screen.

If the limit icon " " appears during auto alignment, indicating that the main body hasreached the limit of movement, manually operate the unit toward the direction of align-ment.

Limit icons:: The main body exceeds the limit to the left (to the patient's right eye).: The main body exceeds the limit to the right (to the patient's left eye).

PRINTING MEASUREMENT VALUES

This instrument is equipped with a built-in printer.1 Make sure the MEASUREMENT screen is on.

2 Press the of the control panel.Measurement values on the monitor are printed out.After printing, the measurement values are cleared automatically from the screen.

MEMO

• To avoid paper jam in the printer, do not feed the paper if it is partlycut/torn or wrinkled.

• To avoid discoloring the printing paper (particularly the recording area)during storage, use a polypropylene holder and not one containingplasticizer (PVC, etc.).

• To avoid discoloring the printing paper (particularly the recording area)after pasting, use water-soluble glue and not one containing solvent.

• Since the printer paper is thermosensitive, it is not suitable for record-ing for a long period. If necessary to keep records for long, preparecopies separately.

Even after printing operation is complete and the result displayed on the screen isdeleted, the result data is stored in the instrument. So you can repeat printing outthe data by pressing the . lights when data isstored. However, it turns off at the following case.• If mode is changed to REF/KRT TONO/PACHO continuous measurement

mode or TONO/PACHO mode after measuring on REF/KRT mode only.• If mode is changed to REF/KRT TONO/PACHO continuous measurement

3 When measurement values are printed out, the paper is cut automatically.

4 Printing result data is completed, the main body returns to the initial position.

If "CLOSE PRINTER COVER" is displayed, close the printer cover till it clicks, andthen press the again.

The "ERROR" mark is not printed. Also, printing is not done if there is no measure-ment value. When a red line appears at the end of the printer paper, replace it witha new one. For details about the replacement of printer paper, see "SETTING THEPRINTER PAPER" on page 86. Additionally, a 58mm wide printer paper (example:TF50KS-E2C (Nippon Paper) is recommended.

When measurement data of both REF/KRT mode and TONO/PACHO mode areprinted at a time, the printer paper is cut once when the printing of REF/KRT datais finished. Thereafter, printing of TONO/PACHO data starts and again the paper iscut after the printing.

It is possible to suppress automatically cutting out of paper between REF/KRTmode and TONO/PACHO mode. Refer page 60 "SETTING FOR PRINTING THEMEASUREMENT RESULT" for detail.

The item of data to be printed out is selectable. Refer page 49 for detail.

If the printer paper is not cut, hold of a top corner of the paper and cut by pullingthe paper diagonally.

MEASURING THE HARD CONTACT LENS

1 Make sure of kerato measurement (R/K mode or KRT mode). If not, choose kerato mea-

CHECKING THE MEASURING ACCURACYMeasure the attached model eye and check the accuracy at regular intervals.

CLEANING THE INSTRUMENT• Dust on examination window.....................................Blow off dust using a blower.• Fingerprints and oil spots on measuring window ......Blow off dust using a blower and wipe the

surface lightly with a camera lens cleanerusing a clean gauze.

CLEANING THE MEASURING WINDOW GLASS• To ensure auto alignment and correct measurement values, clean the measuring window

glass after each day's work.• Clean the glass when "CLEAN THE MEASURING WINDOW GLASS" is displayed on the

monitor screen.

1 Prepare ethanol.

2 Using a blower, remove dust and dirt from the glass surface.

3 Moisten the applicator with ethanol.

Keep this instrument free of dust. When not in use, put the measuring lens capand dust cover on.

When not in use, turn off the .

CLEANING THE NOZZLE AND CHAMBER GLASS INSIDE THE MEASURING NOZZLE• If there is any foreign matter on or around the measuring nozzle, it may enter and damage

the patient's eye during the measurement. If any, clean the nozzle.• When the window glass inside the nozzle becomes stained, it makes the fixation target

unclear, causing errors in auto alignment and measurement values. If the fixation target isunclear or measurement values with parentheses are frequent, clean the window glassinside the nozzle.

• Clean the glass when "CLEAN THE CHAMBER GLASS" is displayed on the monitorscreen.

1 Prepare the ethanol.

2 Moisten the applicator with ethanol.

Repeat the cleaning operation several times, using a new applicator each time, tilloil spots are removed from the window glass.

When the measuring window glass becomes stained "CLEAN THE MEASURINGWINDOW GLASS" is displayed on the monitor screen.

CAUTIONClean the measuring window glass, measuring nozzle and thewindow glass inside the measuring nozzle using ethanol.Other chemicals may cause damage to the patient's eye duringmeasurement.

• Do not apply unreasonable force to the measuring nozzle while clean-ing.

• To avoid problems, do not leave the cotton fibers inside.• Be sure to use only the attached applicator.

3 Insert the applicator into the nozzle, lightly touch the glass surface, and turn the applicatora few times.

4 Use a new applicator and wipe the glass surface in a similar manner; repeat this a fewtimes.

5 Cleaning is completed when the grease is thoroughly removed. Please confirm normaloperation by "Air check" function on menu screen. If stains cannot be removed easily, callyour dealer.

ADJUSTING THE MONITOR SCREEN• Although the instrument is adjusted for optimal screen conditions before shipment, a screen

readjustment may be required due to vibrations during transportation.• To adjust brightness, use the brightness control below the color LCD monitor.

The used applicator contains grease and it only scatters grease if used again; thelight transmittance is not improved at all. Be sure to replace the applicator and usea new one for each of these repeated cleaning operations.

When the window glass inside the nozzle becomes stained, it makes the fixationtarget unclear and "CLEAN THE CHAMBER GLASS" is displayed on the monitorscreen.

PRINTER PAPER JAM

1 Press the printer cover OPEN button, open the printer cover, and take out the jammedpaper with the paper retainer lever fully released.

CAUTION To avoid potential injury, do not touch the printer body while theprinter is in operation or when replacing the printer paper.

CAUTION To avoid failure or potential injury, do not open the printer coverwhile the printer is in operation.

CAUTIONTo avoid potential injury in case of malfunction, including apaper jam, be sure to shut off the power before attempting torepair it.

MEMO• If paper jam occurs inside the printer, printing is not done, and, using

the printer further without removing the jammed paper may cause afailure.


REPLACING THE FUSE

1 Make sure the power is OFF and the power cable is unplugged.

2 Press the fuse holder with a screwdriver and turn it counterclockwise.The fuse holder can be taken out.

3 Replace the fuse with the attached fuse.

4 Press the fuse holder lightly with a screwdriver and turn it clockwise.The fuse holder is now reset.

WARNINGWhen changing the fuse, turn off the power, and disconnectthe power cord. Use the rated fuse.

The TRK-1P is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF distur-bances are controlled. The customer or the user of the TRK-1P can help prevent electromag-netic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and mobile RFcommunications equipment (transmitters) and the TRK-1P as recommended below, accordingto the maximum output power of the communications equipment.
