REF-108 Hand Held Brix Refractometer

The REF-108 developed for working with sugar related liquids (fruit juices, honey, soft drinks, wine) , help monitor and control sugar concentrations in foods and beverages. Whether users are checking the" ripeness" of fruit in the field, verifying product quality after harvesting, or controlling concentrations during processing and packaging, refractometers provide critical information to ensure product quality. It is also commonly used for controlling the concentration of various industrial fluids (cutting lubricants and flux rinsing compounds). Which model to chose is according to the concentration in the liquids and the parameter of refractometer. SERIES:

OPERATING INSTRUCTION: Step 1 Open the cover plate ( 1), Clean the refraction prism (2) carefully with soft flannelette, Be careful not to scrape the refraction prism surface. Setp 2 Put some drops of solution on the refrection prism surface and then cover the cover plate ( 1) slowly so as to let the solution be all over the prism surface. Setp 3 Adjust the cover plate (1) against the light soure or bright place. Turn the visual range ring (7) until the graduated lines can be seen clearly. The readings of the demarcation line between brightness and darkness just indicate the sugar content in the solution. For modle REF 108 . We can choose the range 0- 50% or 50 - 80% by rotateing the knob (6) .

Put several drops of distilled water on the surface of the refraction prism(2) . Adjust the adjusting screw (4) until the demarcation line between brightness and darkness is just on the graduated line 0%; Then proceed on the measurement of the testing object, and the reading thus obtained is the correct one. Another methods for obtain the exact value is consulte with the temperature correction table, A temperature correction value must be added to (or subtract from) the scale reading.

The Attached Temperature Correction Table for readings of sugar content measuring gage.

REF-107 Hand Held Refractometer

This model can be used for measuring the sugar content of cocentrated fruit - .juice, condensed milk, liquid sugar and jam. It has a largest measurement range than any other model of Brix refractometer. It has three scales: No.1, No.2 and No.3

1. Cover plate 2. Knob 3. Adjusting ring 4. Entrance light prism 5. Eyepiece

DESCRIPTION Model REF-107 has three scale to cover the range of 0 to 90%, scale one is 0 to 42%, scale two is 42 to 71 %,

scale three is 71 to 90%. The wide range substances with unknown concentrations.

METHOD OF OPERATION 1. Aim the front end of the refractometer to the direction of bright light, and adjust the adjusting ring of diopter 5

until the reticle can be seen clearly.

2. Adjustment of null

The null of this instrument has been adjusted before it is out of factory.

3. Open the entrance light prism, clean the surface of prism by soft

cotton flannel, drop 1 - 2 drops of solution to be measured. Close the

entrance light prism, press it lightly, then read the corresponding scale

of light and dark boundary, the reading is the brix of measured solution. 4. If the light is not sufficient, you could rotate and adjust 1.

5. The model has three scales, you could get them by rotating 2.

6. When measure solution of high concentration, there would be chromatism in the

view, you could reduce it by rotating 3.

7. After measurement, clean away the adherend on the surface of prism and cover

plate by moist gauze.

REF-211/212 Hand Held Salinity Refractometer

REF-211/212 are designed for testing the concentration of salt water and brine. Its triple scale provides a direct reading of the specific gravity and concentration ( Parts per Thousand) of salt in water and The RHS-1 0 proves itself valuable for agriculture, food processing and wildlife management. This instrument is equipped with Automatic Compensation system making it ideal for field use. Which model is to be chosen according to the concentration in the liquids and the parameter of refractometer.

Operation Steps:

Step 1.

Open daylight plate, and place 2-3 drops of distilled water on the main prism. Close the daylight plate so the water spreads across the entire surface of the prism without air bubbles or dry spots. Allow the sample to test on the prism for approximate. 30 seconds before going to step #2. (THIS ALLOWS THE SAMPLE TO ADJUST TO THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE OF THE REFRACTOMETER.) Step2.

Hold daylight plate in the direction of a light source and look into the eyepiece. You will see a circular field with graduations down the center (you may have to focus the eyepiece to clearly see the graduations). The upper portion ofthe field should be blue, while the lower portion should the white. (The pictures showed here and showed in step 3. & step 4. are only as reference, The right specific scale is listed in the product.)

Step 3. Using distilled water as a sample, look into the eyepiece and turn the Calibration Screw until the boundary between the upper blue field and the lower white field meet exactly on the zero scale, such as showed in the picture. That is the end of calibration. Make sure ambient room temperature is correct for the solution you are using (20°C for our solution that is 68 OF). When working temperature ofthe room or environment (not the sample) changes by more than 5 of , we recommend recalibrating to maintain accuracy and reproducibility. If the instrument is equipped with Automatic Temperature Compensation system, the ambient working temperature of the room must be 20°C (68 OF) whenever the instrument is recalibrated. Once calibrated, shifts in ambient temperature within the acceptable range (10°C -30oe ) should not affect accuracy. Step 4.

Do step 1. using the specimen of liquids which will be measured as the substitution of distil led water. Then do step 2 and step 3. When do step 3again, you can take the reading where the boundary line of blue and white cross the graduated scale. The scale will provide a direct reading of the concentration

Warning - Maintenance l. Accurate measurement depends on careful calibrati on. Follow the instru ctions above closely. Note: Shifts in ambient room temperature of the prism prior to measurement. The pri sm and sample must be at the same temperature for accurate results. 2. Do not expose the instrument to damp working conditions, and do not immerse the instrument in water . If the instrum ent becomes foggy, water has entered the body. Call a qualified service technician or contact your dealer. 3. Do not measure abrasive or corrosive chemicals with this instrum ent. They can damage the prism's'coating:-- 4. Clean the instrument between each measurement using a soft, damp cloth. Failure to clean the prism on a regular basis will lead to inaccurate results and damage to the pri sm's coating. 5. This is an optical instrum ent. It r equir es careful handling and storage. Failure to do so can result in damage to the optical components and its basic stru ctur e. With care, this instrument will provid e years of reliable service.
