MATH READING WORD WORK SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
May 28 (Day 41)
Play “I Spy” with a family member, using vocabulary heavier, lighter, longer, shorter, taller, bigger and smaller. (NC.K.MD.1) How can you use measurable attributes (words to describe weight, length, size and height) to compare your toys? Collect 2 toys from your room. Pick up the first toy and describe its weight to a family member. Pick up the second toy and describe its weight to a family member. Use the sentence frame to compare the weight of the toys, “The ____ (first toy) is ____ (weight) than the ____ (second toy).” Use the sentence frame to compare the length of the toys, “The ____ (first toy) is ____ (length) than the ____ (second toy). Use the sentence frame to compare the size of the toys, “The ____ (first toy) is ____ (size) than the ____ (second toy).” (NC.K.MD.2) In your math journal or on a piece of paper, copy and complete the sentence frames. (NC.K.MD.2)
Optional: Watch the reading lesson video for Day 41 (https://bit.ly/KModules). Listen to the book “Tools” on pg. 13. ● Think and talk about some of
the tools you use every day. ● Draw and label a picture
showing a tool you use at home. See pg. 14. (W.K.6)
Optional: Watch the word work instructional video for Day 41 (http://bit.ly/kwordwork). Hoppin’ Thursdays Using High Frequency Words: Create word cards using the Kinder Sight Word List with one word on each card. Tape the cards on the floor in a fun pattern that allows enough room to hop like a frog or jump from word to word. Read each sight word, then hop or jump to the next card. If you get the word wrong, go back to the beginning, and start again. See pg. 16. (RF.K.4c)
Social Studies Topic: Past and Present In My Family Past means a time gone by. Present means right now. What has happened in our pasts has an effect on our lives today. For instance, if my family moved across town last year, I will have a new school and friends this year. Sometimes we are excited about the changes in our families, but sometimes change can be challenging. Activity: On a piece of paper divided in half, draw and write about two changes that have happened in your family during your lifetime. These could include things like a new sibling, a new home, or a parents’ new job. Talk with an adult about how these changes impact your family today. (K.H.1.2) Optional Enrichment Resource: Sesame Street: Changes Song [2:19] https://bit.ly/3bWmLyJ
May 29 (Day 42)
Complete Warm Up Day 42 on pg. 5. (NC.K.MD.3) Gather 10 different toys or shoes from around your home. Sort them into two piles by attribute like size, shape or color. Describe how you sorted to a family member. Count the number of toys or shoes in each pile. How many are in each pile? Tell a family member which pile has more and which pile has less. (NC.K.MD.3) Sort the same 10 toys or shoes a different way, using a different attribute. Tell a family member how many are in each pile. (NC.K.MD.3) Complete Day 42 Exit Ticket on pg. 6. (NC.K.MD.3)
Optional: Watch the reading lesson video for Day 42 (https://bit.ly/KModules). Listen to the book “Tools” on pg. 13. ● Think and talk about some of
the tools you use every day. ● Draw and label a picture
showing a tool you use in school. See pg. 15. (W.K.6)
Optional: Watch the word work instructional video for Day 42 (http://bit.ly/kwordwork). Rainbow Write Using Cycle List 24: Write each word first with a pencil. Then trace over each word three times with a colored pencil or marker. Use a different color each time to create a “rainbow”. See pg. 16. (RF.K.4a)
Social Studies Topic: Special Days in My Life Special life events may produce lasting effects. Think about special days you have had or events that have been important to you. These could include things as big as a trip or going to a camp, or smaller like a birthday or a memorable time with someone you love. As we remember these things we often find that they’re the favorite things about our life. Activity: On a piece of paper divided in four sections, draw and write about four days or occasions that have been special for you. Share your work with an adult and tell them all about it. (K.H.1.2) Optional Enrichment Resource: My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music [1:47] https://bit.ly/2yk4sET
June 1 (Day 43)
Complete Warm Up for Day 43 on pg. 5. (NC.K.MD.3) Gather 15 different socks from around your home. Sort them into two piles by attribute like size or color. Describe how you sorted the socks to a family member. Count the number of socks in each pile. How many are in each pile? Tell a family member which pile has more socks and which pile has less socks. (NC.K.MD.3) In your math journal, copy the chart to the right. At the top of each column, label or draw a picture to show how you sorted the socks. Then, draw pictures of the socks in each of your piles. Write the number of socks at the bottom of each column. (NC.K.MD.3) Complete Day 43 Exit Ticket on pg. 6. (NC.K.MD.3)
Optional: Watch the reading lesson video for Day 43 (https://bit.ly/KModules). Listen to the book “Tools” on pg. 13. ● Think and talk about how the
tools in the story are similar? How are they different?
● Use the journal page to circle the tools that you might use inside and draw an “X” on the tools you might use outside. See pg. 15. (RI.K.3)
Optional: Watch the word work instructional video for Day 43 (http://bit.ly/kwordwork). Spell the Sounds Using Cycle 24 Words: Have a sibling, parent, or friend call out each word to you. Listen carefully to the sounds and spell each word one-by-one on a blank sheet of paper. See pg. 16. (RF.K.4a)
Social Studies Topic: Some Things I’m Able to Do As you have grown up you have learned to do many new things. We all remember the first time a baby talks or walks. With each stage of your life you have learned something new - and been really proud of yourself for it. All you have learned has become a part of who you are and what makes you special. Activity: On a piece of paper divided in three sections, draw and write about something new you could do as a baby, a toddler and now as a kindergartener. (K.H.1.2) Optional Enrichment Resource: Sometimes You Fly by Katherine Applegate Storytime 107 [5:56] https://bit.ly/2KS2m1Q

June 2 (Day 44)
Complete Warm Up for Day 44 on pg. 5. (NC.K.MD.3) Collect a handful of loose coins. Sort them. Tell a family member how you sorted them. Count the coins in each pile to tell how many. (NC.K.MD.3) You will complete the Sorting Activity on pg. 7. First, cut the picture cards apart below the chart. Sort them into the correct columns. Then, write the total number of picture cards in each column at the bottom. Circle the number that shows more. (NC.K.MD.3) Complete Day 44 Exit Ticket on pg. 6. (NC.K.MD.3) Optional: Log into DreamBox and continue working for 15 minutes.
Optional: Watch the reading lesson video for Day 44 (https://bit.ly/KModules). Listen to the book “I Can Help” on pg. 14. ● Think and talk about how the
boy helped in the story. ● Draw and label to show how
the boy helped in the story. See pg. 15. (RL.K.3)

Science Topic: Changing Weather With adult permission, add water to 3 clear, plastic cups or containers. Carefully drop several small objects (dice, beans, wad of paper etc.) into each of the cups. Observe each of the objects in the cups. Do the objects look the same in the water as when they did dry or do they look different (changed)? Next predict or guess what will happen to the cup, object and water if one cup is put in a sunny window, one in the refrigerator, and one in the freezer. With adult permission put each cup into each specific place. Come back to them later in the day or before bed tonight. Answer the following questions: What stayed the same? What has changed? What made it change? What words are you using to describe each cup? Are these words the same words we use when we describe weather? Draw a picture that shows each of the cups and add describing words. (K.E.1.1, K.E.1.3)
June 3 (Day 45)
Review: Complete Warm Up for Day 45 on pg. 5. (NC.K.CC.1) Review: Turtles on a Log- You need the Turtles on a Log mat and turtle cards on pg. 7. Cut the cards apart before you begin. “There are 10 turtles. Some are sunning on a log and the others are swimming in the water. Find all of the different ways that 10 turtles could be sunning on a log and swimming in the water. Write all of the combinations in your math journal or on paper.” (NC.K.OA.3) Complete Day 45 Exit Ticket on pg. 6. (NC.K.OA.1, NC.K.OA.3) Optional: Log into DreamBox and continue working for 15 minutes.
Optional: Watch the reading lesson video for Day 45 (https://bit.ly/KModules). Listen to the book “I Can Help” on pg. 14. ● Think about what kinds of tools

using each time he helps. ● Draw and label a picture of you
helping using a tool. Write a sentence about it. See pg. 16. (W.K.6)
Optional: Watch the word work instructional video for Day 45 (http://bit.ly/kwordwork). Kaboom: Write your Cycle 24 words on tiny slips of paper. Also, write the word Kaboom. Put all your slips into a cup. Pull the slips out one-by-one and read them aloud. If you get the word Kaboom, yell it out!! Put all your slips back in the cup and start again. See pg. 16. (RF.K.2, RF.K.4a)
Science Topic: Changing Seasons Tell an adult how each cup of water and the objects changed during yesterday’s activity. Tell about all of the changes that happened. Together discuss our four seasons. How are they like each cup’s location and why? Example answers - Refrigerator: Spring and/or Fall because it is cool. Freezer: Winter because it is so cold. Sun: Summer because it is the hottest place. Discuss how people change what they do during different seasons. Draw a picture and write or dictate a sentence to tell how people change what they do during each season. The example below should help you to think of your own ideas. “In the Fall, I wear a jacket because the air is cool but in the Summer my friends and I play in the pool because the sun makes the air and water warm.” (K.E.1.1, K.E.1.3)

Science Topic: Changing Shadows Have you ever noticed that when it is sunny outside there are often shadows on the sidewalk. When it is very cloudy there are no shadows on the sidewalk. Discuss with an adult why this is true. If you said: Clouds block the light from the sun, then you are correct. Today we will use a light source… a table lamp or even a flashlight as our sun. Be careful as lights can get hot or break. With an adult’s help, pretend to be the sun. Shine your light at an object and then try to find its shadow. Notice where the light is. Is it above the object, behind the object or in front of the object? When you make a shadow, does moving the light up, down, closer to or further away from the object cause the shadow to change? Repeat 3 -5 times with different objects. Then draw your favorite shaped shadow, the

Optional: Watch the word work instructional video for Day 49 (http://bit.ly/kwordwork). Kaboom: Write your Cycle 25 words on tiny slips of paper. Also, write the word Kaboom. Put all your slips into a cup. Pull the slips out one-by-one and read them aloud. If you get the word Kaboom, yell it out!! Put all your slips back in the up and start again. See pg. 20. (RF.K.4a)
Science Topic: Changing a Bus Stop In the summer it is often very sunny. Discuss with an adult a time you stood in the hot sun for a long time. How did you feel? Did you get thirsty? Now think about a time you stood outside on a hot, sunny day but you had a shady tree to stand under. How did you feel? Did you get as thirsty? Were you as hot? Discuss with an adult why it is cooler standing in the shade. Now pretend you are a bus driver and one of your bus stops has no shade for the students. It has been sunny and hot. You are afraid it is too hot for students to wait there. Design a shade shelter for the bus stop. Draw your shelter idea, add the direction of the sun’s light. What materials will you use and why? If you have time, build a model of the shelter. You may use blocks, legos, clay, paper, or recycled materials. Redesign it as needed. Share your shade structure idea and take a picture if possible. (K.E.1.1, K.P.1.1, K.P.2.2)
SPECIALS - Choose at least one activity to complete each day. Your well-being is important to us. Please do not participate in physical activity if you are not feeling well.
❏Read about someone important in a book or using the World Book Encyclopedia. Create a speech for your family to tell why this person should be on MyHero.com.
❏Make up a song about your favorite food. ❏List 10 things that make you think of the color
BLUE (or other colors).
❏Express in your drawing the happiest time that you had this year.
❏For 60 seconds, clear your mind & only focus on
your breathing. If your mind starts to wander, bring your attention back to your breathing.
❏Lay on your stomach resting on your forearms. Crawl across the room dragging your body as if you’re moving under barbed wire.
❏Google search John Phillip Sousa and listen to
one of his songs. Can you keep the beat and march with him?
