EnsurethattheinstallerhasfullycompletedtheBenchmarkChecklistlocatedontheinsidebackpagesoftheinstallationinstructionssuppliedwiththeproductandthatyouhavesignedittosaythatyouhavereceivedafullandclearexplanationofitsoperation.TheinstallerislegallyrequiredtocompleteacommissioningchecklistasameansofcomplyingwiththeappropriateBuildingRegulations(EnglandandWales).

TheFlexicomsxrangeofboilersaredesignedforuseaspartofasealedwatercentralheatingsystemwithfullypumpedcirculation.Thepump,expansionvesselandassociatedsafetydevicesareallfittedwithintheboiler.

Oncethecontrolsareset,theboileroperatesautomatically.

IntelligentcontrolsareavailableasaccessoriesfromGlow-worm.

ContactyourInstallerorGlow-wormsalesforfurtherinformation.

TheFlexicomsxboilerisanappliancethatusescondensingtechnology,whichrecoversheatfromthefluegases,thisoperatingprinciple,consumeslessenergyandcontributestothereductionofyourhouseholdCO2emissions.

Thisapplianceisaroom-sealedtypeequippedwithafluesystemforairsupplyandtheremovalofcombustionproducts.Thisfluesystemoffersthepossibilitytoinstalltheapplianceinanyroomwithouttheneedforadditionalventilation.

5 Guarantee / Responsibility

5.1 Detailed guarantee

ThankyouforinstallinganewGlow-wormapplianceinyourhome.

Glow-wormappliancesaremanufacturedtotheveryhigheststandardsowearepleasedtoofferourcustomersaComprehensiveGuarantee.

Thisproductisguaranteedfor24monthsfromthedateofinstallationor30monthsfromthedateofmanufacture,whicheveristheshorter,forpartsandlabour.

Thesecondyearofthepartsguarantee,fromthebeginningofthe13thmonthonwardsafterinstallationormanufacture,isconditionalupontheboilerhavingbeenservicedbyacompetentpersonapprovedatthetimebytheHealthandSafetyExecutive,inaccordancewiththemanufacturer’srecommendations.Westronglyrecommendregularservicingofyourgasappliance,butwheretheconditionisnotmet,anychargeablesparepartsorcomponentsissuedwithintheapplicableguaranteeperiodstillbenefitfroma12monthwarrantyfromthedateofissuebythemanufacturer.

5.2 Appliance use / manufacturer responsibility

Servicing/maintenanceshouldbecarriedoutbyacompetentperson approvedatthetimebytheHealthandSafetyExecutive,inaccordancewiththerulesinforceinthecountriesofdestination.

Theguaranteeisapplicableontheconditionthat:

8.2 Switching On and Off

Switching on

- Checkthatthegasserviceisolationvalveontheapplianceisopen.

Do not operate the boiler without water.

• Makesurethat:

- Theappliancehaselectricalpower,

- Thegasserviceisolationvalveisopen.

- Thedigitaldisplayindicatesthesystempressure,whichshouldreadatleast0.7bar(recommended1.0bar).

If you are in any doubt about the boiler being filled with water contact your installer or Glow-worm's own service organisation using the telephone number shown in the chapter " Contact your after-sales organisation".

• Press"MODE"buttonandholdfor2secondstoenterCentralHeatingfunction.

• Centralheatingfunctionisindicatedbyaflashing .

• After5secondsofinactivitythedisplaywillresettoindicatethewatertemperature.

• ToselecttheCentralHeatingtemperature(38-82oC)pressthe"+or-"selectorbuttons.

• Theboilerwilloperateautomatically.

• NOTE:ThedisplaywillindicatetheHeatingsystemwatertemperatureorafaultcode(seesectionFaultFinding).

• Thecontrolpanelwillflashanddisplayallitsdigits.Itwillthenreturntothedefaultdisplayanddependingontheselectedoperationandcontrols,displaythetemperaturesettingsandwaterpressure.

Switching off

• Pressthe"-"selectorbuttontoturnOFFtheCentralHeating.

Alltheappliancefunctionswillbeswitchedoff,exceptfrostprotection.

If you intend to leave your property empty for a prolonged period, refer to the Appliance Safety Devices section.

9 Fault Finding

9.1 Electrical circuit interruption

Theboilerwillnotworkwithoutanelectricalsupplyandnormaloperationoftheboilershouldresumewhentheelectricalsupplyisrestored.Iftheboilerdoesnotresumenormaloperation,checktheexternalcontrols.Itmaybenecessarytorestartyourappliance.

• Torestarttheboiler,presstheresetbutton,seechapter"Howtouseyourappliance►Overview".

9.2 Appliance fails to light

TheLCDwilldisplayaflashing'F'andcodenumber,


Ifanyfaultpersists,andyourappliancestilldoes not work, leave it switched off andcontactyourcompetentperson.

Like all condensing boilers it will produce a plume of condensation from the flue terminal in cool weather. This is due to the high efficiency and hence low flue gas temperature of the boiler. It is normal and not a fault indication.

10 Appliance safety devices

10.1 Boiler Shutdown

Theboilersoftwareisdesignedtorecognisethepotentialforanoverheatlockoutandwillshutdownbeforethishappens.


Iftheboilerfailstoresumenormaloperationandallexternalcontrolsarecallingforheat,thencallyourInstallation/ServicingcompanyorGlow-wormservice.

10.2 Protecting against frost

Appliance Protecion

Incaseoftheriskoffrost:

• Makesurethattheelectricalandgassupplytotheapplianceisturnedon.

• Foranabsenceofseveraldays,youcanleavetheappliancetorunnormally.

Theappliancehasabuiltinfrostprotectiondevicethatprotectstheboilerfromfreezing.WiththegasandelectricsuppliesONandirrespectiveofanyroomthermostatsetting,thefrostprotectiondevicewilloperatethepumpwhenthetemperatureoftheboilerwaterfallsbelow8OC.Atimerisusedsothatthetemperaturecanbecheckedperiodically.After10minutesthepumpwillbestoppedifthetemperatureishigherthan10OCorhasalreadyreached35OC.Theburnerwillactivateiftheboilertemperaturedoesnotreach10OCafter30minutesoratanytimeifthetemperaturedropsto5OC.Theburnerwillswitchoffwhenthetemperaturereaches35OC.

Theappliancealwayshasfrostprotectionactivewhenthepowerandgassupplyareon.

System Protection

Theboileralonecannotensurethattheinstallationisprotectedagainstfrost.NOTE:Anyotherexposedareasofthesystemshouldbeprotectedbyaseparatefrostthermostat.

Incaseofprolongedabsence,wherepowertothedwellingandtheboilerisswitchedoff,contactyourInstallation/ServicingcompanyorGlow-wormServicetohavetheinstallationdrainedortohavetheheatingcircuitprotectedbyaddingananti-freezespeciallydesignedforheatingsystems.

CAUTION: Your domestic water circuit (hot and cold) is not protected by the boiler.

10.3 Condensate Drain Blockage

Asasafetyfeaturetheboilerwillstopworkingifthecondensatedrainbecomesblocked.Duringfreezingconditionsthismaybeduetotheformingoficeinthecondensedrainexternaltothehouse.

• Releaseaniceblockagebytheuseofwarmclothsonthepipe.

Theboilershouldthenrestart.

• ContactyourInstallation/ServicingcompanyorGlow-wormserviceifthefaultpersists.

10.4 Safety Discharge Valve

Thesafetydischargevalveanddischargepipeisfittedtotheboiler.

• Ifthereisanydischargefromthepipe,switchofftheboilerelectricalsupply,thencallyourInstallation/ServicingcompanyorGlow-wormservice.

11 Appliance maintenance and servicing

11.1 Cleaning

Before cleaning turn the appliance off.

Theappliancecasingcanbecleanedusingamildliquiddetergentwithadampcloth,thenadryclothtopolish.

Do not use any form of abrasive or solvent cleaner as you may damage the paintwork.

11.2 Regular servicing

Regularservicingoftheapplianceisimportanttotheprolonged,safeandefficientuseofyourappliance.

Incorrect or inadequate servicing can severely affect the safety of the appliance and can lead to injury.

Werecommendthatyourapplianceisservicedeveryyear.
