CARTRIDGEIX240 Cartridge Film

Visual Exposure Indicator• Only cartridges with the

(unexposed) visual exposureindicator can be used with thiscamera.

• When a cartridge with other than thevisual exposure indicator is

loaded, the camera will rewind thefilm and set the cartridge to(exposed).

• Take along plenty of film cartridgeswhen traveling to foreign countriesand other areas where cartridgepurchasing may be difficult.

• Do not forcibly move the visualexposure indicator because this maydamage the cartridge. Using adamaged cartridge can result incamera trouble.

LOADING THE BATTERY

Use one 3V lithium battery (CR2).1. Slide the battery compartment

cover release and open thecover

2. Load the battery and align theand ends correctly.

3. Turn the lens barrier switch toturn on the camera. Check thebattery power on the LCD panel (p.10). About 15 rolls of film can beused with one new 3V lithiumbattery (when the flash is used onhalf of pictures).

Notes:• Dispose of used batteries in the battery

recycling boxes at stores selling batteries.• if lithium batteries are not fully discharged,

protect them against short-circuiting (e.g., bytaping the contacts) before disposal.

CHECKING THE BATTERY

Turn the lens barrier switch to turnon the camera.

Display: lights.Meaning: Battery is OK. You canshoot.

Display: lights.Meaning: Battery power is low and

should be replaced with anew battery.

Display: blinks.Meaning: Battery power is dead and

should be replaced with anew battery.

Battery Handling• Observe the precautionary remarks

written on the batteries.• When the camera is not used for an

extended period of time, remove thebattery.

• Keep spare batteries on hand whengoing on a long trip or to a cold area.

• Sweat, oil, and so on can prevent abattery's terminals from makingelectrical contact. To avoid this, wipeboth terminals before loading thebattery.

LOADING THE CARTRIDGEFILM

Use unexposed negative-color IX240cartridge film (ISO 100~400).1. Make sure that is displayed on the

camera's exposure counter. Turn thecartridge cover release to open thecartridge cover

2. Insert a cartridge with the(unexposed) visual exposure indicatorand close the cartridge cover , Thefilm will automatically advance to thefirst frame and"I" will appear in theexposure counter• If starts blinking after the cartridgehas been loaded, reload the cartridge.The battery must already be loadedbefore you load a cartridge.

• If you remove the battery before theroll of film has been fully exposed, theexposure counter returns to . (Youwill be able to continue shooting,however.)12

1. Turn the lens barrier switch tto turn onthe camera.

2. Look through the viewfinder and positionthe autofocus frame on your subject.

3. Press the shutter release buttonhalfway to make sure the flash green lamp

lights. (The focus and exposure arelocked on the subject.)• When the green lamp is blinking, the

flash is being recharged and the shuttercannot be released.

4. Compose the shot within the picture frame-. Press the shutter release button

to take the picture,• Working distance:0.9m(3ft)~ .• Always turn off the camera when you

finish taking pictures.

WARNING: SERIOUS EYE DAMAGE MAYRESULT FROM LOOKING DIRECTLY ATTHE SUN THROUGH THE VIEWFINDER.

UNLOADING THECARTRIDGE FILM

1. The film will be rewoundautomatically when the end of theroll is reached

2. Wait until the motor stops and "E"and the cartridge mark start blinking

in the exposure counter. Thenopen the cartridge cover

3. Remove the cartridge .Thecartridge visual exposure Indicatorwill be set to (exposed).•The camera will not operate untilthe rewound cartridge is removed.

4. To rewind the film before the end ofthe roll, press the mid-roll rewindbutton using the camera strapring tip or anything equivalent. Thecartridge will be set to (exposed).

SETTING THE PRINT TYPE

Set the print type selector switch to thedesired type: C, H or P.

Always keep the print type selectorswitch set correctly. The print typesetting is optically recorded on the film.The number of exposures does notchange even when the print type ischanged.

USING THE FLASH

Press the flash mode button toselect the appropriate mode for theshooting conditions or your require-ments.1. AUTO Auto Flash: This mode is used

normally. The flash fires auto-matically in dark places.

2. AUTO Red-Eye Reduction: Mini-mizes the effect which causeseyes to appear red in pictures.

3. Flash Off: Use this mode whenyou do not want the flash to fireeven in dark places.

4. Fill-In: Use this mode whenyou want the flash to fire re-gardless of lighting conditions.

5. Night Scene Flash: Lights thesubject in the foreground with anight scene in the background. 17

• In the Flash Off and Night SceneFlash modes, use a tripod to preventcamera-shake.

• When the flash mark is displayedon the LCD panel and the greenlamp blinks, the flash is being re-charged and the shutter does notrelease.

• Turning off the camera restores theAuto Flash mode except when thecamera is set to the Red-Eye Re-duction Flash mode.

SELFTIMER

Attach the camera to a tripod or similarsupport.1. Press the selftimer burton to

display2. Aim at your subject, and press the

shutter release button . The selft-imer signal will light, and theshutter will be released about 12seconds later. The signal startsblinking right before the shutter re-leases.• When the green lamp is blinking,the flash is being recharged andthe selftimer does not work.

• To cancel the selftimer while oper-ating, again press the selftimerbutton or turn the camera off.

• Focus and exposure are lockedwhen the selftimer button ispressed. Do not press the selftimerbutton while you are in front of thecamera. 19

1. Do not leave the camera in anyplace exposed to excessive heat,humidity, or direct sunlight — forexample, in a car or on the beach.

2. Do not expose the camera toformalin or naphthalene.

3. If the camera gets wet, wipe it witha dry towel. The salt in seawatercan be especially damaging.

4. Do not use organic solvents, suchas alcohol or paint thinner whencleaning the camera.

5. Do not leave the camera on or neara television, refrigerator, or otherappliance with a magnetic field.

6. Do not expose the camera to dustor sand as this could cause seriousdamage.

7. Do not shake or shock the camera.• Keep the camera in a well-ventilated

place.• Do not expose the camera to

extreme heat (over 40°C/104°F) or toextreme cold (below -5°C/23°F). Lowtemperatures, even within this range,may sometimes cause deteriorationin battery performance, temporarilydisabling the camera.

• When transporting the camera froma cold place to a warm place or inthe event of a sudden temperaturechange, put the camera into a plasticbag. This allows the camera'stemperature to change slowly. Oncethe camera has adjusted to the newtemperature, you can remove it fromthe bag and use it.

• Avoid leaving the camera unused forlong periods of time. This can causemold to grow on the camera as wellas other problems. Try to press theshutter release button and check theoperation of the camera before use.

• Some airport X-ray machines candamage the film in your camera. Tryto avoid passing your camerathrough these machines. Give it tothe security officer for manualinspection.

• This camera is not suitable forprofessional use or for use underextreme conditions.
