Instrumentation & Control (CI) Engineer

2.0 JOB DESCRIPTION

A control and instrumentation engineer is responsible for designing, developing, installing,

managing and/or maintaining equipment which is used to monitor and control engineering systems,

machinery and processes.

The main objective of the work of control and instrument engineers is to ensure that these systems and

processes operate effectively, efficiently and safely. They usually work for the companies who

manufacture and supply the equipment or for the companies who use it. Control and instrumentation

engineers will develop skills in specific control disciplines such as advanced process control (APC),distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and supervisory control and

data acquisition (SCADA). The use of these disciplines will depend on the exact nature of individual

job roles.

Control and instrument engineers need a thorough understanding of the operational processes of an

organisation and have a truly multidisciplinary role, working closely with colleagues across a number

of functions, including operations, purchasing and design. Ability to tune process control loops

employing methods such as process identification, PID loop tuning, Lambda tuning, loop simulation

using software such as Program CC or Matlab. Position requires thorough knowledge of

instrumentation design and engineering techniques, as well as CAD and graphics skills. Responsible

to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and

adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devise new approaches to problems,

and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for

compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices.

5.1 LEVEL 1 (INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL FITTER)

5.1.1 JOB DESCRIPTION

An instrumentation and control fitter us designated to calibrate, test, repair, trouble

shoot and maintain various devices and control loops, they also need to read and use

the instrumentation and control drawings.

5.1.2 JOB FUNCTION (RESPONSIBILITY/DUTY)

5.1.2 (a) Calibrate, test, and repair various devices and Control Loops.

5.2.2 (a) Prepare detailed drawings of parts and assemblies from layout, designs and

working drawings including necessary projections, sectional views and standardspecifications and corporate standards

5.2.2 (b) Create, revise and maintain manufacturing and assembly drawings and 3D

models of component systems

5.2.2 (c) Perform basic design modifications to current component assemblies

and use the instrumentation and control drawings. They are involve in participating

continuous process improvement, cost control and quality policies. They also need to

assist in training apprentice welder.


5.3.2 (a) Calibrate, test troubleshoot and repair various devices and control loops

5.3.2 (b) Troubleshoots and maintain relay logic system, PLCs, turbine controls,

compressors surge flow totalizing loops, air drying system, local and remote

annunciation, gas/oil fired heaters and re-boilers and valves of verifying design and

PFD and P&ID.
