J1.2 Thermal construction - general

• Insulation must comply with AS/NZS 4859.1

- Bulk insulation to be tested by a NATA certified lab

- Certification from an independent accredited organisation - not just a statement from a manufacturer or supplier

J1.2 Thermal construction - general

• Insulation must be against stud member

- Specify 600mm wide insulation to fill steel stud cavity- Standard batts are 580mm wide for timber frame

• Form a continuous thermal barrier with ceilings, walls, floors

- Include insulation under box gutters

• Reflective insulation must be installed with the necessary airspace to achieve the required R-Value

- R-value of reflective insulation is calculated, based on specific criteriathat is particular to each building system

J1.2 Thermal construction - general

• Bulk insulation must be installed so that it maintains its thickness, other than where it is compressed between cladding and supporting members

• Metal sheet roofing fixed to metal purlins that does not have a ceiling lining or has a ceiling lining fixed directly to those metal purlins, must have a thermal break with a material R-Value ≥ R0.2

- building blanket is a deemed-to-comply thermal break‘compressed bulk insulation is considered to achieve an R-Value of not less than 0.2’

• Comply with AS/NZS 4859.1

As an alternative to test method ASTM C335, the Material R-value of preformed pipe insulation may be calculated as follows:The thermal conductivity shall be measured (Note: Conductivity varies with temperature)The following formula shall then be applied
