Introduction
The Integrated Farming System approach hasmultiple objectives of sustainability, food security, farmer security and poverty reduction. It involves use of outputs of oneenterprise component as inputs for other related enterprises wherever feasible, forexample, cattledungmixedwith crop residues and farmwaste canbe converted in tonutrient-rich vermicompost. The salient features of IFS include – innovation in farmingfor maximising production through optimaluse of local resources, effective recyclingof farm waste for productive purposesand developing a judicious mix of income-generating activities such as dairy, poultry, fishery, vermicompostingandothers.
Mr. Samuel of Chandonpokpi villageunder KVK, Chandel practiced subsistencefarming for their livelihood, in order tomaximizefarmproductivity;thetechnologicalinterventions through Integrated FarmingSystemwereadopted inparticipatorymodebyKVKChandel, ICARResearchComplexforNEHRegion,ManipurCentre.

As an agriculture entrepreneur, Mr. Lyngrah felt that conventional method ofagricultural cultivation minimized the yield and income. It is also associated with lowproductivity, increased cost on agriculture inputs and poor or no utilization of existingresources available in the farm. The conventional method also produced ecologicalproblemsoncropdiversity, animalsandpoultryaswellassoilandwaterpollution.

Introduction
The farmers of North Tripura district are mainly associated with traditional fishculturemethods like culture of IndianMajor Carps, exotic carps and few otherminorcarpsintraditionalwayundernormalfishcultureactivities.Theearningsfromthistypeoftraditionalfishculturepracticesarelesscomparedtocultureofhighvaluecommercialfishspecies.However,thereisverylittleknowledgeaboutintegratedfarmingsystemamongthe farmersof this region.Keeping this inmind, developmentof IFSmodule (Fish cumDuckfarming)appearedtobeaninnovativeaswellashighearningsourceoffishculturepracticeinthisdistrict.
Raising ducks over fishponds fits very well with the fish poly-culture system, astheducksarehighlycompatiblewithcultivatedfishes.Ducks fertilizethepondbytheirdroppings, resulting incompletesavingsonpond fertilizerandsupplementaryfish feedwhich accounts for 60 per cent of the totalcostinconventionalfishcultureandtheyneedverylittlefeed.Ducksloosenthepondbottomwith their dabbling and help in release ofnutrientsfromthesoilwhichincreasespondproductivity. Ducks aerate the water whileswimming and been termed as biologicalaerators. Duck houses are constructed onpond dikes; hence, no additional land isrequiredforduckeryactivities.
