Integrated Image ManagementCliniSys Imaging has been developed to support the emerging requirements for digital pathology and to resolve the common issues in accessing and managing images currently experienced in pathology. Pathology images are currently typically stored outside of the LIMS, which creates a disconnect between the pathology event and the image. Images are often stored in various formats, including some proprietary to the device, and are viewed either locally or not at all. Due to a lack of a central storage solution, images are rarely being stored or saved, and are not integrated or shared outside of the pathology department.

With a single central storage for all images and integration with CliniSys LIMS, Imaging addresses the increased call to share, review, save and link images to the hospital infrastructure in line with the principles of interoperable IT connectivity, essential for the drive for greater efficiency highlighted in Lord Carter’s report and the QIPP agenda.

Imaging uses open industry standard Dicom 3.0, the de-facto standard for transmission of diagnostics grade medical images. Having the image fully integrated with the CliniSys LIMS and with all necessary patient demographics routinely embedded within the image itself, Imaging provides improved levels of patient safety and is fully supportive of data governance requirements with patient centric images.

Any Medical Image from any Device from any LocationA key benefit of Imaging is the production of diagnostic quality images at the point of capture. Imaging is compatible with all image capture devices and images irrespective of the manufacturer. Gross Images, micro images from microscope mounted cameras, molecular imaging, electron microscopy, autopsy images, whole slide scanners are just a few of the image types supported through Imaging.

CliniSys fully understands that workflows and working practices differ from customer to customer. To support our customers, Imaging has been developed to be extremely flexible and totally configurable to individual needs. An example of this flexibility can be seen within the ability for each user to configure the mouse button tools for their individual needs. On user may wish for the left mouse button to operate a zoom facility whereas another user may prefer it to operate a contrast adjust instead. The middle wheel of the mouse can also be used for rapid scrolling through a stack of images or studies.

Architecture Overview and WorkflowsImaging’s architectural design provides a central sever based solution delivering a truly scalable and networkable solution supporting biomedical staff and clinicians working at separate and remote locations. Being a departmental and/or Trust wide solution, Imaging is supportive of the evolving workflows seen as a result of the increasing prevalence for multi site pathology services. Images can also be easily distributed / accessed for teaching and multidisciplinary team meetings purposes.

Imaging is a high end multi-modality image display application.

CliniSys ensures complete integrity of the relationship between the image and patient demographic data.

’ Comprehensive Toolset for Image ManipulationThe Image viewer within Imaging is a high end multi-modality image display application. It enables diagnostic quality images to be viewed, manipulated and annotated on a standard computer screen.

Example Workflow

Image is captured from any pathology device(s)

Image is placed in capture folder

Image is placed in Hospital Integration HIS/PAS/HL7

All images are stored for immediate review

Other trust location Web or LIMS

Remote Web viewingMDT Meetings

Via Web or CliniSys LIMSClinical viewing via CliniSys LIMS

Embedded patient demographics and metadata on all images – data governance Image zoom and magnification options maintaining sharpness and clarification - lossless jpeg Multiple images on screen – support of levels Image comparison features Image rotation / vertical flip

Add annotations with definable presets On screen measurements Contrast and brightness options Greyscale and colour negative/invert Manual calibration tool Various angles and angled lined measurements
