• Small Arms Fleet– Supports the sustainment and disposal of commercial off the shelf,

military off the shelf and specialised weapons up to 7.62mm (not including crew served weapons) and attachments

• Direct Fire Support Weapons Fleet– Supports the sustainment, maintenance and disposal of machine guns,

anti-materiel rifles, grenade launchers and anti-armour weapon fleets, including support to a number of weapon mounts, sighting systems and training aids

• Update & Upcoming Activities– Nearing completion of F88SA2 production– Engineering configuration management focus


Projects• Land 40 Phase 2 – Direct Fire Support Weapons

– Delivered advanced version of the M3 Carl Gustav– 40mm Light Weight Automatic Grenade Launcher (LWAGL)– Managed as a “Project of Concern”

• Land 125 Phase 3C – Soldier Enhancements (Lethality) Enhanced F88– An enhanced F88 Austeyr based on F88SA2 with Grenade

Launcher Attachment – Thales Australia– A Surveillance and Target Acquisition suite of equipment for the

EF88– Conducting risk mitigation to achieve 2nd Pass - now in 2014– Initial Materiel Release: 2016– Final Materiel Release: 2020– Detailed Design Review and testing currently underway

Key Roles and Activities• Soldier Combat Ensemble Program Office

– Supports the sustainment, maintenance and disposal of Combat Protective Equipment (such as body armour and load carriage equipment), as well as overseeing LAND125 3B and the delivery of protective equipment for use on operations.

• Field and Aerial Delivery Equipment Fleet– Supports the sustainment, maintenance and disposal of Personal

Field Equipment, as well as Aerial Delivery Equipment (such as parachutes and rigging equipment) and Adventurous Training Equipment

• Special Forces Program Office– Major Projects including JP199 (Establishment of SOCOMD) and

JP 2088 (Equipping TAG (East))– Minor Projects including Static Line Parachutes


LAND 125 3B – Soldier Survivability• A number of tenders are either underway or under development.

• Funding expected to be available 2014/15 in order to sync with Force Generation Cycle

• Initial Materiel Release: 2015• Final Materiel Release: 2018

– Protection: Tender released, closes in September 2013– Load Carriage: Tenders received and are being evaluated– Helmets and Hearing Protection: Tenders for each

expected to be released in July 13

• Hydration Equipment- June 2013 release - Annual value of between $0.4 - $0.8m over 3 years.

• Combat Clothing - Those uniforms, footwear and clothing accessories worn specifically for the conduct of combat operations

• Non-Combat Clothing - Those uniforms, footwear and clothing accessories worn for the purpose of military duties other than the conduct of combat operations. It includes clothing of a military and non- military nature and personal protective clothing

• Accoutrements - Items worn to distinguish service, corps and trade, rank and special appointments. These items include Metal Insignia, Embroidered Insignia, Sashes, Lanyards and Aiguillettes. Accoutrements are worn with both combat and non-combat clothing

Current Focus – Bedding in• Lessons and design from operational procurement items into specs

for L125 3B:– Protection and load carriage, including better fit for females – Helmet– Hearing protection

• Develop design brief for TBAS V5• Finalising operational trials to determine best options for Army

– Pelvic protection, gunshot detection systems, blast gauge, weapon slings, holster, helmets.

• Trials to support the change of focus of Army from Afghanistan to the near region:– Aust Multicam and DPCU comparison– Thermal burden of Tier 0 and Tier 2 comparison


Future Focus• Continue to map thermal and load burden to identify opportunities to

reduce or mitigate these burdens• Prototype and test / trial TBAS Version 5
