The 2016 Cardinal’s Appeal has begun!

We are often reminded by our Holy Father Pope Francis and Sacred Scripture that in order to love one another we must share the blessings which God has provided to us.

In Acts, Chapter 4, we learn that the early Church shared all possessions with one another so that the apostles and early Christian communities could fully proclaim “the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great favor was accorded them all. There was no needy person among them.”

We are called to similarly share what is granted to us by God and return it to Him so that not one of our brothers and sisters goes without: without the gift of faith; without the essential human needs; and without a personal relationship with Our Lord. We are called to Share God’s Blessings, and when we do, we find freedom and joy in proclaiming the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus, just as the apostles did over 2,000 years ago!

A menudo nos recordamos por nuestro Santo Padre Francisco y la Sagrada Escritura que para amarse unos a otros debemos compartir las bendiciones que Dios ha provisto para nosotros.

En Hechos, capítulo 4, nos enteramos de que la Iglesia primitiva compartió todas sus posesiones entre sí por lo que él los apóstoles y comunidades cristianas totalmente podían proclamar "la resurrección del Señor Jesús, y gran favor a todos ellos se le concedió. No había entre ellos ningún necesitado ".

Estamos llamados a compartir de manera similar lo que se concede a nosotros por Dios y devolverlo a Él para que ni uno solo de nuestros hermanos y hermanas hace falta: sin el don de la fe; sin las necesidades humanas esenciales; y sin una relación personal con el Señor. ¡Estamos llamados a compartir las bendiciones de Dios, y cuando lo hacemos, nos encontramos con la libertad y la alegría en la proclamación de la resurrección del Señor Jesús, al igual que los apóstoles hicieron hace más de 2.000 años!

¿Te unirás con sus hermanos y hermanas en compartir las bendiciones de Dios?

Jubilee Year of Mercy

TRANSFIGURATION – COMING TO KNOW THE MESSIAH

Peter, James, and John are so happy with what they have witnessed that Peter wants to make the moment last longer by building three tents, one for Elijah, one for Moses and one for Jesus. Then God’s voice from

the clouds tells them exactly who Jesus is. ‘my Son, the Chosen One’.

The question of Jesus’ identity has been a problem to many, who think of him as a mere carpenter. “Isn’t this the son of Joseph?” (Lk 4:22). His disciples are not sure who Jesus really is: “Who is this who

commands even the winds and the waves, and they obey him? (Lk 8:25).

Jesus Himself asks the disciples: “Who do people say I am?” And the answer varies. John the Baptist. A prophet of old. Then Jesus asks them: “But you, who do you say I am?” And it is Peter who replies well, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Mt 16: 13-16). And Peter’s response is confirmed on the mountain by none other than God Himself: “This is my Chosen One. Listen to him” (Lk 9: 35). The Father recognizes Jesus in the presence of his three companions. From now on, Jesus’ identity should no longer

be a mystery.

We see that Transfiguration is not a solitary event, but one that happens over and over again. Christ spends His entire ministry transfiguring many people: the sick, the broken, the marginalized, the despised. We too

are challenged to transfigure those around us with our love, especially during the Lenten season. We are called not only to

fast and pray but also to spread His Mercy in the form of concrete actions towards the poor and the needy. When we share what we

have, we help transfigure their lives for the better. And the more that they are transfigured, the more they come to know Christ – not as a prophet or teacher but – as the “Messiah, the Son of the

living God.” Let us pray for the strength and the courage to continue Christ’s transfiguration work wherever we may find

ourselves.

TRANSFIGURACIÓN - LLEGAR A CONOCER AL MESÍAS

Pedro, Santiago y Juan están tan felices de lo que han sido testigos que Pedro quiere hacer que el momento dure más tiempo

mediante la construcción de tres tiendas, una para Elías, otra para Moisés y otra para Jesús. Después la voz de Dios desde las

nubes les dice exactamente quién es Jesús. 'Mi Hijo, el Elegido'.

La pregunta sobre la identidad de Jesús ha sido un problema para muchos, que piensan que él es un simple carpintero. "¿No es éste el hijo de José?" (Lc 4:22). Sus discípulos no están seguros de quién es realmente

Jesús: "¿Quién es éste que manda incluso a los vientos y las olas, y le obedecen? (Lc 8:25).

El mismo Jesús le preguntó a sus discípulos: "¿Quién dice la gente que soy?" Y la respuesta varía. Juan el Bautista. Un profeta de la antigüedad. Entonces Jesús les pregunta: "Y vosotros, ¿quién decís que soy yo?" Y es Pedro quien contesta bien: "Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios vivo" (Mt 16: 13-16). Y la respuesta de

Pedro es confirmada en la montaña por nada menos que Dios mismo: "Este es mi Elegido. Escuchadlo"(Lc 9, 35). El Padre reconoce a Jesús en presencia de sus tres compañeros. A partir de ahora, la identidad de

Jesús ya no debe ser un misterio.

Vemos que la Transfiguración no es un evento solitario, sino uno que sucede una y otra vez. Cristo pasó todo su ministerio transfigurando muchas personas: los enfermos, los lastimados, los marginados, los despreciados. Nosotros también estamos retados a transfigurar los que nos rodean con nuestro amor,

especialmente durante este tiempo de Cuaresma. Estamos llamados no sólo a ayunar y orar, sino también a difundir su Misericordia a través de acciones concretas hacia los pobres y los necesitados. Cuando

compartimos lo que tenemos, ayudamos a transfigurar sus vidas y hacerla mejor. Y en cuanto más se transfiguran, más conocen a Cristo - no como un profeta o maestro, sino como el "Mesías, el Hijo de Dios vivo". Oremos por la fuerza y el valor para continuar el trabajo de transfiguración de Cristo donde quiera

que nos encontremos.

LENTEN FAST AND ABSTINENCE

During the season of Lent, the Church urges the faithful to reflect a spirit of penance in their daily lives through performing acts of faith and abstinence.

FASTING requires that only one full meal be taken per day. Two other smaller meals may be taken during the day to maintain physical strength, but these two meals together should not equal a full meal in quantity. Nor is there eating between meals. Fasting obliges all those who have reached the age of 18 and continues to oblige through age 59. Those who are not specifically oblige to fast are encouraged to join in the discipline of fasting to the extent that they are able.

ABSTINENCE prohibits individuals from eating meat on a particular day. Abstinence obliges all

those who have reached the age of 14 and continues to oblige throughout their lives. Those who are not specifically oblige to abstain from eating meat are encouraged to join in the

discipline of abstaining to the extent that they are able.

ASH WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY are days of Fast and Abstinence. FRIDAYS in Lent are days of Abstinence.

CUARESMA AYUNO Y ABSTINENCIA

Durante el tiempo de Cuaresma, la Iglesia les sugiere a los fieles a reflexionar con

espíritu de penitencia en su vida diaria por medio de la realización de actos de fe y de la abstinencia.

EL AYUNO requiere que coma una sola comida completa por el día. Se puede comer otras dos

comidas más pequeñas durante el día para mantener la fuerza física, pero estas dos comidas juntas no deben igualar una comida completa en cantidad. Tampoco hay de comer entre comidas. Se obliga el ayuno a todos los que han llegado a la edad de 18 años y continúa hasta los 59 años cumplidos. Los que no están específicamente obligados a ayunar se les anima a unirse a la disciplina del ayuno en la medida hasta donde puedan.

LA ABSTINENCIA prohíbe a los individuos de comer carne en un día particular. Se obliga a todos los que han llegado a la edad de 14 años y continúa para a lo largo de sus vidas. Los que no están específicamente obligados a abstenerse de comer carne se les anima a unirse a la

disciplina de la abstención en la medida hasta donde puedan.

Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo son días de ayuno y abstinencia. Viernes de Cuaresma son días de abstinencia.
