Introduction

This workbook introduces you to some basic concepts that will help you as you progress through Life & Leadership Potentials Training (LPT) and the Coach Training Program, as well as help you as you begin creating the next phase in your life. There are exercises to complete and information to read.

You are on a self-journey—a journey of discovery. iPEC may or may not read your answers, as, for the purpose of this project, our “opinion” shouldn’t be necessary. In other words, it’s time to start trusting yourself. The purpose of this workbook is for you to self-evaluate and self-develop.

Answer honestly and after whatever contemplation you feel is necessary. Please take the proper time to get the most benefit from this and from your iPEC experience. After you complete this workbook, you can expect to have:

} Gained greater self-awareness

} Discovered your strengths

} Discovered areas for development

} Considered some important concepts that will help you move forward

} Clearly set the intention for your learning experience at iPEC and beyond

Important note: The process you will go through in this workbook—identifying where you are and where you want to go—is a process you’ll be replicating with your clients; therefore, it’s important to experience the process, first-hand.

In order to get the most out of it, we suggest that you complete the Life Review prior to beginning this workbook.

Part 1—Where Are You Now?

When you are more self-aware, you understand and appreciate how you think, feel, and act. By taking time to recognize “where you are,” you can work toward getting to where you want to go. In the Life Review, you looked at what brought you to this point. Now, it’s time to take a deeper look.

In this section, you will examine ten areas, or aspects, of your life. For each area of your life, you’ll rate your current personal level of satisfaction with a list of items associated with that area. If you have other items in a particular area that are important to you, feel free to add them.

You will be rating your satisfaction on a scale of 1–10, with 1 meaning that you are not at all satisfied and 10 meaning you are completely satisfied. If something doesn’t apply to you, choose N/A.

Please identify the items that are personal strengths of yours (these may give you clues, later on, as to what you might like to coach others on) and also those items you wish to personally improve or develop. For example, if you’re a great decision maker, check the Personal Strength box on the “Decision Making” line. If decision making is something you’d like to get better at, check the box for Item to Improve Upon or Develop.

In order for you to better coach clients on those aspects of their lives, at the end of each of the ten areas, you’ll also be asked to identify what, if anything, you’d want to learn about, during the course of the Coach Training Program, to increase your coaching ability or effectiveness in that area.

Be aware that if you plan to be a corporate coach, life issues will still come up—even executives have lives—and if you’re planning to be a life coach, career issues will still come up—as most people do have a career. Thus, it’s important to look at all aspects of your life—and of your client’s.

Part 2—Creating a Vision

You’re well on your way—you’ve looked at the past and the present. Before you create your plan for the future, let’s take a look at some concepts that will be important as you create your vision and as you progress through the Coach Training Program. As you read the information and answer the questions, realize that there are no “right” or “wrong” answers, so please give the concepts some thought and then record your impressions.

IntegrityIntegrity is a subjective concept. People often feel guilty for when they are “out of integrity.” Realize though, that many times we are actually in integrity when we think we are not because we are honoring another, sometimes hidden, value. For example, say you have a high value of spending time with your family. If you are spending a lot of time on your assignments during the Coach Training Program, you may feel guilty and “out of integrity.” However, if you also value personal development, achievement, or financial security, how possible is it that you are honoring one of those values by your commitment to spend time on your coach training?

Since integrity is subjective, it’s valuable to think about how you define it. Write down when you are in full integrity (by your definition); also write down when you act in a way that compromises your integrity and you think why this occurs.

What, if anything, did you learn about yourself or your values from this exercise?

What, if any, concepts around integrity are important to incorporate in your personal and professional development plans?

Creating SynchronicitiesSome people believe that a coincidence is something that just happens. Those who are more conscious are aware that the energy they exude creates synchronicities that match their current thought patterns.

What, if any, synchronicities have occurred since you enrolled in iPEC’s Life & Leadership Potentials Training?

Whether or not there were any, try to create synchronicities by stating to yourself, and to those around you, that you are on a new road in your journey and have decided to make a significant difference in this world. Remember that synchronicities always occur but it’s up to you to be aware of them!

Walking the TalkIt is very important for a coach to “walk the talk,” as we are role models for our families, friends, co-workers, and clients. Realize though, that “walking the talk” means that you are, indeed, walking on a path—not that you’ve already reached your destination.

What kind of talk do you want to walk?

What kind of talk are you currently walking?

If your first two answers differ, what are you going to do about it?

What, if any, concepts around walking the talk are important to incorporate in your personal and professional development plans?

Non-JudgmentBeing completely non-judgmental would be a monumental task and is, perhaps, an impossible thing to achieve. However, just working on it will help you raise your consciousness and improve all of your relationships. We judge other people and we judge ourselves, as well—sometimes, you can be your own worst critic… or enemy!

Think of one specific time in the past week when you have judged another person. Answer these questions based on that incident:

What message am I giving by judging this person or thing?

Other than how I’m seeing this, what could be another perspective?

What would be the most loving way to handle this situation?

What can I do next time I’m in the same situation or having the same thoughts?

Think of one specific time in the past week when you have judged yourself. Answer these questions based on that incident:

What message am I giving myself?

What might my best friend tell me regarding this situation?

You can become more aware of judging yourself and others by keeping a judgment journal. Whenever you feel you have judged yourself or another, simply jot it down in your journal. If you’d like, answer the questions above each time you record an entry in your journal.

Clearing the ClutterClutter is energy. It is also, very often, a reflection of our lives. By clearing the clutter, we make room for more positive things to come into our lives. Remember, also, that clutter is not only papers unfiled but words not spoken, resentment not released, etc.

List your clutter, that is, anything that is draining you or diverting your energy from what you really want.

Now that you’ve identified your clutter, clear it! Below, write some specific actions you will take to clear your clutter. You may also wish to include some of these in your personal or professional action plan.

VisionNow, let’s take a look at where you want to go. In order to do so, it is essential to have a detailed vision. Too many people wander about, hoping that success and happiness will somehow happen to them. However, the most successful and happiest people are those who have a clear picture of where they are going and then take the required action to get there.

For each of the following answers, please consider all aspects of your life:

} Personal Development

} Career/Profession

} Personal Finance

} Health & Aging

} Intimate Relationships

} Social Relationships

} Family/Parenting

} Fun & Enjoyment

} Spiritual Awareness

} Inner Work & Qualities

} Energy & Engagement—Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, Physical, Social, and Environmental

What would be your dream result, one year after completing the Coach Training Program? Please state how differently your life will look and give as much detail as possible. (State it in the present tense, such as “I have 12 clients.”)

Now, project to three years after taking the training and double your vision. What would double look like?

Project out another five years and double it again. What would that look like?

IntentionAn intention is a message you give yourself about what you’re planning to do. When you have a strong intention, you commit your energy to the task or goal at hand.

This exercise is simple, yet powerful—and it can transform your experience at iPEC. Think about what you want most, personally and professionally, to experience during the Coach Training Program. Now, imagine that you have just completed the Coach Training Program.

Write a letter of thanks to iPEC for helping you grow and get exactly what it was that you wanted from the program, and so much more. Write about what you’ve learned as well as how and why you are different.

The purpose is for you to create a powerful intention and set that intention in motion by putting it in writing.

Part 3—Creating the Future, Now

The You, 2.0 PlanYou’ve got your vision and your intention, and, now, it’s time to devise a plan to get you there!

PERSONAL PLAN

Look back at Part 1, at the items you wish to improve or develop, and choose the three that you’d like to work on first. For those top three, indicate 1-3 actions you could take to make the change you’d like. You may choose to work with your peer coach on these items.

1. Item I wish to develop or improve: _________________________________________________________

PROFESSIONAL PLANWhat are the top three areas—right now—that you’d like to coach someone else on? Those may be things that are strengths of yours, areas that you’d like to develop in yourself, or just things you’re interested in. Choose items from the areas in Part 1 or come up with your own. Remember, this can—and most likely will—change as you go through your training. For each of those areas, what are the 1-3 topics you’d like to learn more about or develop so that you could coach in these areas?

CommitmentCommitment is not looking back or having your energy split by doubt or worry. When you truly commit to something, you don’t give yourself an option to turn around and run or play the “what if” game, meaning, “What if … this (or that) doesn’t work out. Perhaps I’ll hold back a little to be sure.” Commitment based on a “what if” is not a full commitment.

What does commitment mean to you?

How committed are you to your “Your 2.0 Plan”?

If you’re not fully committed, what is holding you back?

What steps can you take to move toward being fully committed?

AccountabilityAccountability is doing what you say you will do and answering to someone about that.

With 1 being you’re not at all sure if you’ll do what you say you’ll do, and 10 being nothing will stop you from doing it, where are you on a scale of 1-10? ______________

Why did you pick the number you did? What does it say about you?

Who will you ask to hold you accountable for making sure that you implement the action plans you’ve devised? (This could be your peer coach, a friend, a family member, or a colleague.)

Part 4—Progress Journal

Congratulations on reaching the end of the Intentions workbook! Although you have completed the exercises, know that your intentions and your plans are ever-changing and developing. We suggest that you revisit this workbook after Module II and again after Module III to see how you’ve grown throughout the Coach Training Program.

Use this progress journal to record questions that have come up for you, insights you’ve had, successes that you wish to remember, and anything else that will show how you’ve changed and developed throughout your time at iPEC.
