• What is DPS’ role?– Support UNODC and Member States in the implementation

of the Classification Gradual modality According to country’s capacities, conditions, resources and timing

• Advantages:– Data coherence and comparability within and between countries – Common framework for the classification of data from administrative

records and victimization surveys Estimate gap between reported and unreported crimes

– Tool to standardize data gathering and dissemination between different criminal justice entities, levels of government and sources of information 8

• What is the CTS?– UN’s study on crime tendencies and functioning of

criminal justice systems – 5 fixed sections with 164 indicator– 1 special section CTS 2015 special module on prisons

• What is DPS’ role? – Since 2010, DPS support UNODC in promoting the use of

the CTS in the Americas– Monitoring, updating, processing and analyzing

Extend and strengthen the use of CTS in the region

• Why? (objectives)– Consolidate CTS and SUT focal points – Support Member States in the implementation of
