Dear Parents and Caregivers

Last term I alerted you to a St Therese Facility Development survey

which was developed by Sean Kirchner on behalf of the School Board.

It was unfortunate that we experienced technical difficulties at that

time and the survey did not appear. The issues have been rectified

and the survey is up and ready to go. Please take a couple of minutes

to respond to assist the School Board in continuing the robust,

enthusiastic, futures focused conversations about the possibilities for

the school. Please note the survey will close on Thursday 21st May.

As promised in last week’s Inter Nos, I have included

information regarding Mark LeMessurier’s community

presentation which is on Thursday 21st May from 7 – 8:30 pm in the

Dominican building. Please see a copy of the invitational flyer which

will go home to every family next week. I strongly encourage you all

to attend.

You will also find a Parent Grievance Procedure which has been

ratified by the school board as a clear and consistent way to share

any concerns in a manner which is respectful and productive.

Soccer players can wear sport uniform on to school on Thursdays for

after school training.

Our first Assembly will be next Monday 11th May at 2:40 in the

Dominican building presented by Room 2. I especially invite the

parents of the Year 7 students as they will be presented with their

senior jumpers on this occasion.

The year 5, 6 and 7 classes will begin the Enrichment Program along

with the cluster schools of St Joseph, Kingswood and St Thomas,

Goodwood, on Tuesday in week 4. The Enrichment Program is a

unique and exciting offering for the senior students in our cluster

schools and students are able to select from 11 exciting activities

across the 3 sites. This year we are joining with the Children's

University Australia in partnership with the Adelaide University, aims

to provide high quality out of school hours activities to children,

engaging the wider community as learning partners in this process.

An important principle of The Children’s University is that

participation is voluntary and it is intentionally something other than

school. Activities must take place outside the normal school day

during lunch, after school, weekends and holidays.

SCHOOL FETE Sunday 8 Nov. 2015

Next Tuesday afternoon Sally Owens from the Children's University will be here to launch this initiative at

a special assembly at 2:40. You are welcome to join us. For more information please have a look at the

website at http://childrensuniversity.com.au/

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for

students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It has been an everyday part of the school calendar since 2008. It will

occur next week and will be in paper format in 2015 with the view to being electronic in the future.

NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such

as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken nationwide, every year, in

the second full week in May.

NAPLAN is made up of tests in the four areas (or ‘domains’) of:

reading

writing

language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)

numeracy.

NAPLAN tests skills in literacy and numeracy that are developed over time through the school

curriculum.

To get a sense of the ‘look and feel’ of the tests and to understand what types of questions are asked,

a full set of example NAPLAN tests is available.

The Federation of Catholic Parent Communities have written the attached resource, designed to

answer a number of questions commonly asked by parents about the purpose and scope of NAPLAN. http://www.parentfederation.catholic.edu.au/__files/f/2052/Putting%20NAPLAN%20in%20Perspective%20-%20FINAL.pdf

I wish all mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunties, caring and loving parents and caregivers an especially

wonderful Mother’s day on Sunday. Please join us on Monday for Whole School Prayer where we will

honour you.

God Bless

Angela

“I am the vine, you are the branches” John 15:5 This week in the Gospel we reflect that God is the vine and we are the branches. The influence we have with our branches and the fruit we may be producing and sharing within our community revitalize us to continue our growth.

Caritas: Our contribution to Caritas will make a significant impact on the lives of many people they support through their work. We extend a special thank you to Helena Kojevnikoff whose annual Easter raffle this year raised $324. The total contribution from our school community to Caritas was over $575. Many thanks to all members of the community for their support through contributions made via the Project Compassion boxes and the Just Rice Day held during Term 1.

Mothers: An invitation is extended to all families to join us on Monday 11th May at 9.00am for the Whole School Prayer. The Year 5/6 class will lead us in celebrating the special people who have the role of Mothers in our lives.

Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians: The patron of Australia is Our Lady Help of Christians and you are invited to join us at Mass on Monday 25th May at 9.00am in the St Therese Parish Church for this special feast day celebration. All children will be present at the Eucharistic Mass and you are warmly welcome to join us.

Sacrament of Reconciliation: The celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be held at the St Therese Parish Church at Colonel Light Gardens on Thursday 28 May at 7.00pm. You are all invited to share in this special time with our candidates.

Many blessings Iva Denton APRIM
