Name Quote
Hatshepsut " Now my heart turns this way and that, as I think what the people say. Those who shall see my monuments in years to come and who shall speak of what I have done. "
Hatshepsut " My command stands firm like mountains, and the sun's disk shines and spreads rays overly the titulary of my august person, and my falcon rises high above the kingly ban-ner unto all eternity."
From the Stela of Thutmose III “You have built my temple as a work of eternity, Made longer and wider than it had been, With its great gateway ‘Menkheperre-feasts-Amun Ra’, Your monuments surpass those of all former kings.”
By Ancient History Historian, Maspero about he mummification of Thutmose III
Happily the face, which had been plastered over with pitch at the time of embalming, did not suffer at all from this rough treatment, and appeared intact when the protecting mask was removed. Its appearance does not answer to our ideal of the conqueror. His statues, though not representing him as a type of manly beauty, yet give him refined, intelligent features, but a comparison with the mummy shows that the artists have ide-alized their model. The forehead is abnormally low, the eyes deeply sunk, the jaw heavy, the lips thick, and the cheek-bones extremely prominent; the whole recalling the physiognomy of Thutmose II, though with a greater show of energy.
Thutmose II "This daughter of mine, Khnumetamun Hatshepsut—may she live eternally!—I have appointed as my successor upon my throne... she shall direct the people in every sphere of the palace; it is she indeed who shall lead you. Obey her words, unite yourselves at her command."
Weni– A court official of the 6th dynasty in Ancient Egypt
'His Majesty sent me to Hatnub in order to bring a great altar of travertine of Hatnub. I brought this altar down for him in 17 days. After it had been quarried at Hatnub, I had it transported downstream in the barge that I had made for it, a barge of acacia wood of 60 cubits in length and 30 cubits in width. It was built in 17 days and in the third month of summer, when there was no water on sandbanks, it was safely moored at the pyra-mid of King Merenre.'
Inscribed on King Merenre's pyramid tomb
'The year of the second occasion of the census of all the great and small cattle of Lower and Upper Egypt... The royal mission which was sent with the god's treasurer Hepy to the terraces of turquoise. There served with him: pilots and quarry-masters Bekenptah and Udjai...'
Herodotus, Ancient Greek Historian “As one proceeds beyond Heliopolis up the country, Egypt becomes narrow, the Arabian range of hills, which has a direction from north to south, shutting it in upon the one side, and the Libyan range upon the other. The former ridge runs on without a break, and stretches away to the sea called the Erythraean *The Red Sea+; it contains the quar-ries whence the stone was cut for the pyramids of Memphis: and this is the point where it ceases its first direction, and bends away in the manner above indicated.”
Written on the wall of the Luxor about
the battle against the Hittite Empire,
which the Egyptians lost.
“His majesty slaughtered the armed forces of the Hittites in their entirety, their great
rulers and all their brothers ... their infantry and chariot troops fell prostrate, one on top
of the other. His majesty killed them ... and they lay stretched out in front of their hors-
es. But his majesty was alone, nobody accompanied him .. “
Stela of the soldier Qedes from Gebelein
Ancient Egypt Quotes and Excerpts
I made a boat of 30 (cubits) and a small boat that ferried the boatless in the inun-dation season. I acquired these in the household of my father Iti; (but) it was my mother Ibeb who acquired them for me.
