Introduction to Web Intelligence

Web Intelligence or WEBI is the reporting tool of Business Objects used for reporting and analysis. Web

Intelligence can be used to create reports using already created universe. It allows user to query data using

business terminology. User can get the required data just by dragging and dropping the object on web

intelligence query panel. It allows user to generate ad-hoc reports without the knowledge of database or SQL.

Interaction with Operational Web Intelligence Report 1

Let’s check some interesting functionality of Web Intelligence (WEBI) report.

To open Web Intelligence (WEBI) report go to Public Folders->Expo Sales ->Sales Reports directory.

Let’s open “Expo Discounting Analysis (Sales Reports)” WEBI report by double clicking on it.

Here we have the screen called “Prompts”. On the left hand side we can see tab “Prompt Summary” which has

list of parameters like, “Line”,”Country”,”YearMonth”,”Region”.

By Clicking on prompt from the list we can see the list of prompt values. We can easily add or remove these

prompt values using ‘>’ , ‘<’ button which works as filter for our report.

Let’s directly click on “Run Query” button on the bottom, as we are not providing any filter to run this report.

Here we can see the Report, which shows Region wise “Net Sales” and “Average Discount” for the differentproduct Line. It also shows the graph for “Line” Vs “Net Sales” and “Average Discount”.

We can see toolbar tab with functionalities like “New”, “Open”, “Save”, “Print”, “Find”, “Export”, “Undo”,

“Refresh” and etc.

Let’s see what this does. This report has a Drill Down functionality to check that let’s go to the table for “NorthAmerica” region. Now click on a line “Sports” which shows list of different Categories under Line “Sports”.

Here we can see Drill Down result from the List.

From these list of categories, we can also Drill Down to the list of “Products” by clicking on any individual

“Category”. These entire products are from “Golf” Category.

To Drill up click on a “Drill Up” button, on table header.

Now let’s go for some more details based on a region “Europe”. Click on a region “Europe” and it opens

another linked report in a new tab.

Here we can see the table for Region “Europe” with some extra fields like ”Unit Quantity”, “Gross Sales”,“Extended Cost” and “Margin”. We can see the row “Sum” on the bottom of the table, which shows sum of

each individual field.

We can also see the graph for “Line” Vs. “Net Sales” and “Average Discount”.

We can also Drill Down and Drill Up from Line into Category and Product as we have discussed above.

Let’s try some modification in a Web Intelligence (WEBI) report.

To open Web Intelligence (WEBI) report go to Public Folders->Expo Sales->Workspace Demo directory.

To edit “Expo Sales Detail (Workspace Demo)” report we have to copy that report into “My Favorites”

directory.

Now right click on the report “Expo Sales Detail (Workspace Demo)” select “Organize” tab and click on

“Copy”.

Now open My Document tab from the left panel and select “My Favorites” folder.

Now right click on folder select “Organize” tab and click on “Paste” option to paste this report.

Let’s open “Expo Sales Detail (Workspace Demo)” WEBI report by double clicking on it.

So here is the report for “Regional Sales and Margins” which shows Region wise “Category”, “Customer

Name”, ”Transactions”, ”Gross Sales”, ”Previous Year TD Sales” and “Margin %” for the different product

Lines.

We can also see the region wise graph for “Category” Vs. “Gross Sales”, “Previous Year TD Sales”.

We can see toolbar tab with functionalities like “New”, “Open”, “Save”, “Print”, “Find”, “Export”, “Undo”,

“Refresh” and etc.

Now, let’s play around with this report. Let’s add a new column in the table first.

Right now our report is in a reading mode so to edit this report we have to change report mode from Reading to

Design. Click on a Drop Down Design button on the right and select “With Data” option. Now we can edit this

report.

Now select “Available Objects” tab from the list of vertical tabs on the left.

Let’s add a column call City. Select the “City” from the “Available Objects” list, drags the “City” object to the

table and release it. It is as easy as we drag and drop files in a folder. Here we can add this column as a newcolumn or we can replace existing column. Now we can see the newly added column called “City” in the table.

Now we know that, how to add a new column in a table. Let’s check the sorting functionality on “Customer

Name” column.

Right click on the “Customer Name” column, go to the “Sort” option from the list and select the “Ascending”option.

Here we can see the sorted table on “Customer Name”.

Now let’s try ranking functionality. First of all right click on the table, select “Ranking” option from the list and

click on “Add Ranking” option.

Now we have a screen where we can select top or bottom values for the section/block based on measure weselect.

We will select the “Gross Sales” measure and 3 “Top” records. Click on “Apply” button then click on “OK”

button.

This is Top 3 ranked “Gross Sales”.

Now, let’s try one more interesting functionality of WEBI reports. We can easily turn graph into table and tableinto graph.

Right click on a graph. Go to “Turn into” option and select “Vertical Table”.

Here we have a table turned from graph.

Now, we can turn this same table into graph. Right click on a graph. Go to “Turn Table into” option and select“Column Chart”.
