Interactive Organizational Chart Project Options Prepared for Bob Bickerstaff, VP ICS Marketing

The ICS Web Services team has been asked to produce an Interactive Organizational Chart for all employees in the ICS Marketing Group. The purpose of this document is to lay out the options available to accomplish this task.

Option Pros Cons Neutral Labor Req/Est. Cost

1 Use 3rd party software to append Metadirectory data to pictures of organization

Allows BU coordinator to receive Metadirectory information so org charts match HR payroll

Limited flexibility in terms of formatting – cannot control sort order, which is alphabetical rather than dotted lines

May require a skilled programmer to set up to perform live data feeds from Metadirectory

Unsure if software is user-friendly

$500.00 for software

$$$ for LDAP Programmer

Can be complete in 30 days or less

Trial software has been requested

2 Use HTML pages similar to Rod Odom’s website at http://netops.bst.bls.com/netops/orgchart/orgchart.asp

Simple to design and manage, but is not automated. Flexibility in terms of formatting

Possibility of having Odom’s team manage

BU coordinator would need to process organizational changes and manually maintain up-to-date charts

Similar to Odom’s chart, clicking the links on the page could lead to Metadirectory info or picture org chart in PowerPoint

The Web Services group also has the ability to maintain the html pages if Odom’s team cannot manage for us.

3 Build an interface to Metadirectory

Would meet all the requirements requested

Would need to engage VPs from Corp, HR and BTG Shared Services (Ed Barnes)

Interfacing to the Metadirectory is not desired by Locator administrators. Expect delays

Web Services would provide the database of photos

4 Utilize a template provided by CDIA Team to build in Java or .Net

Would meet all requirements requested and utilize prior experience and expertise of CDIA

Experienced JAVA or .Net Programmer

If Programmer resources are not used, Web Services team would need to be trained initially

5 Engage the CDIA Team to build the application

The CDIA Team is internal and has built very similar applications in the past and can meet our requirements with minimal modification of existing code and minimal cost.

$3,000 (+/- 20%)

<40 hours over a two week period

Web Services would provide the database of photos
