interactive pollutant mapping powered by smw, franz borrmann, alexander gesinn, smwcon fall 2014
DESCRIPTION
In many countries, the remediation of in-house pollutants such as PCB and asbestos has come into the focus. We want to show how SMW powered pollutant register and mapping can be used to document measurements, direct remedial actions and inform stakeholders.TRANSCRIPT

• Technical Details – Part 2
Setting the Scene
• Indoor pollution is resulting from buildingmaterials– Asbestos used as fire proof insulation
– Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) used in elasticseals, mainly between concrete parts
– Polyarmatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) used in adhesives and elastic seals in floors
– Pesticides (i.a. HCH) used as wood protectives
Example PCB
• Chlorinated hydrocarbons
• Group of 211 congeners
• Used in elastic material
• Used in many prefabricated concretebuildings, mainly in seals
• Fire resistant, very stable
• Widely applicated in the 1960s till 1980s

Toxicology
• Neuro-patholotical effects
• Oxidative stress by degradation products
• Contain dioxins and furans due to synthesisbyproducts these are ultimative cancerinducing substances
Metabolism

Regulations
• Usage in open systems banned in 1973
• Production banned in 1993, small amounts(condensors) allowed until 2010
• Part of the Rotterdam Convention(„The dirty dozen“)
• Rubble < 50 mg/kg
• PCB directives on state- but not on federallevel, slight differences from state to state
Regulatory Limits
<300 µg/m³ (approx 10% tolerable daily intake TDI)
No Adverse Effect Level
300-3000 µg/m³Observation Level
Source Removal, if AppropriateAir Management
3000 µg/m³ (approx TDI within 24 h)
Immediate Action Required
Current solutions
• Excel Sheets
• Access Databases
• Usually static reports to stakeholders
• Static Webpages

Background information on substance
Summary
• Approach for displaying any semantic dataon related to images (i.a. floor plan etc)
• Display filtered to current values
• Correct display of– Measurands
– Measurement units
– Measured values
– Limit values
Room for improvement
• Color definition of image annotation bysemantic properties
• Integration of IFC/CAD-import for buildingdata
• Enhancement of Navigation
