Project SCALE partners 1. Background Project SCALE (Step Change in Agri-food Logistics Ecosystems) targets are to enhance economic competitiveness as well as improve environmental and social sustainability of the food and drink supply chain across North West Europe, by focusing on increasing food demand, energy prices and environmentally damaging emissions. In order to achieve these goals, it is crucial for this project to identify the risks along the food & drink supply chain and their impact on the 3BL. 2. Aim & Objectives This project develops an interactive tool to assess SC risk for a food & drink network, taking into account the Triple Bottom Line (Profit, People and Planet). Analyse the current situation of food SCs, SC Risk Management concepts, Risk assessment tools and the 3BL in the food industry Identify specific risks related to the food & drink sector Create a risk assessment framework Develop and validate with practitioners/academics the risk assessment tool The tool allows managers and practitioners to identify “hot spots” along the SC and highlights companies with harmful effect on the 3BL. Information is based on subjective opinion and previous performance data introduced by the company’s user. It is not totally reliable in terms of precise information, however it provides a proactive vision of the entire SC and where managers should focus more by allocating the most important risks and the most damaging ones for the economical, social and environmental output. 3. 1.

• Analyse the current situation of food SCs, SC Risk Management concepts, Risk assessment tools

and the 3BL in the food industry • Identify specific risks related to the food & drink sector • Create a risk assessment framework • Develop and validate with practitioners/academics the risk assessment tool

The tool allows managers and practitioners to identify “hot spots” along the SC and highlights companies with harmful effect on the 3BL. Information is based on subjective opinion and previous performance data introduced by the company’s user. It is not totally reliable in terms of precise information, however it provides a proactive vision of the entire SC and where managers should focus more by allocating the most important risks and the most damaging ones for the economical, social and environmental output.

3. Risk & 3BL Assessment Methodology • Literature review – Food SC, Risk Management and 3BL • Food & Drink Supply Chain Risk Identification • Research and apply Risk & 3BL Assessment techniques • Framework & Interactive tool development
