Thursday 8th April, 10am 4pmA dialogue with Airan Berg and Franois Matarasso,
exploring European approaches to artistic practices
that invite social engagement. The debate will
investigate how this engagement informs the
creative process and the artwork. The symposium
will highlight case studies from arts organisations
in Birmingham that work in innovative ways within
cross-cutting agendas to create art that is relevant to
particular communities.
Day One will be o specifcinterest to artists and practitioners(whether as individuals or aspart o an organisation) wishingto develop their practice in thecontext o community engagementand cultural exchange.
Day Two will be o interestto artists, arts organisations,NGOs, local authority ofcers andregional agencies interested incross-cultural practice, communityengagement and internationalperspectives.

In our BackyardAn Open Day with activities or amilies at the CommunityGallery (BM&AG), showing work developed through our artsresidencies in local neighbourhoods. Participatory activitieswill include storytelling, mosaic making, painting on flm andapple mapping. The public launch o the exhibition will takeplace in the Community Gallery in the evening and theexhibition will run until the end o June 2010.
