Alternate sustained stress (Alt-sUs) – the new CAEsAr ii approach in determining the force-based load distribution in the presence of nonlinear supports CAESAR II has always accommodated nonlinear boundary conditions with a focus on calculating the proper expansion strain (and stress) range. Generally, the piping codes give little attention to such nonlinear restraints. But the 2014 edition of the US process piping code added a phrase to the definition of the allowed expansion stress range (equation (1b)) stating that stress due to sustained loads shall be the maximum value “considering all support conditions”. CAESAR II 2016 addresses this new rule by adding a new analysis type – the alternate sustained stress case. This session will describe the how this “Alt-SUS” stress is calculated and its intended uses. A review of the mathematical concepts of the modal method and their application in a CAEsAr ii dynamic analysis.Modal analysis is a commonly used to calculate the maximum response to a dynamic event and the approach used in almost all CAESAR II dynamic analyses – response spectrum, force response spectrum and modal time history. This session will describe the how these natural frequencies and modes of vibration are determined, the parameter settings used in their calculation, and their associated output reports

Creating useful drawings through CAEsAr ii with minimal expertiseEngineers are often asked to share their CAESAR II results with others who are unfamiliar with the program reports or unaware of a model’s detail. For example, while CAESAR II may list the support load at “node 250”, the reader may not identify “node 250” as a specific support in the piping layout. In these situations, a common reference – the drawing – is a more useful reference. The ISOGEN capability provided in CAESAR II serves as a very good tool for generating such annotated drawings. This session will review the simple steps necessary to quickly utilize this application and to customize the layout and model presentation. This is an update of a previous (2012) CAU Express presentation.

ABSTRACTSCADWORX New product release: CADworx structure Within the next few months Intergraph will be releasing its newest product for the CADWorx Plant Design Suite in almost eight years. CADWorx Structure rewrites the way that both structural and plant designers create and design the structures that support all of our facilities. Join us to lean how you can model faster, and easier, all while supplying information the natively rolls into GT STRUDL for best-in-class analysis. Be the first to see why CADWorx Structure is the wave of the future for structural design and why it should be your next solution for structural modeling.

improve efficiency with CADworx plant 2016 CADWorx 2016 is now available! Discover new functionalities and how they benefit you in your project execution. Learn how to execute your projects with even greater accuracy and efficiency. Achieve better control of material assignment at the specification level, improve specification management across versions, manage complex pipe support assemblies, and facilitate specification management through the excel interface, and much more!

Advanced pipe supportsCADWorx 2016 includes new pipe support functionality which enables greater flexibility and productivity in your projects. Learn how the new pipe support capabilities provides the ability to combine multiple custom pipe support components in a single pipe support assembly. We will also review how to include structural steel components in a pipe support assembly and how to leverage the new Pipe Support modeler, generate pipe support deliverables, and more!

Enhanced specification Editor FunctionalityThe Specification Editor in 2016 includes multiple improvements. Learn about the new Material Assignment Setup enhancements and Excel interface capabilities. The Material Assignment Setup allows designation of material assignment by size and provides hierarchical control at a Global, Component Group, or Component Type level. The Specification Editor now allows the user to export specifications to Excel, import updates from Excel, and create new Excel templates for data exchange.

PV ELITE Understanding stress CategoriesWhen analyzing attachments to vessel walls, such as nozzles, clips, legs and lugs the allowable stresses induces in the vessel wall differ. We need to understand the reasons why there are different allowable stresses. This presentation shows the difference between primary and secondary stresses and why they are treated differently. And why general and local stresses are treated differently. pV Elites important but little known toolsPV Elite has some very useful, and perhaps little known tools that can benefit the designer. They also help the designer sometimes recover from mistakes he might make. Designers are sometimes subjected to time restraints, and that is when he requires a quick fix to get the design on track. The presentation shows the user how to more efficiently use PV Elite to get the task done as quickly as possible.
