EVERY GOOD DESIGN BEGINS WITH AN EVEN BETTER STORY.
Designers are storytellers. To create a great design, one must first understand the story needed to be produced. That, coupled with user experiences makes a space so much more meaningful.
I believe in designing with a desired end in mind and take the finest details into consideration. Every of my designs derived from a concept in mind while adapt-ing to space planning and its constraints. Materials were chosen based on both physical and conceptual reasons.
This book is a compilation of the works done in my 3 years of education at Singapore Polytechnic’s Design School, coupled with some Photography that was done as a side hobby, I hope that this book will be able to showcase a glimpse of how I view and execute design.
ENJOY!

SENSES BY THE BAY A HOSPITALITY PROJECT FOR THE MILLENNIAL
This project addresses how we think about new sce-narios for the millenial traveller; what newmaterials and spatial boundaries we could work with; and what daily experiences can be enhanced when we look at both the digital and physical worlds.
We were tasked with designing a hotel for the millen-nial traveller. This hotel is to be located at The Prom-ontory @ Marina Bay.
The Promontory @ Marina Bay (formerly Central Promontory Site) is used as an interim event space and public space used for activities such as theatres and carnivals.
The concept of this hotel is ‘Awareness through the Senses’ and aims to connect the Millennial, hotel and site as one. It engages the five senses of the Millenni-al through its design and use of materials.

Having to design this hotel near The Promontory means that it has to engage the events surrounding it. The inhabitant has to feel a sense of place in the hotel while being ‘displaced’ emotionally while events are happening as they can participate in the events with just their five senses alone, without being at the event itself. They can be in the hotel, but displaced emotionally into the site.
14Interior Design Portfolio 2016
The inhabitant first checks in online in the comfort of their homes. At that moment, their sense of ‘home’ is in their own home.
Once the inhabitant reaches The Promontory, he/she will be automatically engaged with the site and be displaced into the huge site.
15Interior Design Portfolio 2016
The inhabitant is once again displaced onto a boat, where they will be implaced into their new ‘home’ during the duration of their stay.
The inhabitant is displaced into having the hotel as their new ‘home’ and begins to perceive that space as where they pri-marily belong for the duration of their stay.

The lighting was decided to be LED strips hidden in the middle wall that surrounds the toilet and several outlets on the perimeter of the hotel which follow the accoya timber deck-ing in terms of alignment.
These are controlled by dimmer switches located near the bed area. This allows the inhabitant to custom-ize where and when they want the lights to be on, as well as how bright they want the room to be.

S.T.ROLL TRANSPORTERA CONCEPTUAL PROJECT FOR
‘HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE’The S.T.ROLL transporter is designed to specifically meet the needs of the clients which are Sophie and Heen (from Howl’s Moving Castle).
This transporter is designed specifically for the clients themselves and cannot operate without ele-ments which the clients possess such as Sophie’s walking stick.
Designed for a fun and comfortable experience, So-phie will be strolling with ease on the conveyor belt, as she turns to tease and speak to the witch. Before she knows it, she would have sophistically rolled her way up to the palace.

Customized for Sophie, the organically designed transporter brings Sophie and Heen, the Spy Dog up the tedious flight of stair to the palace. The transporter makes use of Sophie’s linear action on a treadmill to turn it into a rotary reaction using gears and wheels.

SUPPLY AND DEMANDA CAFE PROJECT
This Cafe Project invited the use of an existing Cafe in Singapore. We were to design a cafe similar to that Cafe, following its design principles. Supply & De-mand specialises in pizza and wine.
Brown, black, grey and other dark colours accentuate the space by giving it a very comfortable and welcom-ing vibe. The design also revolves around user experi-ence, as the furniture are all designed in order to ca-ter to pizza and wine sizes. Warm white lighting with a specially designed light fixture is used throughout the cafe.

WRAPPED UPA RETAIL BASED SHOPHOUSE PROJECT
Located at Joo Chiat, ‘Wrapped Up’ is a shop house which follows the design concept of folding planes.
This was derived from the method of how ‘Kueh Pisang’, a Peranakan dessert is made. Food generally goes through a journey and it is the end product derived from a process(cooking/baking etc).
This is implemented into the shop house in its folding planes, similar to how a ‘Kueh Pisang’ is folded. Its layout is also directly derived from the process of how Kueh Pisang is made.

LIGHTING ELECTIVEDETAILED LIGHTING PLAN FOR ‘WRAPPED UP’
During the Lighting Elective, we were tasked to explore how lighting affects an interior space.
Having timfolding planes in the interior resulted in the lights being placed in every corner of any fold present with it being the most obvious indication of a fold. This directs the user’s eyes to follow the folding planes of the shop house. Warm lighting (2700K) is used throughout the interior, as it complements the timber folding planes in the interior.

RHYTHMIC CAPSULE HOTELA CAPSULE HOTEL PROJECT
This project explores the understanding of spatial design through the fundamental idea of a void. The task was to ‘carve’ out a capsule hotel from a block. Each room should comprise of a sleeping space, writing space and a bathroom.
The form of the hotel shows the expresses rhythm and movement, while making use of recesses in both the exterior and interior. The interior makes use of neutral colours and specific materials to create a relaxing atmosphere whilst the inhabitant uses the space. The interior complements the exterior by using recesses, which create a sense of depth in the room.
Warm lighting is used throughout the hotel so as to bring out a very comfortable vibe. Warm lighting also complements the materials and neutral colours used in the room.

2009 SERPENTINE PAVILIONA DETAILED STUDY ON THE EXISTING PROJECTThis elective taught us the effect form and language can have on a building.
SANAA’s Serpentine Pavilion utilises materials, the environment and certain design principles in order to create this pavilion and to reinforce its concept of blending ito the surroundings.
Studies were done on the column placement, access, materials and wall placement. All these played a key role in creating that pavilion.

INHABITAN APARTMENT FOR AN ARCHITECT
This was the very first space planning project given to us. The client is an Architect who is seldom home. When she is home, she frequents the bedroom and living room the most. This contributed to the decision of making those two spaces the largest space in the apartment.
A study room is provided for the Architect in case she has work to do. A small kitchen is provided as the client rarely cooks and usually eats out. A generous amount of space was allocated to the bathroom as the client requested for the bathroom to be luxurious.
