To design new facilities within the currently utilized space of the existing cannery building, that is now Strewn Winery located in the Niagara Peninsula. This was designed in 1997 and since then the newer wineries provide a more contemporary style geared to marketing to a new clientele. This project was aimed to bring Strewn Winery in this competitive, contemporary style of marketing.Original Winery had a 11,075 sq.ft. area. I proposed an addition of 953 sq.ft.. Thus the new Winery has a 12,028 sq. ft. area.

Operable Windows located throughout lets natural air flow through the building and gives the flexibility of opening and closing windows depending on the weather

Green roofs last longer than conventional roofs, reduces energy costs for the building, creates habitat for animals, and absorbs storm water runoffs. A green sedum roof needs very little maintenance or water to survive which helps in conserving water.

The eaves drop runs along the permieter of the building which is then connected to downspouts leading to the EcoRain Tank System where it re-cycles rainwater that is used to irrigate the green roof located above the flat roofs in the second storey as well as for sur-rounding landscape

Our skylights, located in the lobby area, provide naural lighting to the space. It lowers energy costs as less artificial light is needed to light up the place especially during day time.

Radiaitng floors systems consist of warm water flowing through tubes located underneath the floors. This also ensures that the air being circulated is cleaner and produces no cold drafts. Since everything is embedded in the floors, you don’t even get to see any ductwork or floor vents.

IDEC COMPETITION 11

We propose better healthcare directed towards children and making sure that we maximize the outreach to the most rural of places. We understand that not everyone has an access to diagnostic clinics, let alone healthcare facilities. Hence it is our AIM to reach out to such population through our mobile clinic and bring those people back to the bigger permanent healthcare facility for treatment. Oplossing (Afrikaan for “Solution”) Health Care Centers are based on providing a part of the solution to the rising health problems and access to these facilities in South Africa.

R-HOUSE PAVILLION 13

The challenge was to design a booth to showcase the industry partners that helped build the R-house. Our approach to this challenge was to make this booth a part of the R-house itself and the experience that you have as you walk through the R-house should be carried on and into the booth. You are walking out of your dream, through the oasis and into a tool shed that constitutes of the tools, the industry partners that will help you achieve building this dream home.

NORMERICA DREAM HOME 15

Design a house as part of a marketing initiative by Normerica, who have been designing and building authentic timber frame homes since 1979. They are looking to expand their market base by developing a product line of contemporary modern designs. Our client is a family living in an ex-urban area. They are a couple with two teenagers. The home has a garage that can hold two cars. The family entertains a lot of guests, especially during the summer. Thus we provided lots of patio space. Both public and private spaces have equal exposure to sunlight to provide a well-light, healthy environment.
