The P.W.T. pneumatic Internal Line-up Clamp, is a clamping mechanism designed to exert a radial force

sufficient to line-up and hold in position, two joints of pipe during the welding of the root or stringer bead.

The unit is essentially two independent force mechanisms actuated by two double acting air cylinders. The air

cylinder moves in a lineal manner to actuate the mechanism to give a radial force against the inside of the

pipe.

The radial force is transmitted to the inside wall of the pipe by means of a series of plungers. The force

mechanism are mounted in a tubular frame having support wheels for longitudinal travel of the clamp. The

standard clamp is designed to be manually pulled from joint to joint by a pull rod. However, powered clamps

are available on special order. An air reservoir is also mounted in the tubular framework.

Function of main components:

The main components of the pneumatic line-up clamp are listed below.

a) Double Acting Air Cylinders

There are two double acting air cylinders used to actuate the force mechanism. The rear air cylinder actuates

the rear force mechanism or rear chuck. The front air cylinder actuates the front force mechanism or front

chuck.

b) Rear Chuck

The rear chuck is the rear force mechanism having a series of plungers for clamping the inside of the pipe. The

rear chuck is expanded after the clamp is positioned in the pipe and prior to bringing the net joint of pipe into

position.

c) Front Chuck

The front chuck is the front force mechanism having a series of plungers for clamping the inside of the pipe.

This front chuck is expanded after the incoming joint of pipe is positioned and spaced to the spacers

satisfaction.

d) Support Wheels

Four wheels mounted on the bottom side of the tubular frame provide a means to roll the clamp along the

pipe. The two rear wheels are adjustable in the vertical plane ad are used to centre the rear of the clamp in

the pipe. The two front wheels are adjustable in both the horizontal and vertical planes. This double

adjustment permits proper positioning of the front of the clamp. A spring loaded tail wheel maintains balance

of the clamp.

e) Air Reservoir

The air reservoir is a 400 PSI tested reservoir used to store air for actuating the cylinders.

f) Air Valves

Two pilot blow-off four way air valves are used to control the air cylinder. Four air blender valves are used to

remotely control the pilot blow-off valves

g) Air Filter and Lubricator

An air filter and lubricator is mounted in the tubular frame work. On the small clamps, the air filter and

lubricator is located just in from of the air reservoir. On the large clamp, they are located in the nose section.

Leakage in operation: Leak proof during the coupling time.

Manual Control: Yes.

Mechanic remote control: 14 Meters.

High level safety side brake system:

Make activity by manual and remote control and activated when the

traveling motor stop, and release automatically when the travelling

motor start.

Sound Proof: According to Euro regulation.

Manual Welding System

The Manual welding system is made up of rings each one provide with a

set of expander pistons for the centering and the alignment of pipes to

be weld.

The manual welding system can be installed on various internal clamps

construction types as pneumatic, electropneumatic, double joint, main

line and coating cement.

Optional Equipments:

ELECTRO PNEUMATIC

The Pneumatic Clamp is used for a correct centering and alignment of

pipes.

For the translation, the machine can be provided with axial piston air

motors, air vane motors or electric motors.

Its operational cycle is carried out with electrovalves by a remote

control connected to the machine with an ombelican cable.

Optional Equipments:

PURGING SYSTEM

For the execution of special welding, tight seals and a chamber for the

inert gas pressurization are assembled on the clamp.

According to the use, the frame of the clamp can be totally realized in

stainless steel or can be covered with steel only the parts of frame in

contact with pipe.

They can be provided with or without copper backing shoes.

LOAD CELL

The clamp can be provided with a tension load cell and with an

appropriate control display to check the critical tension of the buckle

detector.

BACK FITTINGS

Electric and air back fittings are assembled only on electro-pneumatic

clamps to carry out welding in parking garage for double joint automatic

or manual welding.
