I remembered when I chose Prof. Srikandi Fardiaz, a friend of mymother in IPB, as my academic advisor. I told her about my mother’sstory. The professor had the same problem, lung cancer. And, alas,she passed away in 1999. Being a foodie with expertise inmicrobiology (just like Prof. Fardiaz and my mother) was anobsession. It was my key decision when I chose Prof. Betty SriLaksmi Jenie as my research advisor. She gave me a lot ofaccessibility in laboratory to develop my skill. As a result, I wasselected to deliver speech in National Student Competition on FoodScience and Technology (Semarang, 2001) and became Best StudentAward finalist in the same year.
