Denpasar (Bali Post) –The Denpasar Cleanliness and Grounds Agency program to reduce banners

advertisement has started at the four way of Dewi Sartika Street in front ofMatahari Dept. Store last Monday (8/8). The banners will be changed to a LED(Light Emitting Diode) screen by a third party. This crossroad will be the firstplace it is placed.

Head of the Agency, Ketut Wisada, stated the banners that were taken downare the ones that has its permit expired. “The one at the top (billboard) is stillhere because the permit is still ongoing,” he stated. Connected to the cost, Wisada

admitted to not use theRegional Budget andExpenses for this, purely from the inves-tor yet government pre-pares the place and willtake retribution. At thistime, the agency isholding socialisation asmany sides includingadvertisers still don’tunderstand about LEDadvertisements as therehasn’t been any in Bali.

After this one’ssucceed, it is plannedto be also built on sev-

eral points like Teuku Umar six way and Ngurah Rai By Pass crossroad infront of McDonald Sanur. With it crowded banners will no longer fill upstreets and the Regional Real Income could even increase as LED screenscan show more adverts. (kmb12)

Based on several observations invillages of Pemaron, Panji andTegallinggah last Monday (8/8) thesecaterpillars have been around since lastApril during the plantation and comesin the mornings also afternoons.Leaves quality will go down if itseaten. According to one of the farm-ers, Agung Adnyana, explained thesecaterpillars are never gone especiallyduring the plants growing phases andwith the situation lately the caterpil-lars are adapted to the pesticides, itseemed using it won’t optimise theplants growth. “With the many cat-erpillars attacking automatically pes-ticide spraying schedule has to bedone often and eats up our produc-tion cost,” he stated.

Denpasar (Bali Post) -The commodity price that did go

higher such as rice, cooking oil, eveneggs, this coming second weekseemed stabile and according toDenpasar Industrial and TradeAgency data the food stock here isstill safe as stated by Head of theAgency, Drs. For that Denpasar House of Rep-resentatives Commission B offi-cials seemed to worry. Head of

Commission B, Eko Supriadi, ac-companied by a member, WayanMariyana Wandhira, in their of-fice last Monday (8/8) suggestednot to fix the pedestrian only butto also fix the drainage depth tobe deeper so its water flow willbe better and caused no flood. The two representatives madesure the area will not disadvan-tage the public. Food Price Stabileens have gone down to IDR 24,200per kg, also for tomatoes to IDR3,000 per kg, others are still stabile,”he explained.

It was explained the stabile situa-tion was due to the public demand infasting month is not as high as inGalungan and Kuningan day. “By thetime it’s Eid, we don’t think there’swill be a high increase as many Mus-lims are homecoming so the demandshouldn’t be too high,” he stated.

The tobacco farmers of Buleleng has a new way in tacklingcaterpillars attacking their plants, not to use more pesticidesyet catching them barehanded. Even though it’s slow, it seemedto work better than using pesticides plus its price has gone highand couldn’t be covered by their production budget.

For that, catching these pests byhand seemed a better solution doneevery morning of the day. Those thatare found on the leaves then piled anddestroyed. “It is much cheaper thismanual way and with the enoughworkers to hunt them, the result is quiteoptimal and so the plants until nowgrew normally and less holes onleave,” he clarified.

The same situation was admittedby a farmer in Panji Village, Sukasada, the caterpillars breeding phase is muchquicker than last year not knowingwhy yet farmers think it’s due to theweather. “It’s the rain that happeneduntil February causing the soils to bemoist and this is a good place for themto breed,” the farmer stated. On that ac-count, the Chief of Bali Police,Inspector General of PoliceIndra Totoy Herawan also re-minded the staff to encouragethe function of public guidanceand public relations.

In other words, they wereexpected to provide informa-tion to the public about the pro-hibition of manufacturing, de-livery, stockpiling and usingthe firecrackers or fireworks. Itwas intended to educate peoplewhat could be done and couldnot. Bali Chief Police Totoy ex-plained that to distinguish thepermitted and forbidden fire-

Ecotourism Park (TWA) in the Dasong Forest, Pancasari Village,Sukasada Subdistrict, which had led to exciting polemic is nowreally turning dormant. Two wooden mockup buildings that havebeen built by investor PT Bali Nusa Abadi look unkempt and re-semble a haunted house by the lake.

The two buildings are made entirely of wood and were estab-lished around August 2009. The large rectangular building with-out room divider is possibly intended for a lobby. Meanwhile, thebuilding located in the east is designated as a home. It remains tolook intact, but unkempt. Local residents who happen to be play-ing or fishing in the vicinity of Lake Buyan can enter freely intothe house because the windows and the doors are unlocked.

In the meantime, condition of the rectangular building resem-bling a lobby in the west has been in tatters. Most of the parquetfloors have been missing. According to information obtained fromlocal residents around the lakeside it was mentioned that parquetsof the building had been stolen. “I heard the wooden floors havebeen dismantled and stolen,” said a resident who was fishingaround the villa.

Aside from the two large buildings, there are also three smallround buildings at the area. Unfortunately, the three buildingshave collapsed. Even, the wooden signboard of the villa placed atthe entrance into the villa area has collapsed because no one takecares of it.

A resident of Pancasari Village said the villa buildings in thearea of Dasong Forest were occasionally visited by foreigners. But the resident claimed not to know whether the guests wereregular tourists or representatives of the investor. But obviously, the villa was unkempt. “I do not know whether the project will beresumed or let be dormant,” the resident added.

Meanwhile, a legislator of Buleleng House from Pancasari,Sumadra, earlier claimed that the investors had reported if thetimber of the villa was stolen. “I indeed once heard if the timberof the villa was stolen. However, I do not know about the con-tinuation of the project,” he said.

The villa development project in the region of Buyan-Tamblingan Ecotourism Park at Dasong, Pancasari Village, hadbeen drawing controversial debate. The polemic began when PTNDA was going to build villas on the block by utilizing the forestarea. Aside from being opposed by some circles, governor alsorejected the construction of the villas. However, PT NBA stillinsisted on building the two buildings in the region. Both build-ings had also been visited by the Regent of Buleleng Bagiada andthe circles of Buleleng House. But after that, the project was un-clear and until now the executive and legislature of Buleleng neverdiscussed about the project again. (kmb15)

BEIRUT — Despite five months of blister-ing attacks on dissent, the Syrian regime hasyet to score a decisive victory against a pro-democracy uprising determined to bring downthe country’s brutal dictatorship. PresidentBashar Assad still has the military muscle tolevel pockets of resistance, but the conflict hasrobbed him of almost all international support.

Even Saudi Arabia this week called for anend to the bloodshed in Syria, the first of sev-eral Arab nations to join the growing chorusagainst Assad.

The Syrian leader is being watched care-fully at home and abroad to see how long hisiron regime — which is still strong but wob-bling — will continue to use tanks, snipersand security forces on hundreds of thousandsof fervent, overwhelmingly young protesterswho keep coming back for more.

“Syria is not burying the revolution,” saidNabil Bou Monsef, a senior analyst at the Ara-bic-language An-Nahar newspaper. “Protestsare resuming everywhere, even in areas thatwere subject to crackdowns.” He added: “It isdifficult for one of the sides to win. Syria hasentered a war of attrition between the regimeand the opposition.”

There is little to stop Assad from callingupon the scorched-earth tactics that have kepthis family in power for more than 40 years. Alongtime pariah, Syria grew accustomed toshrugging off the world’s reproach long be-fore the regime started shooting unarmed pro-testers five months ago.

“There is hope if people start to pay at-tention to this,” said Biden, who also metwith Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki andPrime Minister Raila Odinga.

A drought has turned into famine be-cause little aid can reach militant-con-trolled south-central Somalia, forcing tensof thousands of Somalis who have ex-hausted all the region’s food to walk tocamps in Kenya, Ethiopia and the Somalicapital of Mogadishu.

Sri Lanka is now in its third yearof peace after destroying the TamilTiger separatists, listed by more than30 nations as a terrorist organization.

SEOUL - The world’s most closed country North Korea has nothing to reform or open up,the ruling party’s newspaper reported on Tuesday, accusing the United States of trying to im-pose its own ways to stifle socialism. But in a rare concession, the Worker’s Party official RodongSinmun newspaper, indirectly admitted something the rest of the world has been saying fordecades: its economy is in trouble.

ahead with his ideology from the1950s espousing “the ability to actindependently without regard to out-side interference.”

Further isolating the North, theoutside world has imposed economicsanctions for its pursuit of nuclearweapons and long-range missiles. But the United States and South Ko-rea are not alone in calling for theNorth to change its economic ways. Its main benefactor, and only power-ful friend, China also wants the Northto open up.

China, which has surged to be-come the world’s second largesteconomy after adopting “socialismwith Chinese characteristics,” or con-

trolled capitalism, wants the North todo the same. There have been signsthat change is in the air, with theNorth pressing on this year with thecreation of special economic zonesto attract foreign investment andboost trade. [ID:nL3E7J203K]

But the Stalinist state insists itwon’t be pressured into change by thecapitalists from Washington, whothemselves have endured a wobblypast few years with the 2008 finan-cial crisis and this year’s debt crunch.“The imperialists do not want tochange their system but work hard topressurize others to change their sys-tems as dictated by them,” RodongSinmun said.

London’s police said 14people were injured, includinga man in his 60s with life threat-ening injuries.

The riots appeared to havelittle unifying cause — thoughsome involved claimed to op-pose sharp government spend-ing cuts, which will slash wel-fare payments and cut tens ofthousands of public sector jobsthrough 2015.

But many appeared attractedsimply by the opportunity forviolence. “Come join the fun!”shouted one youth in the eastLondon suburb of Hackney, where shops were attacked andcars torched.

It has spewed volcanic ash as high as 1,000meter causing ash rain in a number of districtssuch as Agam, Tanah Datar, Pariaman,Padangpariaman and Padangpanjang. The ashhas also covered hectares of vegetable fields.

On August 6 at around 8am the mountainagain spewed thick ash as high as 300 meterfrom its crater. Until now the Mt Marapi moni-toring post has recorded dozens of explosions.

The mountain area is a conservation area andfrom the 18th century to 2008 a total of 454explosions have been recorded from the moun-tain, 50 of them in a large scale.

Many people like to climb the mountain dur-ing holiday or ahead of the new year.

One of the assets being sold is ExxonMobil OilIndonesia, which was named a defendant in a law-suit by 11 villagers who claim that ExxonMobil’ssecurity forces committed torture, rape and mur-der while protecting the company’s gas projects.

The company has rejected the allegations ofthe villagers, who first filed their lawsuit in 2001.In July, a US federal court allowed the lawsuit togo forward, the latest twist in a lengthy legal battle.

ExxonMobil did not mention the lawsuit inits statement and said that its decision to sell theassets was “consistent with ExxonMobil’s long-standing practice of continually reviewing assetsfor their contribution to ExxonMobil’s operat-ing and financial objectives”.

Aceh rebels signed a peace pact with the In-donesian government in 2005, ending nearlythree decades of conflict.

He said last year 97,402Singaporeans enjoyed the unique andbeautiful arts and culture as well asnature of the island paradise, while lastyear there were only 55,992 people, and this year their number increased73.96 percent.

“Singapore has become one of thepotential markets of Bali`s tourismwith a good prospect of increase inthe coming years,” Gede Suarsa said.

He added most Singaporeans toBali came by plane at Ngurah Rai air-port straight from their country, andonly eight came by yachts.

Singapore contributed 4.27 pct ofthe 1.30 million foreign tourists toBali in the first semester of 2011, a

After receiving his winner’scheck for Rp 50 million (almost$6,000 USD) on the podium as thesun was setting over a still pump-ing Indian Ocean, Wilson said,“This is the best win I have everhad, hands down. The 45-minute grand final was theculmination of a day filled with thekind of drama that couldn’t possiblyhave been scripted. Sunrise saw solid6-foot sets blasting into the razor sharpPadang-Padang reef, prompting thelong-awaited “ON” call just into thefourth week of the five-week waitingperiod. Heat 1 was extremely slow, with Irelands Fergal Smith only man-aging one short takeoff, before theocean awakened again to start pump-ing again.

A bizarre situation in Round 3 hadMakua Rothman paddling up the in-side and dropping in from behind onMega Semadhi, then both of them slot-ting into the barrel together before itspit them out into the channel.Rothman got the penalty and Megaadvanced, but none-the-less a veryamazing display.

Then just after Round One wascompleted, the clouds that had gath-ered began to drizzle and the onshorewinds began to make a mess of thelineup, so a break was called to seewhat the weather would do next. Af-ter about an hour, the sun began to burn

out the clouds and the Indian Oceanwave machine began once again topump out some of its world famousPadang-Padang barrels, which con-tinued non-stop until long after thesun went down.

Rip Curl’s James Hendy was allsmiles during the awards presenta-tion at the end of the day, saying,“I’m relieved and thrilled at thesame time. This was such an amaz-ing conclusion to an incredible dayof competition. There were someups and downs during the day, which just added to the drama andexcitement, but the final was betterthan we ever could have imagined. After waiting for 24 months, andbasically 4 weeks now in this 5-week waiting period, it’s such agreat feeling to end up with such amemorable final. “

In addition to having his nameinscribed on the perpetual Rip CurlCup Trophy and getting his Rp 50million in cash, Lee Wilson also re-ceived a brand new Kawasaki 150D-Tracker motorcycle fromKawasaki Indonesia for being thetop local surfer in the Rip Curl Cup.After receiving the award Wilsonsaid “I just bought a new Kawasakia few months ago, so now I havetwo! Delicacy of seafood can conjure up your appetite toask for again and again. Armed with excellentingredient and blended with appropriate proportion ofspices, it will make the serving more glorious andspecial. When you plan to travel to Bali, probably onething comes to your mind, what good food the regionoffers.

Each region has its own typical nature and uniquetradition of cuisine. Balinese people known asreligious community have a variety of food related totheir rituals. One of them is satay. To fill in theiroblation in the ritual activities, they prepare twistedsatay with minced meat or skewer satay with slicedmeat. In terms of its ingredient, the common satayused to fill in the oblation is that made of fork andchicken.

Meanwhile, satay for consumption is not only madeof chicken and fork. However, they creatively keep onfinding out some other new ingredients. Up to thesedays, there are satays made of shrimp, snail, gouramiand tuna. In harmony with the passage of time, localpeople progressively like the seafood (tuna) satay.Vendors of this satay can be found at roadsides, traditional markets and outermost courtyards orparking lots of temple during the temple anniversary.Even, in socio-religious activities like wedding or toothfiling ceremony, this satay is served to enrich thechoice of the existing menus.

This tuna satay delicacy takes advantage of theBalinese complete spices. They comprise 8 cloves ofshallot, 3 cloves of garlic, small chili (2), large chili (1),grounded lemongrass (1 stalk), candlenut (2), pepper(1/2 tsp), coriander (1/2 tsp), ginger, galangal andturmeric (respectively 1 slice), palm sugar (1 tbsp),salt (1 tsp), squeeze of lime (1 tbsp) and 10 stalks oflemongrass for skewer.

First of all, cleanse thoroughly the tuna flesh andthen smear it by the squeeze of lime. Afterward, takeaside for some 10 minutes and then grind it untiltender. Secondly, prepare the spices by grinding themwell, too. Take the tender tuna flesh, ground spices, salt, palm sugar and then mix them together evenly.Thirdly, take a stalk of lemongrass and some fleshbatter. Twist the batter around the lemongrass skewerwhile pressing. Do the same until the batter runs out.Ultimately, cook the satay by grilling over a hot fire orcharcoal embers. Attempt to make it cooked at allsides. Do not leave them unattended! In order to looknice, serve them on a garnished plate. For garnish youcan apply the slices of rape mango and flesh ofpomelo. WASHINGTON — A plung-ing stock market and a stalled U.S.economy may force the FederalReserve to use the dwindling num-ber of tools it has left in an effort toboost growth and keep the countryfrom sliding back into recession.

At the very least, the centralbank is expected to acknowledgeall the adverse things that have oc-curred since its policymaking com-mittee last met in June.

But many private economistssay they believe that the situationhas grown so dark in recent daysthat Federal Reserve ChairmanBen Bernanke and his colleagueswill be forced to do more.

On Monday, the Dow Jones in-dustrial average suffered its sixth-worst point drop in history, falling634.76 points. That decline cameafter credit rating agency Standard& Poor’s on Friday downgradedthe United States’ long-term debtbecause of what it saw as politicalgridlock that is preventing Wash-ington from making meaningfulcuts in the country’s soaring bud-get deficits.

Adding to all the uncertainty,Europe is facing huge debt prob-lems of its own. European officialsare scrambling to prevent Italy andSpain from being consumed by a21-month debt crisis that contin-ues to roil global markets and hasalready forced Greece, Ireland andPortugal to seek large bailouts.

Bernanke and Treasury Secre-tary Timothy Geithner participatedin an emergency conference callover the weekend with their col-leagues from the Group of Sevenrich industrial countries. The G-7issued a statement pledging to take“all necessary measures to supportfinancial stability and growth.”

Many economists say they be-lieve Bernanke and his Fed col-leagues should follow that pledgewith concrete action when theyhold their regular meeting Tuesday, given all the threats to the economyat present.

“I don’t think the Fed can standby,” said Mark Zandi, chief econo-mist at Moody’s Analytics. “This

To be sure, investors remainedon edge amid fears of a possibleglobal recession. But by late af-ternoon, major Asian indexes hadpulled back from a dizzying tail-spin earlier in the day. Key Eu-ropean bourses opened higher.

Futures suggested U.S. stockswould recuperate Tuesday. Dowfutures were up 307 points, or 2.9percent, at 11,032 and broaderS&P 500 futures added 33.70points, or 3 percent, to 1,145.50.

In Europe, Britain’s FTSE 100was up 0.7 percent at 5,103.Germany’s DAX rose 1.5 percentat 6,009 and the CAC-40 in Parisjumped 2.1 percent at 3,191.

Some analysts said short cov-ering — when traders are forcedto buy stock after having earliersold borrowed shares in a betthat the market would fall —may have stanched the flow ofmoney out of equities earlier inthe day. Short covering generallycauses stocks to go up.

“Fear and anxiety ruled themorning session with broadbased capitulation giving way tosome mild buying and seriousshort covering this afternoon,”Ben Potter, market strategist atIG Markets in Melbourne, saidin a research note.

South Korea’s Kospi lost 3.6percent to 1,801.35 after plum-meting nearly 10 percent in themorning. Hong Kong’s HangSeng, which fell as much as 7percent, was down 2.3 percent at20,024.93.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 stock av-erage pulled back from a fall ofmore than 4 percent to close 1.7percent lower at 8,944.48 — itslowest closing since March 15— just days after the earthquakeand tsunami disasters.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 in-dex moved into positive territory— closing up 1.2 percent at4,034.80 — while mainlandChina’s key indexes fell mod-estly.

BANGKOK — World stock markets stabilized Tuesday af-ter a day of dramatic plunges as futures pointed to a measureof calm returning to Wall Street following the Dow’s sixth-worstdecline in the last 112 years.

days, came after the Dow Jonesindustrials fell 634.76 points onMonday. It was Wall Street’s firstday of trading after Standard &Poor’s downgrade of the U.S.credit rating — which jolted theglobal financial system and rein-forced anxiety that the U.S. eco-nomic recovery is stalling.

“It’s still very hard to predicthow the U.S. market will do,”said Jackson Wong, vice presi-dent of Tanrich Securities inHong Kong. “When the dustsettles, if the situation doesn’t getworse in the U.S. or Europe, thesituation will rebound. But theU.S. has to stabilize.”

Worries about the U.S. eco-nomic recovery have been build-ing since the government saidthat economic growth was farweaker in the first half of 2011than economists expected. Inten-sifying concerns were reportsshowing that the manufacturingand services industries barelygrew in July, although job growthwas better than economists ex-pected last month.

Investors are also worried thatItaly and Spain could become thenext European countries to havetrouble repaying their debts.Greece, Ireland and Portugalhave already received bailoutloans because of Europe’s 21-month-old debt crisis.

The fears have pushed inves-tors to shun Spanish and Italianbonds, which have led to higheryields and in even higher bor-rowing costs for the two coun-tries.

The European Central Bankstepped in Monday and boughtbillions of euros worth of theirbonds. The move helped to loweryields on Spanish and Italianbonds, at least temporarily.

Benchmark oil for Septemberdelivery traded at $79.47 on theNew York Mercantile Exchangeafter falling to $75.71, its lowestsince September 2010. The con-tract settled at $81.31 per barrelon the Nymex on Monday.

Fed may react to market plunge and stalled economy

is a crisis of confidence and the Fedneeds to shore up confidence.”

Many analysts expect the Fed tochoose among a menu of options thatBernanke laid out in his mid-year tes-timony to Congress in July.

Among the options Bernanke dis-cussed was providing a clear indica-tion in the Fed’s statement about howlong the central bank intends to keepinterest rates at record lows. More ex-plicit language on interest-rate policymight boost investors’ confidence ata dangerous moment for the globaleconomy.

The central bank for more thantwo years has pledged to keep its tar-get for the federal funds at “excep-tionally low” levels for an “extendedperiod” while never spelling out justhow long “extended” might be. Thefunds rate has remained at zero to0.25 percent for nearly three years.

In his congressional testimony,Bernanke said the Fed might alsoprovide more clarity over the timeperiod that it will keep its holdingsof Treasury securities at record lev-els. By buying Treasury bonds, theFed has sought to drive down long-term interest rates that govern suchkey activities as home purchases

and business borrowing deci-sions.

On June 30, the Fed ended a$600 billion bond buying pro-gram, its second such effort, butit pledged to keep its holdings ofthose bonds constant until theeconomy started to improve.

Many investors would like tosee the Fed launch a third roundof bond buying. But the programhas triggered a sharp debate in-side the Fed about whether fur-ther bond purchases could set thestage for inflation down the road.

“There will be a high hurdlefor considering a third round ofbond buying,” said David Jones, chief economist at DMJ Advi-sors, a Denver economic consult-ing firm. “Fed officials who op-posed the second round will ar-gue that the Fed has done all itcan to help the economy and any-thing more will risk higher infla-tion down the road.”

Bernanke this year made anhistoric change by schedulingnews conferences after four of theFed’s eight policy meetings eachyear, but the session Tuesday isnot one of those.

LOS ANGELES — A federal judge has indicated she is leaningtoward dismissing most of an Iraq war veteran’s lawsuit against themakers of “The Hurt Locker” but may allow him to pursue his keyclaim that the Oscar-winning film is based on his life.

and screenwriter Mark Boal. Boal wasembedded with Sarver’s unit in Iraq andspent a month profiling him for a storyhe wrote for Playboy magazine titled“The Man in the Bomb Suit.” The ser-geant claims Boal had no right use hislife as a template for “Hurt Locker.”

Boal, Bigelow and the film’s pro-ducers have denied Sarver is thebasis for the film. Sarver’s attorney,Todd J. Weglarz, said that ifNguyen’s tentative ruling stands, said the misappropriation claim “isthe essence of this case.”

Attorneys for Boal, Bigelow andthe film’s producers urged Nguyento reconsider her initial ruling, ar-

guing that “The Hurt Locker” boresome resemblance to Sarver’s experi-ence, but that it contained numerouscreative elements that made it deserv-ing of First Amendment protection.

If Sarver were allowed to continuethe case, which he first filed in New Jer-sey, it could have a chilling effect onother films based on real-world events, attorneys for the filmmakers argued.

“That’s going to directly impactartists, directors, filmmakers in thefuture,” said Jeremiah Reynolds, an at-torney for Bigelow and Boal.

Summit Entertainment attorney DavidHalberstadter said most of the similaritiesbetween Sarver and the film’s protagonistplayed by Jeremy Renner were elementscommon to most soldiers, and the filmincluded numerous scenes that Boal neverwitnessed Sarver performed. Weglarz dis-agreed, saying traits of his client and simi-lar details about his personal life are presentin Renner’s character.

IN SEPTEMBER of 2010, ULTra PRT, a manufacturer of electricpod cars, and officials at the Heathrow Airport began operational test-ing on pods that transport visitors to the airport from the terminal tothe parking lot.

After successful tests, passenger service began in April of this year.Twenty-two pods have replaced 2 diesel-powered buses that usuallymade over 200 trips a day between the lots and the terminals. The podstravel on designated routes and don’t interfere with traffic moving intothe lots. Each pod takes about 5 to 6 minutes to travel the 1.2 milesfrom the terminal to the car park and all the pods collectively transportabout 800 passengers a day.

Each pod can carry between four to six passengers as well as lug-gage. The pods top out at about 25 miles per hour and can operateduring inclement weather including light to moderate snowfall.Heathrow officials claim that the reliability of the cars is around 95percent an they require little maintenance.

When a visitor to the airport enters the vehicle, they choose a desti-nation from a touchscreen. This means that the vehicles only operatewhen a user gives a command instead of wasting electricity whilemoving in a loop. Users can also choose to share the pod with othertravelers and choose multiple destinations along the route. Similar to amonorail system, the vehicles use an automated voice on the speakersystem to inform the passenger when getting close to the destination.

Based off continued success with the electric pods at Heathrow Air-port, ULTra PRT hopes that businesses and governments will invest insimilar systems for office parks and dense urban areas. Cost per milefor installation of the system will run a company between $7 to $15million. ULTra PRT claims that the electric pods are 50 percent moreefficient than buses or trams and between 70 to 90 percent more effi-cient than operating automobiles.

Since January, Texas has only got-ten about 6 inches of rain, comparedto a norm of about 13 inches, makingit the most severe one-year drought onrecord. “The fact that it’s very fast and flowing has helped theYamahas in the past seasons and I think Jorge will bestrong there, so I will be watching for him,”said Stoner. “We’ll be working on overcom-ing some of the issues we’ve had in thefast corners at circuits this year and wewill certainly be looking for the win,or at the very least some more im-portant championship points.”

after a disappointingly distant fourth last time out at LagunaSeca.

“We arrive in Brno very motivated as we want to redeemthe disappointing result of Laguna,” he said. “Brno is a fasttrack, the curves have a long range so the speed in the midcorner is high. I’m confident that we can be competitive there, the Honda machine is working very well and the characteris-tics of the track suit my riding style too.

“It’s similar to Mugello and we look for a good result. Casey,Dani [Pedrosa] and Jorge will be strong rivals, but I’m confi-dent that we will be able to fight with them. We are deter-

mined to return on the podium. This is our target.”
