BODY LANGUAGE Known to be conservative Personal space is about an arms length DO NOT place feet on furniture DO NOT fidget with hands NEVER FIG (place your thumb in between your index & middle finger while making a fist)

DINING MANNERS If someone offers/orders food, accept it Keep both hands above table, not in lap Do not any noises or sounds while eating Take small bites of the food Talk with an empty mouth “Drinking” is acceptable Pushing the limit of “drinking” is unacceptable

GIFT GIVING Always accept one’s gift Bring bottle of wine or flowers to each occasion Avoid lilies – usually reserved for funerals

CLOTHING Costa Ricans take pride in appearance Business situations, both genders dress
