1. Apa yang disebut Jurnal Internasional?• An international journal is a journal where the aims and scope are of interest

to a wider international scientific community within a specific subject field.

• Moreover, an international journal has a good diversity of authors, readers and editorial board members with representation from different regions and countries. Some journals may have an International Advisory Board to represent this internationality.

• The published content should also be in line with the stated aims and scope and be of interest to the international scientific community.

• Note: just the word “International” reflected in the actual title of the journal does not make the journal an international journal.

Peran Editor• Maintain and develop the journal’s profile and reputation;

• Ensure a supply of high-quality manuscripts;

• Ensure that the subject matter of the manuscripts reflects any changes of direction in the field of study to incorporate newly-emerging work; this may necessitate inviting articles or special issues;

• Continually engage the editorial board on the progress of the journal and update and include them on ideas for editorial development;

• Promote the journal to peers and colleagues;

The Editorial Board• The editorial board, sometimes known as the (editorial) advisory board, is a

team of individuals in the journal’s field.

• The board’s role consists of:

◦ Expertise in subject matter;

◦ Reviewing submitted manuscripts;

◦ Advising on journal policy and scope;

◦ Identifying subjects and conferences for special issues which they might also help to organize and/or guest edit;

◦ Attracting new authors and submissions; and

◦ Ideally submitting some of their own work for consideration.

Additional editorsMultiple editors may sit between the editor and the editorial board, and can also be referred to as:

• Co-Editors;

• Associate Editors;

• Section Editors;

• Editorial Advisors;

• Editorial Committee Members.

2. Mengapa Perlu International Citation Indexes?• Indexation of a journal is considered a reflection of its quality. Indexed

journals are considered to be of higher scientific quality as compared to non-indexed journals.

Apa Saja yang Termasuk dalam International Citation Indexes?• For a long-time Index Medicus has been the most comprehensive index

of medical scientific journal articles. It is being publication since 1879.

• Over the years, many other popular indexation services have developed. These include MedLine, PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, EBSCO, and ISI-Thomson Reuters.

• Recently many more indexation services have come up. These include Caspur, DOAJ, Expanded Academic ASAP, Genamics Journal Seek, Hinari, Index Copernicus, Open J Gate, Primo Central, Pro Quest, SCOLOAR, SIIC databases, Summon by Serial Solutions, Ulrich's International Periodical Directory, Google Scholar, etc.

What does inclusion in Scopus mean for a journal?

A journal that is suggested to Scopus and accepted for inclusion will:

• Gain international visibility;

• Increase the opportunity for collaboration with other researchers from around the world;

• Increase the possibility of the article content having additional citations due to the enhanced accessibility;

• Be contributing to the wider scholarly community in the specialist subject field.

DOAJ: Principles of Transparency• Peer review process: Journal content must be clearly marked as whether peer reviewed or not.

This process, as well as any policies related to the journal’s peer review procedures, shall be clearly described on the journal's Web site.

• Governing Body: Journals shall have editorial boards or other governing bodies whose members are recognized experts in the subject areas included within the journal's scope. The full names and affiliations of the journal's editors shall be provided on the journal's Web site.

• Editorial team/contact information: Journals shall provide the full names and affiliations of the journal's editors on the journal's Web site as well as contact information for the editorial office.

• Author fees: Any fees or charges that are required for manuscript processing and/or publishing materials in the journal shall be clearly stated in a place that is easy for potential authors to find prior to submitting their manuscripts.

• CopyrightCopyright and licensing information shall be clearly described on the journal's Web site, and licensing terms shall be indicated on all published articles, both HTML and PDFs.

DOAJ: Principles of Transparency• Process for identification of and dealing with allegations of research misconduct: The

publisher or editor shall follow COPE's guidelines (or equivalent) in dealing with allegations.

• Ownership and management: Information about the ownership and/or management of a journal shall be clearly indicated on the journal's Web site.

• Web site: A journal's Web site, including the text that it contains, shall demonstrate that care has been taken to ensure high ethical and professional standards.

• Name of journal: The Journal name shall be unique and not be one that is easily confused with another journal or that might mislead potential authors and readers about the Journal's origin or association with other journals.

• Conflicts of interest: A journal shall have clear policies on handling potential conflicts of interest of editors, authors, and reviewers and the policies should be clearly stated.

• Access: The way(s) in which the journal and individual articles are available to readers and whether there are associated subscription or pay per view fees shall be stated.

DOAJ: Principles of Transparency• Revenue sources: Business models or revenue sources (eg, author fees, subscriptions,

advertising, reprints, institutional support, and organizational support) shall be clearly stated or otherwise evident on the journal's Web site.

• Advertising: Journals shall state their advertising policy if relevant, including what types of ads will be considered, who makes decisions regarding accepting ads and whether they are linked to content or reader behavior (online only) or are displayed at random.

• Publishing schedule: The periodicity at which a journal publishes shall be clearly indicated.

• Archiving: A journal's plan for electronic backup and preservation of access to the journal content (for example, access to main articles via CLOCKSS or PubMedCentral) in the event a journal is no longer published shall be clearly indicated.

• Direct marketing: Any direct marketing activities, including solicitation of manuscripts that are conducted on behalf of the journal, shall be appropriate, well targeted, and unobtrusive.

• What issues of my journal should I send for evaluation?We evaluate only current and upcoming issues. Back issues are not part of the review process. A minimum of three consecutive current issues will need to be evaluated. The publisher must provide full access to consecutive current issues, as they are published, one at a time, to Thomson Reuters, throughout the evaluation process until a decision is made on coverage.

• Is there a format preference for journals?We can work with print or electronic formats but we prefer electronic.

• Did you receive my initial submission for evaluation?We acknowledge electronic submissions on a regular basis. However, this is only for the initial submission. Subsequent issues do not receive an acknowledgement of receipt. You can check on the status of your evaluation by filling out the journal status form found here.
