news match MATAMORAS ROD & GUN CLUB VOL. 3 • No. 2 MAY 2013 This Memorial Day weekend match drew only 14 shooters, two of which were Juniors. I am hoping that people had other obligations this holiday weekend rather than the ammo shortage as the cause of the low attendance. A moment of silence was observed before the start of the match in honor of all those who served and are serving our country. With the small squads, all stages were completed by Noon. Cathy D served us a fine pulled pork lunch which was made by Ralph C. After lunch, 9 of the 14 shooters stayed and shot the 3 gun side match. The 50/50 drawing was won by Brent D. It was good to see Greg F, Tim B and Quadray back at the range. The pistol match was won by Peter B with Sal P and Brendon K coming in 2nd and 3rd. While Peter B won all the stages, the battle for 2nd and 3rd place in the stages was passed around between Brendon K, Sal P, Scott Q and Craig S. There were no zero points down shooters but single digit points down goes to Ralph C (2), Scott Q (4) and Dick D (6). I talked to Craig S who admitted he paid too much attention to the prop which caused him to shoot 18 points down. This one distraction caused Craig to lose his 2nd place overall position in the match. It was also the last stage he had to shoot in the match. Little things make a big difference. The 3 gun stage involved running to and picking up the rifle, then putting 2 rounds on each of 2 targets half concealed by hard cover at 40 yards, then running to the shotgun and shooting 4 steel plates and finally running to the pistol where you had to engage 3 targets with 2 rounds each. The match was won by Sal P with Scott Q and Seth D coming in 2nd and 3rd. Sal’s performance was amazing in under than 40 seconds WITH a dropped round during the shotgun portion. Accuracy honors goes to Dick D (5), Sal P (5), Ralph C (6) and Scott Q (6). Thanks to all who participated and support these matches. Our next action pistol match will be on June 23rd. See you at the range. Peter
