NEW FOCUSAmerican Institutes for Research (AIR) created IDER in 2013 to redirect our international work to provide low and middle-income countries and international development agencies with well-integrated research, evaluation, educational assessment and technical assistance.
Closer alignment of our domestic and international work will yield better results for international development agencies and the governments and other stakeholder partners. That matters because:
1.2 billion people still live in extreme poverty, but that’s 700 million fewer than in 1990, and together we may be able to end such extreme poverty in the coming decades.
Most of the world’s estimated 93 million out-of-school children are girls who still can’t start or finish school, but targeted programs have steadily reduced gender-based school enrollment gaps around the world.
Hundreds of thousands of youth in middle-income countries are unem-ployed for lack of basic skills, but economic growth combines with new government policies and innovative programs to help these youth and their communities get ahead.
Dualities like these inspire us to redouble our international efforts in sustained partnerships with research-ers and policymakers around the world. That way, our impact goes beyond individual projects and products to help build and sustain a thriving international evaluation field.
