  • Information on India General info. India is the seventh largest country by area. It is approximately 3 287 590 square kilometres. The population of India is over 1.2 billion people. The most commonly spoken language is Hindi India has a total water surface of 360, 400 square kilometres. The main religions of India are Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism.

  • Information on India Main Industries India is home to the third largest fishing industry. Has mining of coal, iron, magnesium as well as oil reserves. India is also involved in : -the automobile industry -computer technology -textile -animal husbandry( management and care of animals for profit; e.g. livestock such as cattle, pigs, chicken, etc.)

  • The Culture of India India is a very diverse country with each district having different cultures Some main celebrations are Diwali- a five day celebration that represents the start of a new year. Genesh Chaturthi- an eleven day festival that honors their god. Holi- a two day festival that celebrates victory over evil.   • UNIQUE COOKING METHODS Zammin Doz A style of cooking in which a hole is dug in the ground and the ingredients, placed in a clay pot, are put in the hole then covered with mud and burning charcoals This process of cooking takes about six hours to complete

  • UNIQUE COOKING METHODS Dum Dum literally means to steam. It is a method of cooking on a very low flame, with the ingredients inside a dough which then placed in a pot with the steam entrapped in the sealed container. This method of cooking allows for all of the flavors of the ingredients to come out.

  • THE FOOD PATTERNS OF INDIA A typical Indian will eat two full meals a day with substantial snacking in between. Only the right hand is used in dining Breakfasts include rice or bread, a pickled fruit or vegetable, and a dal dish Snack foods consist of food similar to breakfasts and are consumed with coffee or tea Dinner is the main meal of the day and usually includes at least one rice dish, a curried vegetable or meat dish, a baked or fried bread, a pickled fruit or vegetable, and a yogurt. Dessert is usually served with fruit Common beverages include water, milk, buttermilk, sugarcane juice, fruit juice and soda. All courses of the meal are placed on the table at the same time Guests are served first at mealtime.
