INTERNATIONAL PARTY OPA! GREEK FOOD AND FUN!
The Davis Senior Center and Senior Citizens of Davis bring you Opa! Greek Food and Fun!, a celebration of Greek culture, on Tuesday, April 12, 11:30 a.m. ‐ 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, $8 for SCD members, and will include wonderful Greek food catered by The Californian, assisted living facility, as well as exciting entertainment and raffle prizes! Act now—the deadline to buy tickets is Friday, April 8. Don’t forget to bring quarters! We will feature our special bidding raffle again this year as a Center fundraiser. Each donated item will have a designated bid value (e.g., 25¢, 50¢, $1). If you want a particular item, you place your bid (cash!) in the bidding container on your table. If your name is drawn and you have placed a bid, then you win the prize. If you did not place a bid, then the prize goes to the next name drawn. By placing a bid on each item, you increase your chances to win a prize while supporting the many programs and services offered at the Senior Center. Even if you bid on every item, you won’t have to spend more than $10 in quarters!
ROYAL WEDDING FEVER RELAPSE! Hard on the heels of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s “Wedding of the Century,” Royal author Susan Maxwell Skinner will speak about her many years with Princess Diana’s press corps and exhibit a portion of her “Dianabilia” collection on May 13 at 2:00 p.m. Fellow collectors are also encouraged to bring items. More details in next month’s Scene, or call the front desk. Admission is $7 and the first 50 attendees will receive a commemorative coin celebrating the nuptials of William’s parents. Funds raised will support the Center’s programs and services. Ms. Skinner’s collection of royal souvenirs will also be featured in an April 25 documentary on The Learning Channel.

Genealogy Club — Border Cross‐ings
On Monday, April 25 at 1:00 p.m., the monthly meeting topic will be Border Crossings. If you have any ancestor crossing any U.S. border, this presentation may hold the key to finding valuable information. Lorenzo Cuesta has been researching his genealogy since the mid 1960s. It all started because his mom “refused to tell him about her in‐laws.” It was helped by the fact that his father was full of family stories that sounded manicured and polished. Lorenzo has made repeated trips to little towns in Mexico to visit the churches where grand‐parents and great grandparents were baptized, married, and mourned. His research, just as yours, has been blocked by relatives, misguided county clerks, and others. He has obtained a great deal of secondary and collaborative data that has led to productive inquiries. His presentation will show you how you can obtain this valuable data. In addition, our Discussion Group meeting on April 18 at 1 p.m will be held in the Library at the Senior Center. Guests are always welcome and en‐couraged to come to all meetings!
