Unanimous approval bythe exhibitorsAccording to exhibitors, the RailwayIndustry Show, BcnRail 2009, far ex-ceeded expectations, confirming it asa benchmark event for the nationalsector. Highlighted issues to be impro-ved were internationalisation and morecompanies from auxiliary sectors.

These are some of the opinions recor-ded in the hours leading up to the closeof the show.

“This has been an assembly with arecord participation in the history ofour association”AURELIO ROJO, secretary general of ALAMYS

“The show has been a big boost for us. We thinkit was a good bet to organise the 23rd ALAMYSAssembly together with BcnRail 2009, so muchso that this has been a record participation inthe history of our association with over 400delegates from 16 countries. We would like tofind ways of collaborating with BcnRail in thefuture”.

“A 10 to the organisational team”JOAN VENTOSA, delegate councillor of RailtechEspaña

“I would give a 10 to the team who organisedBcnRail 2009. I congratulate them for their workand hope they continue long these lines. Spainis a country with a long railway tradition whichneeded a show like this one.”

“We were surprised by the qualityof the exhibition”JORGE CATURLA, sales manager of DILAX IntelcomGMBH

“We have been surprised by the quality of theexhibition. We would have liked to have seenmore international visitors, but I believe that theshow is on the right track. The sector is matureenough for BcnRail to be a benchmark show”.

BCNRAIL INNOVA exhibitsthe research potential ofthe Spanish railwayindustry

Under the title BcnRail Innova, Techno-logical Projects and Innovations in theRailway Industry and with the collabo-ration of the Spanish Railways Founda-tion, the show featured the sector’sR&D&I in a space dedicated to showingsome of the research projects currentlyunderway, developed mainly within theframework of the 2004-2007 and 2008-2011 National Plans for the railwayindustry. The exhibition, which included63 explanatory posters about otherprojects promoted by companies, re-search and development centres anduniversities, showcased the innovativepotential of the Spanish railway industryand confirmed the close collaborationexisting in this field between the publicand private sector.

“The sector needs a show like thisone”ERNESTO RUIZ, export manager, DANOBAT GROUP

“BcnRail 2009 has been much better than BcnRail2007. We believe the show has to promote moreinternationalisation and help to generate railwayculture. Spain is the country where the most isbeing invested in the railways and we need toknow how to make the most of this circumstance. The sector needs a show like this one”.

“Participating in the show hasallowed us to meet new clients”JOAN CABARROCAS, area manager TECALUMINDUSTRIAL

“Thanks to Railgrup, we have been able to bepresent in BcnRail 2009. It has been a positiveexperience, since we have made contact withcompanies that are very representative of therailway sector. We are manufacturers of aluminiumprofiles and participating in the show has allowedus to meet new clients”.

“Much better than in 2007”ANA FERNÁNDEZ, sales manager, PLANYTEC

“It has been a positive experience. For us, it hasbeen much better than in 2007. Of course, wewould like it to be a more international show in2011. BcnRail is an interesting meeting pointand should be the only railway event in ourcountry”.

“The show has enormous growthpotential”ANTONIO MONTÉ, Harting Iberia

“I believe the show has fur ther to go. It hasenormous growth potential, which should continueto be exploited. I consider it to be a good start, but I think BcnRail has to attract more foreigncompanies. I am grateful to Railgrup for theinitiative that allowed us to participate in BcnRailat their stand”.

“More contacts in four days than invarious months”BEATRIZ DE DIEGO, marketing operative, SICE

“We are happy with our first par ticipation inBcnRail. We have found quality visitors and wethink the joint organisation of BcnRail with theALAMYS Assembly was a good idea. We havemade many more contacts in four days than invarious months. Social relations established ata show like this one add value to the event. Wewill be back in 2011”.

Presence and support ofpublic administrations

BcnRail 2009 boasted the presenceand support of the main Public Admi-nistrations, major promoters of railwayinfrastructure works being carried outin our country. Presentations of someof these important projects, such asthe extension of the high-speed network, the construction of new metro lines, such as the Barcelona L9 and the tramor light rail in various Spanish cities, were highlights at the respective standsof institutions, such as the Ministry ofPublic Works, the Catalan Generalitatand the Valencia Generalitat.

An exhibition representative of the mostimmediate future proposals, which Joa-quim Nadal, councillor for TerritorialPolicy and Public Works of the CatalanGeneralitat, has defined as “the centuryof the second railway revolution". In addition to the commercial exhibition,

BcnRail hosted a full programme of sideevents to debate the sector’s currentsituation and major railway projects ofthe future. A highlight, because of itsimportance and level of representation, was the 23rd General Assembly of theLatin American Association of Metrosand Undergrounds (ALAMYS), organisedby the General Secretariat of this asso-ciation in collaboration with TMB, RenfeOperadora, Tramvia Metropolita de Bar-celona and FGC, which assembled over400 delegates from 16 countries andachieved a record participation in thehistory of the association.

Six round tables were held at the con-gress and topics included Barcelonametro’s new Line 9, the developmentof the high speed network in Spain andmajor Latin American metro projects.

The Latin American Association of Me-tros and Undergrounds (ALAMYS) wascreated in 1987 with the aim of facili-tating the exchange of experiences andtechnologies among member companiesof Latin America and the Iberian Penin-sula, and currently has 30 associatemembers, 74 adherent members and5 honorary members.

The show contributed tothe success of the 23rdALAMYS Assembly

“The Spanish railway industry neededan event such as this one”GEMA GONZALO, Department of CommunicationRailway Transport Division SIEMENS

“It has been a show with much activity. We thinkthat holding BcnRail and the ALAMYS Assemblyhas been a great initiative. It has been demons-trated that the Spanish railway industry neededan event such as this one and BcnRail shouldbe the benchmark show for the sector on anational level”.

“For auxiliary companies it is animportant business opportunity”ELVIRA MARTÍN, executive secretary, Asociaciónde Industrias de Acabados de Superficies (AIAS)

“We have detected a quality audience and wewould have liked more representation of smallcompanies from the auxiliary industry of therailway sector. The railway sector is undergoingexpansion and it is an important business oppor-tunity for auxiliary companies”.

“We have made interesting businesscontacts”ANTONIO HERNÁNDEZ BAJO, operations manager,GMV

“We believe that there was a lack of suppliers ofauxiliary systems from the railway sector and wethink the show should have a more internationaldimension. Spain has a strong railway industryand the show should be just as strong. Despiteeverything, we have made interesting businesscontacts”.

“Barcelona is the ideal venue”NICOLAS DE MOUCHERON, director of Ubifrancein Spain

“Globally, we have many interesting contacts. Webelieve that there should only be one railwayindustry show and we think that, because of itsgeo-strategic location and industrial and tradefair tradition, Barcelona is the ideal venue. BcnRailhas to continue growing.”
