Rotary Australia World Community Service – Western Region
A Program that covers water quality and supply, health, hunger and low cost housing.
RAWCS is a division of Rotary Australia World Community Service Limited, a company
established by R.I. in Australia to support the delivery of International Service projects by
Australian Rotarians.
This Committee co-ordinates international projects
undertaken by Rotary Clubs in Districts’ 9455 and 9465.
Its purpose is to ensure that donated funds and materials reach their intended destination.
RAWCS is registered under the Charitable Collections Act and is also recognised by the Australian Taxation Office as a deductible gift
recipient (donations over $2 AUD are tax deductible).
Donations in Kind
Donated and usable products are collected, sorted and stored and on
request despatched to Rotary Australia World Community Service international
projects
Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM)
A major project to minimise the death and suffering caused by malaria, including the coordination of the
provision and supply of mosquito nets and suitable housing for malaria
affected areas.
Safe Water Save Lives (SWSL)
To supply potable water to people in overseas communities by planned water
catchments, storage and reticulation through volunteers, funding or both. To benefit the community by education and
training and water systems, tank construction, hygiene and related health
programs.
Ring Pulls
Aluminium ring pulls are collected and sold locally and the proceeds (from the two Western Australian Districts) are
sent via RAWCS – Western Region – to the Prosthesis Foundation in Chiang
Mai Thailand.
Interplast
Interplast Australia was established to provide reconstructive surgery in developing countries such as the Pacific basin and South East Asia.
Teams usually consist of two surgeons, an anaesthetist and a theatre nurse who spend two
weeks in the field.
The program also assists surgeons from developing countries to train in Australia so that eventually
their particular country will become self sufficient in reconstructive plastic surgery.
Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC)
ROMAC provides medical treatment for children in developing countries in the form of life-saving or dignity restoring
surgery.
ROMAC takes in children up to the age of 15 years from Asia and the Pacific region to be treated by Volunteer surgeons and
their teams in major hospitals around Australia and New Zealand. Rotarians and
Clubs host patients and their carers.
Shelterbox Australia
Shelterbox delivers humanitarian aid and relief on a worldwide basis in the form of
material and equipment that provides shelter, warmth and comfort to people
displaced by natural and other disasters.
Sustainable Cambodia (Australia)
A Western Australian Rotary Coordinating Committee assisting the village people of Cambodia. This Committee works hand in
hand with rural families empowering them with self help sustainable projects. Projects include
clean water, nutrition, health, education and economic opportunities in the development of
the villages and their families, with self reliance on their ability to sustain and continually
improve their quality of life.
Rotary Friendship Exchange
This is a Rotary International Program to foster international fellowship between
Rotarians, without cost to Rotary International. It is a District to District or
Club to Club Program. It is expected to be reciprocal. All expenses are the
responsibility of the participants, however, hosting by Rotary families is the principle of
these exchanges.
Stamps for Overseas Aid
Used postage stamps, on or off envelopes, are sold overseas to assist OXFAM and
hospital projects through Rotary Clubs in India.
Rotary Australia BenevolentSociety – RABS
• Created to assist Rotary Clubs respond to needs within their own communities while gaining a Tax deductibility.
• Main criteria is that is provides direct relief to people in need.
• The relief should be, i.e. a place to sleep, counselling and support including food and money.
• Projects must arouse the compassion of your community.
I encourage you and your Clubs to consider
International Service Projects and the benefits they provide
to communities outside of Australia.
