Falls from height continue to pose serious risks to the health and safety of workers worldwide. The ISFP Sym-posium brings together world-renowned experts in the eld of fall protection and provides a platform for

attendees to discuss and learn about the most current tools and methods for controlling and eliminating fall hazards. Attendees will learn about the latest advances in the eld of fall protection, as well as guidance for safe work at height.

Throughout the symposium, expert presentations and panel discussions will cover a full range of global fall protection topics, including horizontal lifelines, models for fall arrest testing, and industrial rope access tech-niques.

OBJECTIVES

• Provide a forum for discussion and exchange of fall protection information• Promote research and further study in key areas aff ecting work at height• Facilitate discussion of issues directly impacting the industry• Generate and implement joint national activities

ABOUT ISFPSince its inception in 1988, the International Society for Fall Protection (ISFP), a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profi t organization, has been dedicated to reducing fall-related injuries and fatalities by promoting research and facilitating communication among industry professionals. Its mission:

to be the international voice and forum for fall protection information exchange. For more information about the ISFP, visit www.isfp.org.

ABOUT ASSEFounded in 1911, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) promotes the expertise, leadership and commitment of its 37,000 global members, while providing them with professional development, advocacy and standards development. It also sets the occupational safety, health and environmental community’s standards for excellence and ethics. www.asse.org

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29 1:15PM-2:00PM KEYNOTE: HOPE YOU DON’T FALL…. Focusing on the people, equipment, documentation and maintenance of a fall protection program, this session encourages employers to actively pursue a zero-fall program rather than hope that a fall does not occur. Case studies and examples will be utilized in conjunction with ANSI/ASSE Z359.2. Kevin Denis, Gravitec Systems Inc.

2:15PM-3:30PM IMPACT FORCES GENERATED BY AERIAL SILK CIRCUS PERFORMERS

Leonard Pianalto & Kelsey Van Steele, Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd. Consulting Engineers

2:15PM-3:30PM SRLS TECHNOLOGIES, APPLICATIONS AND BEST PRACTICES

Dan Henn, Reliance Industries

3:45PM-5:00PM THE TRAVEL RESTRAINT ENVELOPE The Hierarchy of Safety distinguishes between fall arrest and travel restraint, with every effort to reduce risk to the most practical extent. This study takes a closer look at the threshold where a travel restraint system may become a fall arrest system and introduces the concept of the Travel Restraint Envelope. Leonard Pianalto & Kelsey Van Steele, Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd. Consulting Engineers

3:45PM-5:00PM BRAZILIAN LAWS, REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS ON WORK AT HEIGHT The presenter will cover aspects related to work at height, including fall protection PPE, anchor devices, structural anchors, rope access, ladders, and scaffolding, as well as information on responsibilities, training and rescue according to Brazilian laws, regulations and standards. Miguel Branchtein, Brazil Ministry of Labor and Employment

THURSDAY, JUNE 307:30AM-8:00AM GENERAL STATE OF THE FALL PROTECTION INDUSTRY To kick off the second day of the 2016 ISFP Symposium, ISFP’s president, Thom Kramer, will provide an update on the state of the fall protection industry.

8:15AM-9:15AM KEYNOTE: FALL PROTECTION FOR THE LIGHTWEIGHT WORKER By utilizing techniques for design of U.S. aircrew protection and escape systems, learn how the U.S. Navy designed a fall protection program to provide improved protection to this segment of the population. Shawn Smith and Katie Miller, U.S. Navy

9:30AM-10:30AM TESTING OF A PRACTICAL METHOD FOR ANCHORING FALL PROTECTION SYSTEMS TO PARTIALLY CONSTRUCTED WOOD ROOFSThe Canadian Home Builder’s Association developed a method for reinforcing skeletal wood trusses to provide fall protection anchors to protect workers installing roof sheeting and the final roof membrane. The presentation reviews the considerations for the design, testing, and performance of this system. In addition to several important and surprising findings. Greg Small & Brittany Baltimore, High Engineering Corporation

9:30AM-10:30AM YOUR HARNESS HAS ARRESTED YOUR FALL – WHAT NOW? Understand the dangers of suspension trauma and how to identify and use safety harnesses which are capable of eliminating the onset of such a debilitating health risk. Profits and production are increased by ensuring that return to work times can be dramatically reduced given employers are using the most suitable safety equipment. Tim Briglia & Paul Stibilj, SAS Safety Systems Pty Ltd

10:45AM-11:45AM LOAD TESTING: WHEN, HOW AND WHY? Rupert Noton, LJB Inc.

10:45AM-11:45AM RESULTS OF 24 MONTHS OUTDOOR WEATHERING OF ROPES USED IN FALL ARREST EQUIPMENT Lifelines made of synthetic fiber materials degrade due to wear and exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, weather, an aggressive environment and of combinations of these elements which lead to a loss of strength of ropes which, if used, have a risk of rupture during the stop of an accidental fall. Learn the mechanisms of aging of synthetic fibers of lifelines to establish reliable criteria for removing them from service. Andre Lan, IRSST

12:00PM-1:00PM CLOSING ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of our panel of industry experts from session topics or any other fall protection related questions.
