Binh Tram and Le Nguyen arrived at WITT to study English knowing nothing about the city or the institute that was to be their home for 18-months

The pair are both nuns from Vietnam sent to New Plymouth to study towards a Certificate in General English (ESOL)

They spoke warmly of tutor Nita Hutchison whose encouragement and ability to convey English pronunciation eased the difficulty of learning a new language

Pastoral support from international co-ordinator Lynn Murray also smoothed their transition and

It started with a desire to improve his drawing and animation skills as well as an outlet to ldquovent creativityrdquo But it was video production that really captured Daniel Southornrsquos imagination studying art and design at WITT

ldquoI found that I came to like doing video probably because I like action-packed movies and cartoons That is where my focus went in most of my worksrdquo says the 24-year-old Eltham man

Homestay offers a caring family living environment which can ease the adjustment of living in a new country with different food language and customs

Homestay families welcome international students into their homes and this is an ideal choice for students who want to experience living with a New Zealand family Homestay accommodation is particularly suitable for students who are studying English Language

Homestay accommodation is assessed and monitored by WITT and is ldquoWITT approvedrdquo accommodation

facilities incluDeHomestay accommodation includes three meals each day and includes a private bedroom study facilities bed linen and towels (eg sheets and blankets) and laundry facilities Homestay costs do not include personal items such as toothpaste shampoo and toiletries The costs of telephone calls to overseas countries are the responsibility of the student and arrangements must be made with the host families for all toll calls

Students who wish to live independently can rent an apartment or share a house with others In a flat you can have your own room or share with other students Flats are usually unfurnished Bathroom and kitchen facilities are shared Rent is paid per room with all other expenses (food power telephone and internet) along with cooking and cleaning shared

If you choose this type of accommodation you will need to find your own rental property however we strongly advise you to book the on campus accommodation prior to arrival to allow you time to arrange alternative accommodation
