The D2 Tower is first of all an urban project: it transforms the current ringroad into a urban boulevard where life can be resettled. The D2 Tower is an architectural icon. It complex shape and structuregenerates 3 major frontages with its surrounding: a high tech prow pointedtowards Paris, a thin overlooking figure towards Courbevoie, and a gentle

curved rear abutting the ring road. The D2 Tower is structured like a tree: the bottom galleries and pedestrianlinks act as the roots, grounding the project on the site; the elevators,stairways and servicing areas as the trunk; the floors as the branches; andmost importantly the steel exo-structure as the foliage that holds every entitytogether. At the top of its 170 meters height, its open-air top “Clouds’garden”under the canopy gives a thriving sense of well being at the heart of Paris’sbusiness district. The D2 Tower is the first tower in La Défense to enable 30% of materialeconomy through its sophisticated steel exo-structure. D2 is a symbol ofsustainable development. The D2 Tower is a real innovation in terms of high rise construction. Itscomplex superstructure to gather over a narrow site and busy ring roadimplied creativity, innovation and efficient planning to meet the 3 yearconstruction targeted.


Hotel-Dieu Intercontinental 5* The Hotel-Dieu in Marseille is the former old general hospital of the cityfounded in 1753. The Agence d’Architecture Anthony Bechu, representative ofthe project, has been associated to Tangram Architect’s to lead the reopeningof the site to the city, the reconversion and the valorization of the historicalmonument, as well as the conception of housing to connect the Panierdistrict to the old harbor.The partner’s objective – Cogedim as contracting authority, Axa as investor,Intercontinental as operator and Thed International as hotel advisor - was tobring the monument into the 21st Century by a respectful transformation ofthe spirit of the place, to transform it into a 5-stars hotel. The restoration of the Hotel-Dieu, remarkable heritage of the city of Marseille,has been carefully driven.The architect’s work proceeded in three phases: • A deep historical study to find the ambition of the original architect, Jules

Hardouin-Mansart: remove extensions added over the centuries, andreposition the monument at the hinge between the old Panier district andthe old harbor.

• The restoration of heritage zones: the great stairs, the terrace, thefacades, the roof, galleries and pavilions.

• The reorganization of interior spaces to set up the hotel program: 172rooms, 22 suites, a SPA, 2 restaurants (one has already won a MichelinStar), a cultural center and a seminar center; with a decoration inspiredfrom the city of Marseille and the Mediterranean sea.

The contracting authority has associated volume ABC and Ocre Bleu to thearchitect’s team to realize the interior decoration. The Hotel-Dieu of Marseille is one of the first hotel restructuring in Europethat obtained NF Commercial Buildings - HQE; Standard.


Qingdao International Shipping Center Place: Qingdao, China Year: 2012742,000 sq mLocated in the harbor area of Qingdao, the International Shipping Center iskey to Qingdao’s development strategy and sets a new standard for mixed-use transit-oriented development.The project links via a two-layered landscaped pedestrian promenade thewaterfront to a world-class shopping mall, A grade offices and a five-starhotels.The retail is located in continuity of the public space, interacting with andanimating it, allowing for instance cafe terraces to extend on to the publicspace. There is no limit between the outside and the mall.


Residential Towers in Istanbul Place: Istanbul, TurquiaSurface: 69,000 sq mThe rampart urban growth devouring Istanbul has overwhelmed the parksthat used to extend down the slopes from the city above and along the bankof the Bosphorus, where the agency’s project is located. The aim is to re-green this district and recreate the landscape of the river banks. Threeheavily planted tower blocks positioned down the slope of the site andresting on a base containing a shopping centre with terraces and hanginggardens, free the ground level and allow trees and parks to be planted. Theseavant-garde buildings are designed to be energy-positive.

The world energy consumption is estimated to rise considerably over thenext decades. Being constantly reminded that traditional methods of energyproduction are contributing to serious environmental problems, theGovernments have seen the urgent need of decrease pollution throughrenewable energy generation. In the dynamic evolution of the renewableenergy industry a wave energy industry is emerging. Although the technologyis relatively new the interest is steadily increasing, because an importantfeature of sea waves is their high energy density, which is the highest amongthe renewable energy sources.Faggiolati Pumps S.p.A. has always been involved in the design andmarketing of innovative and environmentally friendly products. Several yearsof research and collaborations with the best Italian universities, has led to thecreation of a new turbine that converts the energy from sea waves, usingsystems called OWC (oscillating water column).The turbine’s particularity is that it always maintains the same direction ofrotation, both during the compression phase-rise of the level of water andduring the depression-lowering of water level in the water column. Thismachine allows to avoid the use of valves which rectify the efflux of air, withobvious advantages in terms of reliability, efficiency and operating costs.Like all the Faggiolati products, the turbine is made with the highest qualitymaterials and components: bronze and stainless steel AISI316L suitable formarine applications, high efficiency generators and inverter, and anappropriate control logic that allows to maximize the energy converted fromthe sea.The results obtained has allowed the creation of an international patent (N.PCT/IB2014/059339 ), which further improves the performance of the turbinefor each energy condition of the sea.
